A one-handed-size pruning saw sold as a bare tool
The 2527-20 is Milwaukee's M12 FUEL HATCHET with a 6-inch bar. Amazon's details table lists the included components as Bare Tool, and Milwaukee's page says the product includes the saw, one Oregon 6-inch bar and chain, one scabbard and one scrench. No battery and no charger are in either list, and the manual's specifications name M12 as both the battery type and the charger type. Budget for an M12 pack and charger unless you already own the system.
Bar and chain oil is not included either. The manual's notice says to fill the oil reservoir with chain oil, not provided, before starting the saw. So a first outing needs three purchases beyond the box: battery, charger and a bottle of bar and chain oil.
Milwaukee's specification table gives the tool at 4.1 pounds and 16.56 inches long, which match Amazon's weight and length fields. The marketing line on the same page says the tool with battery weighs less than 5 pounds, which tells you the 4.1 pounds is the bare figure.
Two different cut-capacity numbers, from the same maker
Milwaukee's product page overview says the saw has the power to cut 3-inch hardwoods. The manual's specification table gives Cutting Capacity as 5.5 inches. Those are not the same claim: one is about what the motor will pull through dense wood, the other about the geometry of a 6-inch bar. Milwaukee does not reconcile them anywhere we read, so plan around the smaller figure for hardwood and treat 5.5 inches as an upper physical limit in soft green wood.
The manual adds a hard warning next to it: making a cut with a diameter greater than the saw's cutting capacity requires advanced techniques and should only be performed by properly trained professionals. It also says never to cut above shoulder height, and that if the limbs to be pruned are above shoulder height you should hire a professional.
Other performance figures from the manual: 2,650 RPM and a chain speed of 984 feet per minute, which is the 5 m/s on the product page in other units. Maximum torque on Milwaukee's table is 1.7 in-lbs.
The oiler is automatic and fixed; the tank is 1.7 ounces
This saw oils itself. Milwaukee's FAQ says the chain oiling system is set at an optimised flow rate, so there is no adjustment screw, and it accepts any standard bar and chain oil. The translucent reservoir lets you see the level without opening the cap.
The capacity is the number worth knowing: the manual's specification table lists the chain oil tank at 1.7 ounces. That is a small tank, and the manual's routine reflects it. It says to fill before starting, to refill whenever the tank is less than a quarter full, to check the oil level frequently, and to fill the reservoir after each full battery discharge. Running without oil, it warns, will damage the bar and chain.
The manual also gives a way to confirm oil is reaching the chain: with a full reservoir, point the bar tip at a light-coloured surface and run the saw for about thirty seconds, and an oil line should appear. If it does not, clean the bar, check the tip sprocket turns freely, then contact a Milwaukee service facility. For storage, empty the tank to stop leaks and lightly oil the chain against rust. Vegetable-based oil is recommended when pruning living trees, and waste, automotive and very thick oils are ruled out.
Chain size, replacement parts and tensioning
The chain is 3/8-inch low profile pitch, 0.043-inch gauge, with 28 links, and the manual calls it a low kickback type. Milwaukee's table labels that count Drive Links while the manual's table labels it Chain Teeth, which is worth knowing if you are matching a chain from a third-party chart. Milwaukee's replacement part numbers are 49-16-2732 for the chain and 49-16-2733 for the bar.
Milwaukee's FAQ says outright that the saw is optimised for a 6-inch bar and chain and that it does not recommend fitting a different size. There is no longer-bar upgrade path offered.
Tensioning uses the scrench: take the guide bar nuts off, turn the tensioning screw, and retighten. Correct tension is the chain snapping back after being pulled 1/8 inch (3 mm) from the bar, with no visible sag. The manual asks you to remove the battery and check tension frequently during the first two hours, because a new chain stretches. Sharpening uses an 11/64-inch (4.5 mm) round file and holder, sold separately as 49-16-2885.
The parts list shows no chain brake, and rain is ruled out
The manual's functional description numbers fourteen parts: trigger handle, variable speed trigger, lock-off button, fuel battery indicator, body grip, knuckle guard, chain cover, saw chain, guide bar, scabbard, chain tensioning screw, guide bar nut, oil cap and oil reservoir. No chain brake appears in that list, and none appears in Milwaukee's specification table or feature list. What the manual does say is that the chain should slow to a stop when you release the trigger, and that if it keeps turning after release you should have the saw serviced.
The symbol page includes do not expose to rain or use in damp locations, keep bystanders at least 50 feet away during use, and both use two-handed and use extreme caution during one-handed operations. The manual permits one-handed use only for steadying or guiding a branch, and lists conditions for it: free hand clear of the chain and cutting path, never above shoulder height, no crossed arms, always cutting away from yourself.
The recommended ambient operating temperature in the specification table is 0 to 125 degrees Fahrenheit. Maintenance is light but not zero: after every few hours of use, take off the drive cover, bar and chain, brush them clean and check the bar's oiling hole is clear, and flip the bar top to bottom when you fit a sharp chain.
The listing's spec table is unreliable; the warranty is three years with conditions
Several fields in Amazon's details table do not describe this tool. It lists Voltage 220 where the manual says 12 volts DC, Number of Teeth 6 where the chain has 28, Blade Material Metal and Surface Recommendation Metal where the manual says to cut wood only and never metal, plastic or masonry, and Blade Shape Rectangular for a saw chain. The listing also carries a single bullet that just repeats its own title and no product description. Use Milwaukee's page and the manual for every figure; the only listing fields that match the maker are the model number, the 6-inch bar, the 4.1-pound weight, the 16.56-inch length and Bare Tool.
The manual's USA and Canada warranty covers the original purchaser only, for three years from the date of purchase, against defects in material and workmanship, with repair or replacement at Milwaukee's determination. Return is to a Milwaukee factory service centre or a participating authorised service station, freight prepaid and insured, with a copy of the proof of purchase. Milwaukee's product page states the same three years.
The exclusions matter for a saw. The warranty does not cover repairs attempted by anyone other than Milwaukee authorised personnel, misuse, alterations, abuse, normal wear and tear, lack of maintenance or accidents, and it names chains among the parts whose normal wear is not covered. Cordless battery packs and reconditioned product are excluded from this warranty and carry separate ones. Because coverage runs to the original purchaser with proof of purchase, check the seller and condition of the offer you select.
