The listing gives model number GCS80421 and manufacturer part number 2000002. The operator manual attached to the listing prints GCS80421, 2000002 and CSB401 on its cover. Greenworks' own product page for SKU 2000002 labels the model as GCS80420, so the model code differs by one digit between the manufacturer's page and the manual; ask Greenworks which code applies if it matters to you.
Greenworks sells SKU 2000002 as the 80V 18-inch Cordless Battery Chainsaw with a 2.0 Ah battery and charger. Its What's Included list is the chainsaw, a scabbard, a spanner wrench, one 2.0 Ah battery and a battery charger. The listing's included components field says battery, charger and manual.
The manual's own packing list names only the chainsaw, scabbard, manual and wrench, although its exploded parts view lists a charger and a battery. The two Greenworks documents differ here, so check the box contents on arrival.
Bar, chain and motor figures
The manual's technical data give an 80 V DC rating, an 18-inch (458 mm) guide bar, 3/8-inch pitch, 0.05-inch gauge and 62 drive links. It names the replacement chain as 91P062X and the guide bar as 180SDEA041. Greenworks' product page gives the same pitch, gauge and link count.
Chain speed is 34.5 feet per second in the manual and 35 feet per second on the product page. The product page describes a brushless motor, tool-less tensioning, an automatic oiler, a translucent oil tank, steel bucking spikes, an electronic chain brake, a thumb lock and push-button start.
Greenworks compares the saw to a 42cc gas engine on its product page, and the listing repeats that. Those comparisons and the page's 85 dB noise figure are Greenworks' marketing claims, and we have not measured them.
Cut counts and weight: the numbers that disagree
The runtime claims differ. The listing says up to 150 cuts on 4x4 lumber per charge. Greenworks' product page says up to 110 cuts through 4 by 4 inch pressure-treated lumber on one 2.0 Ah battery charge. We found no cut count in the manual pages we read.
Weight also varies by source. The manual lists 11 pounds (5 kg) without the battery pack, and the product page lists 14.2 pounds with battery. The listing's overview shows an item weight of 2.05 pounds, which does not match either maker figure.
The product page gives a 30-minute battery recharge time for the included pack. The manual's technical data lists battery model 2901302 and other BAB series packs and charger model 2901402 and other CAB series chargers as compatible.
Who Greenworks says it is for
The listing's first bullet calls the 18-inch bar and chain perfect for professional users, and the listing's description calls the 80V system commercial grade. The manual is narrower: it says the saw is for outdoor, domestic use by adults, is only designed to cut wood, and is not to be used for professional tree services.
The warranty terms follow the manual. The manual's warranty is valid only for units used for personal use and not hired or rented for commercial use, and the separate warranty sheet gives 90 days for commercial use. If you plan paid work, read those terms before buying.
The manual has full safety warnings and technique pages for felling, limbing and bucking. We do not repeat them here; read them in the manual before first use, and follow its instructions rather than a summary.
Oil, chain care and storage
The manual says the saw leaves the factory without bar and chain oil, so buy bar and chain oil before first use. It says a full tank lasts approximately 20 to 40 minutes, calls for oil made only for chains and chain oilers, and warns against dirty or used oil. The manual gives the tank as 6 ounces (180 ml).
It asks you to check chain tension before each use and notes a new chain stretches after first use. For sharpening it specifies a 5/32 inch (4 mm) round file, recommends a service centre for sharpening, and sets replacement points for a worn chain and bar.
Before storage the manual says to remove the battery, drain residual oil, clean the saw, and keep it away from children and corrosive agents such as garden chemicals and de-icing salts. It gives a storage and operating range of 32 to 113 degrees Fahrenheit, with charging between 39 and 104 degrees.
Warranty terms across three documents
The manual gives the original purchaser with proof of purchase four years against defects in materials, parts or workmanship, with repair or replacement at Greenworks' discretion. It excludes misuse, commercial use, neglect, improper maintenance, normal wear and routine items such as lubricants and sharpening, and makes transport charges the buyer's responsibility.
The warranty sheet attached to the listing also states four years (90 days commercial) from the shipping date, with repair, replacement or refund, proof of purchase and a return authorization. It gives lithium-ion batteries a two-year warranty. Greenworks' product page instead describes a 4 Year Limited Tool and Battery Warranty.
Because the battery term differs between the warranty sheet and the product page, confirm the battery coverage with Greenworks before relying on it. The manual gives a warranty helpline, and the sheet notes batteries must be charged according to the operator's manual for the warranty to be valid.
