What this is: a permanently installed 10 kW standby system

Generac variant G0073210 is its 10 kW air-cooled home standby generator bundled with a transfer switch, with built-in cellular connectivity for the Mobile Link app. The spec sheet lists the base model G007321-0 with UPC 696471104295, the same UPC as this listing. It runs on natural gas or propane from the home's fuel supply and starts automatically when utility power fails.

It is not a plug-in portable. The owner's manual says only qualified service personnel may install, operate and maintain it, the Field Pro app is required for installation, and the unit must be registered and configured before it will run in AUTO. The warranty applies only to permanently wired and mounted units, so budget for professional installation and a gas line.

10 kW on propane, 9 kW on natural gas

Generac's spec sheet rates the 10 kW model at 10 kW maximum on propane and 9 kW on natural gas, with 42 or 38 amps at 240V and a 45-amp main line breaker. Amazon's title and table give 10,000 watts without separating the fuels. The owner's manual adds that natural gas ratings typically run 10 to 20 percent below the propane rating, depending on the gas's energy content.

The product page's own specification list shows 10 kW on both fuels and a 60-amp main breaker, which conflicts with the spec sheet and owner's manual. Size your loads to the spec sheet's 9 kW figure if you are on natural gas, and have the installer confirm the breaker rating on the unit's data decal.

The transfer switch: 100 amps, 16 spaces

The spec sheet pairs the 10 kW model with a 100-amp limited-circuit transfer switch: 16 spaces for up to 24 circuits, breakers not included, in a NEMA 3R aluminum enclosure rated for indoor or outdoor mounting. Amazon's title matches this with a 16-circuit transfer switch. The spec sheet's 200-amp service-entrance switch is listed for the 14 and 18 kW bundles only.

Generac lists load managers and an HVAC energy manager as separate accessories for managing large loads on a standby system. Discuss circuit selection with the installer, since the 16-space switch and the 9 to 10 kW output together set the limits on what can run at the same time during an outage.

Engine, weight and a spec list that disagrees with itself

The spec sheet and owner's manual list a single-cylinder 459cc G-Force 400 Series engine with about 1.4 quarts of oil including the filter, and a unit weight of 344 pounds in the spec sheet or 334 pounds without battery in the owner's manual. The product page's specification list instead shows a G-Force 800 engine and 2.5 quarts of oil, which the other two documents assign to the 14 and 18 kW models.

Amazon lists 384 pounds and slightly different dimensions from Generac's 46.4 by 26.3 by 30.7 inches. Treat the spec sheet and owner's manual as the reference for engine and oil, and ask the installer to confirm from the unit decal. Noise is given as 61 dB(A) at 23 feet under normal load and 49 dB(A) in Quiet-Test low-speed exercise, measured from the front.

Battery, placement and maintenance

The spec sheet and owner's manual say the starting battery is not included: it must be a 12V AGM Powersport Group BTX30L with at least 400 CCA, charged by the built-in smart charger, and external chargers should not be used. The product page lists a different BTX20L 310CCA battery; follow the owner's manual. Cold-weather heaters are listed as separate accessories.

The spec sheet allows installation as close as 18 inches to a structure, away from doors, windows and fresh air intakes and per local codes; the manual keeps mechanical air intakes at least 10 feet away. Maintenance is an oil and filter change after the first 25 hours, then oil, filter and battery check every two years or 200 hours, adding air filter and spark plug every four years or 400 hours. Below 40°F or in continuous operation above 85°F, oil and filter move to every year or 100 hours.

Warranty: five years, but not five years of everything

Amazon and the product page describe a 5-year limited warranty. Generac's written statement covers five years or 2,000 hours, whichever comes first, starting at successful start-up or online activation. Years one and two include parts, labor and limited travel; year three is parts only; years four and five cover only major components, meaning the engine short block and the alternator rotor and stator.

The unit must be registered with proof of purchase, and all warranty work must be done by an Independent Authorized Service Dealer. Proof of required maintenance must be available, travel is capped at 100 miles and three hours, and normal maintenance, installation and start-up costs are excluded. Emissions components have a separate warranty that we did not read.
