Husqvarna 445S 18-Inch 50.2cc Gas Chainsaw

Homeowners who want an 18-inch gas saw that can step up to a 20-inch bar

The 445S has a 50.2 cc, 3 hp X-Torq engine and ships with an 18-inch sprocket-nose bar and SP33G chain, with a recommended range up to 20 inches. Husqvarna lists 11 pounds before bar and chain. The listing's article number matches the maker's page, and the five-year warranty needs a fuel purchase plus online registration.

Fit and limits

Strengths

  • Listing article number matches Husqvarna's product page
  • Accepts bars up to 20 inches, beyond the supplied 18-inch
  • Fuel indicator, flip-up cap and retained bar nut

Caveats

  • Five-year warranty needs fuel bought with the saw plus online registration
  • Amazon's 14.3 lb weight does not match the maker's 11 lb
  • No operator's manual attached to the listing

The exact configuration this listing sells

Amazon lists this Husqvarna 445S under model and part number 970709038. Husqvarna's product page shows the same article as 970 70 90-38, described as an 18-inch, .325-pitch X-Cut, .050-gauge configuration, and says it includes a sprocket-nose bar, SP33G chain and mounted bucking spikes.

Husqvarna's own descriptions differ in emphasis. The product text calls the 445S a landowner saw for felling, cutting, limbing and firewood, while its FAQ says it is engineered for residential users cutting firewood, pruning and doing storm cleanup. Neither description mentions paid or commercial work, which matters for the warranty terms below.

Engine, chain and bar figures

Husqvarna's table lists 50.2 cubic centimetres and 3 horsepower net under ISO 7293, which its description gives as 2.2 kilowatts. Maximum power comes at 9,000 rpm, idle is 2,800 rpm, the clutch engages around 4,150 rpm, maximum torque is 2.6 newton-metres at 6,300 rpm and chain speed at maximum power is 56.8 feet per second.

The recommended bar range is 13 to 20 inches, so the supplied 18-inch bar is not the longest this saw takes. Chain is .325-inch pitch and .050-inch gauge on a Spur 7 sprocket, and the FAQ names SP33G X-Cut as the chain it uses. Use those figures when you buy a replacement chain or a 20-inch bar.

The listing bullets round the engine to 50 cc and 3 hp; the maker's table is the more precise reference. Oiling is by an automatic pump feeding a 0.55 US pint chain-oil tank.

Weight: two different numbers

Husqvarna gives 11 pounds excluding cutting equipment, so the bar, chain, fuel and bar oil all come on top of that. Amazon's item details say 14.3 pounds and do not explain what that figure covers. No source we read gives a working weight with the 18-inch bar and chain fitted and the tanks filled.

The maker also lists noise and vibration. Sound pressure at the operator's ear is 106 dB(A), and the guaranteed sound power level is 116 dB(A). Equivalent vibration is 4.7 metres per second squared at the front handle and 4.6 at the rear, and both the listing and Husqvarna name LowVib among the saw's features.

Features, and getting it ready to run

Husqvarna lists Smart Start, an air purge primer, Air Injection, a quick-release air filter, a hybrid plastic-and-metal crankcase, a forged three-piece crankshaft, a transparent fuel indicator, a flip-up fuel cap, a snap-lock cylinder cover, a retained bar nut, felling marks, side-mounted chain tensioning and an auto-return stop switch.

The FAQ says that if the saw arrives unassembled you remove a plastic spacer near the bar stud, install the bar and chain, and check and fill the bar oil, and then points to the operator's manual for detailed instructions and safety information. No manual is attached to this listing, so use the one in the box for every operating and safety step, including kickback.

Getting the longer warranty

Husqvarna's FAQ gives the 445S a two-year limited warranty for residential, non-income-producing use, and says you can extend it to up to five years by buying at least 96 fluid ounces of Husqvarna pre-mixed fuel and oil at the same time as the saw and registering the product online. The listing mentions the fuel purchase but leaves out registration.

The 2026 warranty document on the listing does not mention the extension. Keep a receipt that shows the saw and fuel bought together, register the saw, and keep proof of purchase for the whole warranty period, which the FAQ says Husqvarna may ask for before doing warranty work.

What voids or limits cover

The FAQ says wear parts such as air filters, spark plugs and chains are not covered, and that commercial, agricultural or rental use, skipped maintenance and non-approved fuels such as E15 or E85 void the warranty. The 2026 document adds stale fuel, starting fluids, pressure washing, unauthorised repairs and mismatched bar, chain or sprocket pitch or gauge.

The two maker documents differ on paid work. The FAQ says commercial use voids the warranty, while the 2026 chart shows 90 days of professional coverage on its row for consumer and residential 100 and 400 series handheld petrol products; the chart names series rather than models. Ask a Husqvarna dealer before relying on either for commercial use.

Service is through an authorised Husqvarna servicing dealer, transport costs are yours, and the warranty document asks for proof of purchase with the date, model and serial number. It also says continued use after a failure is not covered, so stop using the saw once a fault appears.
