Strengths

Plugged in, the ceiling is 40 amps
This is the plug-in version of ChargePoint's Home Flex, with a NEMA 14-50 plug on the end of an 18-inch input cable. The guide supplied with this listing prints the circuit table, and for a plug-in installation it stops well short of the headline: a 50-amp circuit gives a 40-amp maximum load and an estimated 30 miles of range per hour, a 40-amp circuit gives 32 amps and 25 miles, and the 30 and 20-amp rows are hardwire only.
ChargePoint's own product page says the same thing in plainer words: the NEMA 14-50 plug configuration works with circuits rated 40 or 50 amps and delivers up to 40 amps, 30 miles of range per hour, while the hardwired configuration works with circuits from 20 to 80 amps and delivers up to 50. The Amazon details field lists 50 amps and a bullet claims up to 45 miles per hour; treat those as the family's maximum rather than this configuration's.
If 40 amps is enough for your car and your overnight window, the plug is the easier install and the charger moves with you. If you want the full 50 amps, you need the hardwired version and a much larger circuit.
The circuit, the breaker and the 125 per cent rule
The guide's central caution is that Home Flex is a continuous load device, so the circuit must be rated for 125 per cent of the maximum load, and that you must consult all applicable codes for breaker and wire sizing. That is why a 40-amp draw needs a 50-amp circuit.
ChargePoint asks for a 240V dedicated circuit with a new, dedicated, non-GFCI two-pole breaker in line with local codes. Its note on GFCI is explicit: if local codes require a GFCI breaker for a plug-in installation, ChargePoint recommends a hardwired installation instead, because Home Flex has charging circuit interrupting device protection and a GFCI breaker in the panel can cause nuisance tripping.
Other stated limits: use 90°C copper conductors only, and the field-wiring terminal is rated to 105°C and takes a maximum of 6 AWG wire. Installation must be by a licensed electrician, and ChargePoint says installing and operating other than as instructed will void the limited warranty. Have an electrician confirm your panel capacity before ordering.
Where the outlet has to be, and how the cable behaves
A plug-in Home Flex will not reach an outlet across the garage. The guide says the NEMA outlet should be 20 to 26 inches from the ground adjacent to the stud where the charging station is mounted, because the input power cable is only 18 inches long, a length ChargePoint attributes to the National Electrical Code for EV chargers. It also asks for the outlet to be installed with the ground facing up.
The station itself is mounted on a stud, with the centre of the mounting location 39 to 43 inches above the finished floor, on a surface that can support the station's weight with the cord hanging from it. Wi-Fi signal must reach the location; the guide lists that as a siting check.
The listing gives the charging cable as 23 feet. Neither maker source we read states a cable length, so measure from the mounting point to your car's charge port and allow slack. The guide asks you to extend the cable fully on completion to remove kinks and tension, and warns not to let the cable be stepped on, tripped over or caught in a closing garage door.
Temperature limits and outdoor use
The guide gives two operating ranges by setting. At 16 to 48 amps the range is -40°F to 122°F; at 50 amps the top drops to 113°F. On the plug version you cannot select 50 amps anyway, so the wider range applies, and the listing's cold-resistant cable claim sits alongside a -40°F lower limit.
Outdoor installation is allowed but conditional. The guide says an outdoor installation requires either an outdoor-rated, weather-resistant electrical outlet or a hardwired installation. ChargePoint's product page goes further and recommends the hardwired configuration for outdoor installation.
Neither maker document we read gives an enclosure NEMA type or IP rating for the station, so if an inspector or a permit needs one, ask ChargePoint directly. The guide also asks for surge protection at the service panel in areas with frequent thunderstorms, and says the charger is not suitable for hazardous locations or installation near flammable, explosive or combustible materials.
The app, and what needs a connection
Setup and control run through the ChargePoint app, which also covers the company's public charging network. Scheduling around off-peak rates, reminders, charging data and smart-home links are all app features rather than controls on the box.
Because of that, Wi-Fi coverage at the charger matters. The guide lists checking for Wi-Fi signal as part of planning the location, and ChargePoint's hardwired listing notes that Wi-Fi is needed for certain functionality and for troubleshooting if connectivity problems arise.
Neither maker source we read describes dynamic load management, sharing a circuit between two units, or any subscription for home charging. ChargePoint's page states UL listing, ENERGY STAR certification and a three-year warranty, and the listing's details field says UL under specification met and three-year parts warranty.
Three years, parts exchange, and the exclusions
ChargePoint's limited warranty runs three years from the date of original purchase against defects in materials or workmanship under normal operating conditions, to the original purchaser, for residential use, non-transferable, valid in the USA and Canada. ChargePoint chooses whether to repair or replace, and the cover includes parts and factory labour but not on-site labour to uninstall or reinstall the station.
Claims run through a Return Material Authorization. You contact support, describe the fault, give the model and serial numbers, proof of purchase and shipping details, then return the station in its original or an equally protective container.
Exclusions include abuse, vandalism, accidents, misuse or negligence, including physical damage from being struck by a vehicle; damage from products not supplied by ChargePoint; installation, alteration, disassembly, modification or relocation not approved in writing by ChargePoint or done by a licensed electrician per the guide; extreme power surges, extreme electromagnetic fields and acts of nature; and use with non-genuine accessories or parts such as a third-party cable or plug. The warranty also lapses if identification markings are removed or if the station is installed anywhere other than a single-family residence.
