EVIQO EVIPOWER J1772 40A NEMA 14-50 Plug-In Level 2 EV Charger
An existing EV-graded NEMA 14-50 outlet on a dedicated 50-amp circuit
The plug-in EVIPOWER delivers 40 amps through a J1772 connector on a 25-foot cable, in an IP66 and NEMA 4 housing rated from -22°F to 131°F. It needs an EV-graded NEMA 14-50 outlet on a dedicated 50-amp circuit, and EVIQO's warranty specifically excludes failures where that receptacle was not used.

Fit and limits
Strengths

Forty amps, and the outlet it has to plug into
This is the plug-in EVIPOWER with a J1772 connector and a NEMA 14-50 plug on a 37-inch input cable. EVIQO's FAQ puts the output at 40 amps, 9.6 kW, and up to 38 miles of range per hour; the listing headline says up to 40 miles per hour. Either way, 40 amps is the ceiling on this version and the internal amperage switch cannot raise it.
The installation guide is precise about the socket. A plug-in EVIPOWER needs an EV-graded NEMA 14-50 outlet on a dedicated 50-amp circuit to deliver 40 amps, because the National Electrical Code 80 per cent rule limits a continuous load to 80 per cent of the circuit's rating. The listing adds the point most buyers need: a 14-50 is the four-prong range or RV outlet, not a dryer outlet.
EVIQO's guide also states, in capitals, not to try to draw 48 amps through a 14-50 receptacle because of fire risk, and notes that 40 amps is the maximum the regulations allow for a NEMA 14-50 plug-in charger. If you want more than 40 amps, you need the hardwired model and a bigger circuit.
The FAQ says no electrician; the installation guide says otherwise
This is the conflict to resolve before you order. EVIQO's FAQ says the plug-in model installs easily with no electrician required, and repeats that no additional wiring or electrician is needed. The installation guide, from the same company and attached to the same listing, tells owners to secure all required permits and approvals under local electrical codes before installing, and notes these may also be needed to keep insurance eligibility.
The two documents also differ on the circuit. The FAQ says the plug-in model requires a 240V NEMA 14-50 outlet with a 40 to 50 amp circuit. The guide's table gives 40 amps of output only on a 50-amp circuit; a 40-amp circuit yields 32 amps. Both can be true if you accept less power, but the FAQ's phrasing could leave a buyer expecting 40 amps from a 40-amp circuit.
There is a warranty consequence too. EVIQO's exclusions name, specifically, failure to use an EV-graded NEMA 14-50 receptacle on the 40-amp and 48-amp plug-in models, along with improper installation or choosing an incorrect location. A licensed electrician should confirm both the circuit capacity and the receptacle grade, whatever the FAQ says about not needing one.
Weather rating, temperatures and where it can be mounted
EVIQO's data sheet gives a NEMA 4 and IP66 protection level, wall-mounted installation, an operating temperature of -22°F to 131°F, storage from -40°F to 167°F, and up to 95 per cent non-condensing humidity. The FAQ repeats that the enclosure is built for outdoor use and describes a reinforced rubberised J1772 connector.
Mounting is constrained by two cable lengths. The output cable is 25 feet, plus or minus three per cent, and the input cable with its 14-50 plug is 37 inches, which the guide says should have a slight curve rather than being stretched. So the charger must be mounted within reach of the existing outlet, and the outlet position should be checked before any bracket goes on the wall.
EVIQO also asks you to mount the charger near the Wi-Fi router for a strong signal and to avoid surfaces that block it, and recommends surge protection at the service panel in regions with frequent thunderstorms, with clean and tight connections at the breaker and busbar. The unit has no rear cable port; the bottom access port is used.
Protections, connector and what is in the box
Rated input is 208 to 240 volts AC at 60 Hz. The data sheet lists input protections as undervoltage, overvoltage, a residual current device of the CCID20 type, surge protection and ground fault protection, with overcurrent, over-temperature and control pilot fault protection on the output. The listing adds UL, ETL, FCC and ENERGY STAR certification as seller claims.
The connector is SAE J1772, so it fits any non-Tesla EV or plug-in hybrid sold in North America directly. EVIQO states that Tesla drivers need a J1772-to-NACS adapter and that one is not included; EVIQO sells NACS versions of the same charger separately.
The carton holds the charger with its attached input cable and 25-foot output cable, the installation guide, wall brackets for the charger and the holster already fitted, two drilling templates, an Allen wrench, anti-theft button-head screws, lag screws with gaskets, wall anchors, the glow-in-the-dark holster, and pin terminal connectors for anyone who later wants to hardwire a plug-in unit.
The app, and the setting that blocks schedules
Control is over 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi through the EVIQO app: start and stop, an amperage setting from 6 to 40 amps on this model, reminders, and energy and cost tracking with weekly and monthly breakdowns. Firmware updates arrive over the air, and the listing notes a side reset button that restarts the charger without opening it or switching off the breaker.
One behaviour catches people out. The charger ships in Plug and Charge mode, which starts a session the moment the car is connected, and EVIQO states that Plug and Charge is mutually exclusive with Schedules and Delayed Start. To charge on an off-peak schedule you have to turn Plug and Charge off first.
Scheduling is built on Electricity Plans you enter in the app, which can be copied into Schedules so sessions land in cheaper tariff windows. The guide also notes that if you precondition your car's cabin, the preconditioning period set on the car must fall inside the charging window set in the app. Nothing in either document describes dynamic load management or sharing a circuit between two chargers.
Three years, with shipping and site labour on you
EVIQO's limited warranty is three years from the original purchase date, to the original purchaser, for residential use in the USA and Canada, non-transferable, and conditional on normal operating conditions plus following the installation guide and EVIQO's website recommendations. EVIQO repairs or replaces at its discretion and may use remanufactured, reconditioned or refurbished parts or stations, with replacements covered for the remainder of the original period.
The warranty covers parts and factory labour but excludes on-site labour for uninstalling or reinstalling the charger, and EVIQO states that shipping the unit to its designated address is not included either. If EVIQO decides a unit is out of warranty, it is returned and repair can be quoted at standard charges at your expense.
The exclusion list covers improper installation, wrong location, unauthorised modification or disassembly, accidents, misuse, vandalism, negligence and vehicle strikes, failure to comply with federal or local law including the NEC, power surges and voltage fluctuations, extreme temperatures, humidity, floods or corrosive substances, unauthorised repairs, normal wear and cosmetic damage, and damage from third-party parts or software not approved by EVIQO in writing. EVIQO's FAQ also claims eligibility for a federal tax credit and various utility rebates; confirm any of that with your own utility and tax adviser rather than with a product sheet.
