Greenworks compares the saw with a gas engine in two ways on the same page: its key features say 20 percent more torque and faster cutting than a 42cc gas saw, while the product intro and the listing say a 40cc gas saw. These are marketing claims we have not measured.

Runtime, charging and weight

The listing says up to 110 cuts of 4x4 wood on a single charge with the included 4.0Ah battery. Greenworks' product page says up to 140 cuts of 4x4 wood on a single charge with the same 4.0Ah 60V battery. We found no cut count in the manual.

Greenworks gives a 40-minute recharge with the included charger. The manual's technical data names battery model LB604 and other BAC series packs and charger model CAC801 and other CAC series chargers.

Weight without battery is 9.5 pounds on the product page and 9.7 pounds (4.4 kg) in the manual. The listing's 9.46 pound figure does not say whether the battery is included.

Chain brake and intended use

The product page's specification panel lists the chain brake as mechanical, and the product intro and listing description call it inertia-activated. The two descriptions come from the same maker page and neither explains the other. The manual has its own chain brake section, which this page does not summarise; read it before first use.

The manual states that the saw is designed only to cut wood, for outdoor domestic use by adults, and is not to be used for professional tree services. Its warranty section applies only to units used for personal use and not hired or rented for commercial use.

Oil, chain care and storage

The manual says the saw leaves the factory without bar and chain oil and that a full tank lasts approximately 20 to 40 minutes. It gives the chain oil capacity as 200 ml, calls for oil made for chains and chain oilers, and warns against dirty or used oil.

The manual says chain tension is set with a side adjustment screw and that the chain cover does not need to come off to do it. It asks you to check tension before each use, specifies a 5/32 inch (4 mm) round file for sharpening, and sets replacement points for a worn chain and guide bar.

Troubleshooting includes an overheating protection; the manual says to let the saw rest in a cool, dry place for 5 to 10 minutes before continuing. For storage it asks you to remove the battery, drain residual oil, clean the saw and keep it away from children and corrosive agents.

Warranty terms

Greenworks' product page lists a 4 Year Limited Tool and Battery Warranty for this kit. The linked manual gives the original purchaser with proof of purchase four years against defects in materials, parts or workmanship, with repair or replacement at Greenworks' discretion.

The manual's warranty applies to personal use only and carries a list of exclusions. Read that list in the manual before relying on the cover, especially if the saw will ever be used for paid work.
