The basic S2: solid tires, rear springs, short range

This listing is the base Hiboy S2, model and part number S2, in dark black. Hiboy's page and the manual's S2 table agree on the essentials: a 350-watt rated motor with 500 watts peak, a 36-volt battery, a top speed of 19 miles per hour, a maximum range of 17 miles, about a 15 percent climb, an IPX4 rating and a 220-pound maximum load. Neither source gives the battery's watt-hours.

The tires are 8.5-inch honeycomb solid tires, and Hiboy's page lists rear suspension; neither source lists front suspension. Braking is an electronic brake plus a disc brake. Hiboy's box list is the scooter, a charger, four screws, an Allen wrench and the manual, matching the listing's included components.

The spec sheets disagree on several numbers

Hiboy's page lists a 36V 7.5Ah battery, a 3 to 5 hour charge, a recommended age of 16 to 60 and a size of 45.7 by 17.0 by 47.2 inches. The manual's S2 table gives 7.8 Ah, 5 to 6 hours, ages 16 to 50 and 44.1 by 16.7 by 47.8 inches. The listing's charge field says 5 hours and its bullet puts top speed at 18 miles per hour while its title says 19.

The most important conflict is load. The manual's English safety section says the maximum load is 265 pounds, while its own S2 specification table, its Spanish section, Hiboy's page and the listing all say 220 pounds. Plan around 220 pounds unless Hiboy confirms otherwise in writing. Weight is consistent at about 35.5 pounds across the listing, the manual and Hiboy's page.

Range and cold weather

The 17-mile range is Hiboy's maximum figure. The footnote that gives its test conditions is printed as an image in the manual and could not be read, and Hiboy's page does not state conditions.

Cold has a stated effect: the manual says battery performance drops significantly between 32 and minus 4 degrees Fahrenheit and range may fall by half or more, recovering as it warms. Hiboy's page describes two modes, Drive at 13 miles per hour to save battery and Sport at 18.6 miles per hour. The motor only engages after you push off, and the throttle does nothing from a standstill.

IPX4 means light rain only

The manual says the scooter can withstand light rain and small splashes but is not designed for heavy rain, severe weather or submersion, and that water damage is not covered under warranty. It also asks you to avoid snowy, rainy, muddy or icy conditions, and to store it under shelter rather than out in the rain, since the manual says it is not waterproof.

For cleaning, the manual says not to use a high-pressure water spray or solvents on the body. It also says the scooter is not intended for use above 2,000 metres or in temperatures below 14 or above 113 degrees Fahrenheit, and it is not designed for off-road use or stunts.

Charging and storage rules that affect the warranty

The manual says to charge only between 41 and 113 degrees Fahrenheit, not immediately after riding, and not for more than 12 hours. It asks you to recharge when the battery drops below 20 percent, and the charger it lists is a 42-volt, 1.5-amp unit.

For storage over 30 days, the manual says keep the battery at 30 to 50 percent in a cool, dry place and recharge every 60 days. It states that battery damage from long storage without charging is irreversible and not covered by the warranty.

Hiboy's 12-month warranty and how claims work

Hiboy's warranty page describes a one-year warranty for the original owner against manufacturing defects. It says claims on purchases through authorised retailers such as Amazon are handled by Hiboy, need proof of purchase plus photos or video, and must be made within one year. For repair service, the page says Hiboy provides free replacement parts only.

Exclusions on that page include normal battery capacity fade, human-caused damage, extreme weather, fire, accidents and unauthorised modifications. Shipping damage must be reported within seven days of delivery. The listing bullet says the S2 passed UL 2272 testing at SGS, and Hiboy's page says it is UL 2272 certified; ask Hiboy for the certificate if that matters to you.
