Levoit Vital 200S-P Smart Air Purifier (LAP-V201S-WUS), White

A room around 388 sq ft with 15 inches clear in front of it

Levoit's Vital 200S-P is a three-stage purifier with a washable pre-filter and a combined main and carbon filter replaced yearly. The manual gives CADR of 250 smoke, 254 dust and 289 pollen, and the maker's own design room is 388 sq ft at 4.8 air changes an hour, not the 1875 in the title. It runs from an external 24 V adapter and needs 15 inches of clear space in front.

Fit and limits

Strengths

  • Maker publishes full three-figure CADR and defines its room sizes by air changes per hour
  • Washable pre-filter that is never replaced, plus pet, smoke and toxin carbon filter options
  • Sensor, modes and limits are documented, including that the dust sensor cannot detect gas

Caveats

  • The 1875 sq ft headline is a one-air-change figure; the manual's own limit is 388 sq ft
  • The HEPA-grade claim is qualified to Sleep Mode, and the listing's 0.1-micron figure exceeds both maker documents
  • Two-year warranty covers the original buyer from authorised sellers only, and excludes filters

One machine, three names, and an external power brick

The product is the Vital 200S-P. Its model number is LAP-V201S-WUS in white and LAP-V201S-KUS in black, both covered by the same manual. The Amazon details table adds a third label, listing the part number simply as 'Vital 200S', so when you buy filters check the Vital 200S-P name rather than the part-number field. The box holds the purifier, a washable pre-filter and a combined Main / activated carbon filter both already installed, a manual, a quick start guide and an AC power adapter.

This unit does not plug straight into the wall. It runs on 24 V DC at 2.5 A through the supplied external adapter, which takes 100-240 V at 50/60 Hz. The manual says to use only the adapter that came with it, and that a damaged adapter cord must be replaced by the maker rather than swapped for a generic one. Rated power is 51 W in the manual and 50 W on the maker's page. The manual also warns against running it on a dimmer or other solid-state speed control.

The square-footage claim: 1875, 1862, 388 or 380

The listing title says up to 1875 ft². The maker's own product page says 1862 ft² at one air change per hour, and 388 ft² at 4.8 air changes per hour. The listing's own details table agrees with the 388 figure and adds the intermediate steps: 938 ft² at two air changes an hour, 625 ft² at three, 469 ft² at four. Levoit's comparison chart, supplied on this same listing, gives the Vital 200S an 'ideal room size' of 380 ft². Nobody explains the 13-square-foot gap between 1862 and 1875.

The most useful number is the one in the manual's own troubleshooting section: under 'poor air purification quality' it says that if the room is larger than 388 ft² / 36 m², air purification will take longer. That is the maker telling you where its own design point sits. Size to 388 ft² if you want the air turned over roughly every twelve minutes, treat 938 ft² as a slow but real coverage, and read 1862 or 1875 as one pass an hour rather than as a room this unit is built for.

CADR is given three ways, and the HEPA wording has a condition

The manual's specification table gives CADR in CFM as 250 for smoke, 254 for dust and 289 for pollen, and the Amazon details table repeats all three. The maker's own product page shortens this to a single figure, CADR: 250 CFM. The listing bullets attribute the set to AHAM, the Association of Home Appliance Manufacturers, and describe the unit as AHAM Verifide. We did not check the AHAM directory, so treat the seal as a listing claim you can verify yourself before buying on that basis. The manual separately states the unit is ENERGY STAR certified and explains that the rating is a ratio of smoke CADR to watts consumed.

Read the filtration wording carefully, because the maker qualifies it. The manual says the Main filter traps at least 99.97% of airborne particles 0.3 microns in size. The maker's page repeats that, then adds a separate line: the Levoit Original Filter is HEPA-grade while operating in Sleep Mode, as tested by an independent lab. The Amazon table instead says 99.97% for 0.1-0.3 micron particles and gives a particle retention size of 0.1 micron, which is a stronger claim than either maker document supports. Use the manual's 0.3-micron figure.

Clearance, placement and what the sensor cannot see

Setup is short but has one hard rule: allow at least 15 inches (38 cm) of clearance in front of the unit, away from curtains or anything else that blocks airflow. The troubleshooting section widens that to keeping the front, sides and top clear, since air is drawn in at the front and the U-shaped side inlet and leaves through the top. The unit is 15.6 inches deep, 8.5 wide and 19.8 high at 13.2 pounds, and is meant to sit on a flat, stable surface such as the floor. Operating range is 14-104°F and 85% relative humidity or below; the manual warns that above that the filter surface can go mouldy.

Air quality is read by an infrared dust sensor Levoit calls AirSight, shown as a coloured ring: blue, green, orange, red. The manual is direct about its blind spot — the sensor detects airborne particles but cannot detect gas, so odours and VOCs will not move the ring. It also says an ultrasonic humidifier running nearby will make the ring read red because the sensor counts the mist. Clean the sensor lens with a damp then dry cotton swab about every two months. Auto mode picks between sleep, low, medium and high but never uses turbo; turbo is a manual choice, and the manual suggests 15-20 minutes on turbo before dropping to a lower speed when you are chasing a specific problem like smoke.

What it costs you to keep running

There are two maintenance jobs on two clocks. The washable pre-filter is cleaned every two to four weeks with a soft brush or vacuum, or rinsed with water and mild detergent, then air-dried completely; it is never replaced. The combined Main / activated carbon filter is replaced every 12 months and must never be washed. The Check Filter light is a reminder rather than a countdown: the manual says it comes on based on how much the unit has run, so it can light early in a dusty home or late in an occasional one, and it must be reset by holding the sleep-mode button for three seconds after a change.

Levoit sells a standard Vital 200S-P replacement filter plus three specialised carbon versions — Pet Allergy, Toxin Absorber and Smoke Remover — so the odour half of the filter is a real choice. The maker's own filter listings describe the filter as lasting 6-12 months, which is shorter at the low end than the manual's 12 months. The manual tells you to use only official Levoit filters and warns generally against replacement parts the maker has not recommended. Two other running notes: do not add essential oils or run a diffuser near it, and if you store it away, wrap both unit and filter in plastic in a dry place.

Where the sources disagree, and what the warranty covers

Four figures do not line up across sources. Coverage: 1875 ft² on the listing, 1862 ft² on the maker page, 388 ft² in the manual's troubleshooting and 380 ft² on the maker's own comparison chart. Power: 51 W in the manual, 50 W on the maker page. Noise: the manual says 27-56 dB, the maker's specification panel says 23-54 dB, the maker's summary text says as low as 23 dB and the Amazon table reduces it to a flat 27 dB; none of the sources states a distance or test condition, so all of them are maker claims rather than measurements you can compare across brands. Particle size: 0.3 microns in both maker documents versus 0.1 micron in the Amazon table. The listing also carries a 'CARB Certified' field and a stray '1 12V batteries required' line, neither of which appears in the manual or on the maker's page. This is a three-stage mechanical and carbon purifier: no maker document read here describes an ioniser, a plasma stage or a UV lamp, and none states an ozone figure.

The warranty is a two-year limited warranty from Arovast Corporation, running from the date of original purchase, and Levoit's page shows the same two-year term. It covers the original consumer purchaser only and is not transferable, needs proof of purchase and evidence of the defect, and does not extend to products bought from unauthorised dealers or sellers. Filters are explicitly excluded as normal wear. Also excluded: commercial or rental use, use outside the manual's instructions, damage from unauthorised repair, and units whose model or serial number has been altered or made illegible. Registration at the maker's warranty site is offered but not required to claim. The maker's page also carries a California Proposition 65 warning. Check the seller and condition of the offer you select before relying on the warranty.
