A 12-inch saw the manual limits to 10-inch logs

DCCS621P1 is the kit version of DEWALT's DCCS621, a 20V MAX brushless chainsaw with a 12-inch bar. The manual's Intended Use paragraph is unusually specific: the saw is ideal for pruning and for cutting logs up to 10 inches (254 mm) in diameter. That is the number to plan around, not the 12-inch bar length, because a bar is always longer than the wood it can safely take in one pass.

The same paragraph calls it a professional power tool and says supervision is required when inexperienced operators use it. The manual does print felling instructions, but it prefaces them with a warning that felling should only be performed by a trained person. For limbing, bucking on a saw horse and cutting branches down to firewood lengths, this is the job the maker describes.

Three lists describe what is in the box, and they do not match

Amazon's title says battery and charger included, and its details table gives the included components as one DCCS621, one sheath, and one DCB205 battery and charger. DEWALT's own product page has an Includes list that names one DCCS621 chainsaw, one DCB205 battery, one tensioning tool and one bar sheath. That list does not name a charger. Two lines lower in the same page's specifications, Charger Included reads Yes.

So DEWALT's page contradicts itself on the charger, and neither DEWALT list nor Amazon's names which charger model. The manual does not settle it either: it covers the tool only and points you to a separate batteries and chargers manual. If the charger matters to you, check the offer's own included-components field before buying and keep the packaging list until you have opened the box.

The battery is agreed on: a DCB205, which DEWALT's specifications give as 5.0Ah. The tensioning tool DEWALT lists is the wrench the manual calls part 17, with a screwdriver end for the tension screw, and it stows in a slot on the bottom of the saw.

The oiler is automatic; emptying the tank is not

The manual is clear that this saw has an auto oiling system that keeps the chain and bar constantly lubricated, so there is no primer bulb to press before each cut. An oil level indicator on the body shows how much is left, and the instruction is to remove the battery and refill once the level drops below a quarter full. The manual does not print the reservoir's capacity, and neither does the product page, so we cannot tell you how many tankfuls a job needs.

Two maintenance lines are easy to miss. The manual says to always empty the oil tank when you finish cutting, and again before storing the unit. It also asks for high-quality biodegradable bar and chain oil, recommends vegetable-based oil when pruning living trees because mineral oils may harm them, and says never to use dirty, used or contaminated oil.

To confirm the system is working, the manual tells you to switch off periodically and check the oil level indicator rather than assuming. It also says not to operate the saw without oil at all.

Chain, bar, tension and sharpening numbers

Tension is adjusted with the supplied wrench: loosen the bar lock nut, turn the chain tension screw on the sprocket cover, then tighten the bar lock nut to 6 ft-lbs (8 Nm). The manual defines correct tension as the chain snapping back after being pulled 1/8 inch (3 mm) away from the bar with light finger pressure, with no sag underneath, and says to check tension before each use and frequently during the first two hours because a new chain stretches.

The replacement parts are named twice in the manual: bar DWZCSB12, service part NA599492, and chain DWO1DT612, service part N580237. DEWALT's accessory page for the DWZCSB12 bar gives 3/8-inch low profile pitch and 0.043-inch gauge, and names DWO1DT612 as the matching chain. Neither the manual nor that page prints a drive-link count, so count links on the old chain before ordering a third-party replacement. The DCCS621P1 page also cross-sells a DWO1DTX612 premium .325-inch chain, which is a different pitch from the bar page's 3/8-inch low profile; use the manual's part number.

For sharpening, the manual asks for a 5/32-inch (4 mm) file with a holder or guide, a 30-degree top-plate angle, and rakers filed about .025 inch below the cutter tips. It says a chain should be sharpened no more than four times, because each sharpening costs some of the low-kickback behaviour.

Rain, height and the chain brake you are told to test

The Intended Use section says in capitals not to use the saw under wet conditions or near flammable liquids or gases, and the tool's own symbol table includes a do-not-leave-in-rain symbol. That is a harder line than many buyers expect from an outdoor tool, and it is the maker's, not ours. The general warnings add the usual power-tool rule about not exposing the tool to rain or wet conditions.

The saw does have a chain brake, listed as part 3, the chain brake and front hand guard in one. The manual asks you to test it before every use: set the saw on a flat surface with the chain clear of the ground, run it, roll your left hand forward so the back of your hand pushes the guard toward the workpiece, and the chain should stop immediately. If it does not, the instruction is to stop using the tool and take it to an authorised service centre.

Operating limits in the same section: do not cut above chest height, never hold the saw by the front hand guard, never use a cross-handed grip, and do not work from a tree, ladder, rooftop or other unstable surface. The manual also notes the saw will shut off if you push too hard into a cut, and that you must release the trigger before it will restart.

Warranty, weight figures and what nobody publishes

The manual's warranty page is headed Three-Year Limited Warranty but prints no terms; it sends you to dewalt.com/support/warranty or to customer service for a written copy, and states the warranty does not apply to products sold in Latin America. DEWALT's product page states the same three years and adds one year free service and 90 days satisfaction guaranteed. We did not open the online warranty terms page, so treat the conditions, exclusions and claim route as unread.

Weight is reported twice and differently: Amazon's table says 12.7 pounds, DEWALT's specifications say 12.96 pounds as assembled product weight. Neither source says whether that figure includes the battery, the bar and chain, or oil, so it is not safe to quote a carrying weight from either. Length and height agree closely (about 26.1 to 26.3 inches long, 10.04 inches high) while width differs slightly, 9.13 inches on Amazon against 9.33 inches on DEWALT's page.

Amazon's copy says the saw delivers up to 100 cuts per charge. DEWALT's own page for this kit does not repeat that number anywhere we read, and no source states the wood species, diameter or battery state behind it, so treat it as an unqualified marketing claim rather than a runtime spec. The listing's table also carries a 0.7 hp field, which has no counterpart on DEWALT's page. Finally, the saw is Tool Connect chip ready, but the chip itself is a separate purchase and is not in either includes list.
