Husqvarna 450X Rancher 20-Inch 50.2cc Gas Chainsaw with AutoTune

Homeowners who want a 20-inch gas saw with automatic engine adjustment

The 450X Rancher pairs a 50.2 cc, 3.4 hp X-Torq engine with AutoTune, which Husqvarna says adjusts engine settings automatically. It ships with a 20-inch bar and SP33G chain and weighs 11.2 pounds before bar and chain. Two maker spec entries need checking with a dealer, and the five-year warranty needs qualifying fuel plus registration.

Fit and limits

Strengths

Caveats

  • Maker table lists 96,000 rpm and a 55 US pint oil tank; query both

  • Fuel quantity for the warranty extension is not stated on the page

Which 450X Rancher this is

Amazon lists this saw as model and part number 970702450. Husqvarna's product page shows article 970 70 24-50, described as a 20-inch, .325-pitch X-Cut, .050-gauge sprocket-nose configuration, and says it includes a 20-inch bar, SP33G chain and mounted bucking spikes. The listing and the maker's page therefore match.

The same page also lists a second article, 970 70 24-20, described as a 20-inch .325 Smart Start version for the US and Canada, with an identical specification column. Check the number on the carton or listing if the difference between the two matters to you, since the page does not explain it.

AutoTune is the headline feature

Husqvarna's FAQ calls the 450X Rancher the first 400-series saw with AutoTune, which it says automatically adjusts engine settings for optimal performance in any environment. The listing describes easier starting whether the engine is cold or warm, and the FAQ credits a simple starting interface together with AutoTune.

The listing's 40 percent easier starting and 30 percent faster cutting figures are Husqvarna's own comparisons, with footnotes saying they are measured against an earlier Rancher model and, for starting, based on the number of steps needed for a cold start. We did not test either claim, and neither tells you how the saw will cut your wood.

Engine and chain figures, and two entries to query

The specification table gives 50.2 cubic centimetres and 3.4 horsepower net under ISO 7293, maximum torque of 2.7 newton-metres at 7,500 rpm, idle at 2,800 rpm, clutch engagement around 4,150 rpm and a chain speed at maximum power of 60.7 feet per second. The listing repeats 50.2 cc and 3.4 hp.

Two entries in the maker's table need checking before you rely on them. It lists the maximum power speed as 96,000 rpm and the oil tank volume as 55 US pint. Neither figure appears anywhere else in the sources we read, so ask a Husqvarna dealer for the correct maximum power speed and chain-oil tank size before relying on either.

Chain is .325-inch pitch and .050-inch gauge on a Spur 7 sprocket, and the FAQ names SP33G X-Cut chain. The recommended bar range is 13 to 20 inches, so the supplied 20-inch bar is already the longest Husqvarna recommends for this saw.

Weight, noise and vibration

Husqvarna gives 11.2 pounds excluding cutting equipment. Amazon's item details say 14.9 pounds without explaining what that includes. Neither covers fuel and bar oil, and the maker figure leaves out the 20-inch bar and chain, so expect to carry more than 11.2 pounds.

The maker lists 106 dB(A) sound pressure at the operator's ear, a guaranteed sound power level of 116 dB(A), and vibration of 3.9 metres per second squared at the front handle and 4.1 at the rear. Husqvarna lists LowVib and an ergonomic rear handle among the saw's features.

Other features and first-use steps

Husqvarna lists a hybrid plastic-and-metal crankcase, Air Injection, a quick-release air filter, an air purge primer, a retained bar nut, a flip-up fuel cap, coloured felling marks, an automatic oil pump, side-mounted chain tensioning and an inertia-activated chain brake. The listing adds that the crankcase design is patented and aimed at engine cooling.

The FAQ says that if the saw arrives unassembled you remove a plastic spacer near the bar stud, fit the bar and chain, and check and fill the bar oil, then refer to the operator's manual for detailed instructions and safety information. No manual is attached to this listing; use the one in the box for all operating and kickback guidance.

Warranty conditions

Husqvarna's FAQ gives the 450X Rancher a two-year limited warranty for residential use, extendable to up to five years if you buy qualifying Husqvarna pre-mixed fuel and oil and register the product online. This page does not state the qualifying fuel quantity, and the Amazon listing does not mention the extension, so confirm the terms before you buy.

The FAQ says commercial or rental use is not covered under the residential warranty. The 2026 warranty document on the listing gives 90 days of professional coverage on its row for consumer and residential 100 and 400 series handheld petrol products, but names series rather than models, so ask a dealer about paid work.

The 2026 document excludes wear parts such as air filters and spark plugs, stale fuel, E15 or E85 fuel, starting fluids, pressure washing, mismatched bar or chain pitch and gauge, skipped manual maintenance and continued use after a failure. Service is through an authorised Husqvarna dealer with proof of purchase, and transport costs are yours.
