A compact 4K camera with a touchscreen and a magnetic mount
The X310 is Garmin's 4K edition in its compact dash cam line; Garmin's product page describes it as having the same features as the X110, which it lists with a 140-degree field of view, a 2.4-inch display and a built-in polarizer. The listing adds a touchscreen and names part 010-02860-00. The box holds the camera, a low-profile magnetic mount, a power cable, a dual-USB adapter and documentation.
The manual describes the included windshield mount as adhesive, a long-term installation that can be hard to remove, and recommends fitting it at 70°F to 100°F; in the cold, clear and warm the glass with the defroster first. The listing's box list calls the mount magnetic; we report both. Choose a spot cleared by the wipers and away from tinted glass.
Buy an exFAT card up to 512GB
No card is in the listing's box list. Garmin's specification is microSDHC or microSDXC from 8 to 512GB, Class 10 or faster, using the exFAT file system; the camera can format the card from Settings, Camera, Format Card. The manual suggests formatting at least every six months to extend card life.
Turn the camera off before removing the card. By default it records whenever powered and overwrites the oldest unsaved video when the card fills. An incident sensor saves 15 seconds before and after an event, stamped with time, date and location. A Promptly Delete privacy option removes unsaved video older than three minutes but disables Travelapse.
Parking Guard can run on the camera's own battery
Garmin's manual lists a Run on Battery option that lets Parking Guard use the camera battery when no external power is connected, and warns that touching the camera with it enabled may wake it unexpectedly. The manual also lists a charging temperature range of 32°F to 140°F. Other Parking Guard settings are auto start delay, impact sensitivity, monitoring time and record-before-incident.
With external power still connected when the car is turned off, the camera enables Parking Guard after five seconds. For parked recording from car power, the manual's appendix covers Garmin's OBD II Constant Power Cable, with a 10-minute, 24-hour or always-on timer and 12V low-battery protection, and a hardwired parking mode cable. Both are sold separately.
Driver alerts use the camera and GPS
The manual describes a forward collision warning that uses GPS speed and activates above 40 mph, may not detect vehicles closer than 16 feet or farther than 130 feet, and can be limited by rain, fog, glare or darkness. There is also a lane departure warning, a go alert when stopped traffic moves, and speed and red light camera alerts.
The manual says the forward collision warning's accuracy depends on the camera placement settings, so complete that step in setup. Travelapse is mentioned in the manual as a feature that the Promptly Delete option disables, so the two cannot be used together.
What needs a paid Vault subscription
The manual says remote Wi-Fi network features and Vault features require a paid subscription. With Vault, saved videos upload automatically over Wi-Fi, can be shared by secure link, and Live View is available remotely; Garmin notes Vault is not available in all countries. Without it, the listing says you can view and download files only near the camera.
Parking Guard phone notifications need Vault, Wi-Fi, constant power and the Garmin Drive app, according to the listing. Viewing videos in the app stops recording and alerts. The radio covers 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands, and pairing with a phone is done within about three metres.
Power, heat and warranty notes
Use the included vehicle power adapter rather than a car USB port, which the manual says may not provide enough power; a data-capable cable can also put the camera into USB mass storage mode, where it cannot record. Input is 5V at 1A. The operating range is -4°F to 140°F.
Holding the power button for 12 seconds restarts a frozen camera, and Reset in System settings restores defaults without deleting videos. The listing's warranty field says one year limited warranty. Garmin's full warranty terms are in the Important Safety and Product Information guide in the box, which we did not read.
