The Outdoor Cam 2K Battery is a compact 2560 by 1440 camera with a 140 by 85 degree view, 6x Enhanced Zoom, colour night vision, a siren and two-way audio, running on one swappable Quick Release battery. It connects on 2.4GHz Wi-Fi only. Saved video history needs a Ring Protect plan, and 24/7 recording is not available while it runs on battery.

A small battery camera, also sold as Outdoor Cam (2nd Gen)

The Outdoor Cam 2K is Ring's compact outdoor camera, and this listing is the Battery version. Ring's tech specs describe one battery slot holding a rechargeable Quick Release Battery Pack, and say it is compatible with the Quick Release Ultra Battery Pack sold separately; the listing adds that the Ultra pack gives up to 67 percent more battery capacity.

Ring's FAQ says the Outdoor Cam (2nd Gen) and the Outdoor Cam 2K are the same product under a new name. The generation is listed as Outdoor Cam 2K (2nd Gen), a 2026 release, so help articles and accessories may use either name; check for the 2K or 2nd Gen label before buying add-ons.

Ring and the listing agree on the box: the camera with its mount, one Quick Release Battery Pack, a Micro USB charging cable for the pack, installation hardware, a setup guide, a security sticker and a warranty and safety document. The camera measures 2.76 by 2.76 by 5.4 inches including the stand.

Picture, night view and the upload it needs

Ring's FAQ says Retinal 2K means 2560 by 1440 pixels. The field of view is 140 degrees horizontal and 85 degrees vertical, with up to 6x Enhanced Zoom in the app. Ring describes night vision that keeps true colour in dim light such as streetlights or porch lights and switches to black and white in complete darkness.

Ring's specs and FAQ give 5 Mbps as the upload speed for this camera, and the FAQ says it uses adaptive bit rate streaming. The listing adds that video quality may vary with internet bandwidth and with device temperature.

There is two-way talk with noise cancellation and a remote-activated siren. Ring lists motion sensing as Advanced Motion Detection with customisable motion zones, and the listing describes motion detection alerts to your phone.

2.4GHz Wi-Fi only

Ring lists the connection as Wi-Fi 4 on a single-band 2.4GHz link. There is no 5GHz option, so the camera needs a 2.4GHz Wi-Fi signal at the mounting spot.

Ring's page says the camera can be mounted inside or out, and powered by plugging in, by battery or by sun with an accessory; the listing gives a 5 to 10 minute install. Ring's install article for this Battery version covers wall and ceiling mounting on a flat, level surface with 5.5 inches, or 14 centimetres, of space in every direction.

For solar, Ring's page offers a Small Solar Panel with USB-C as a separate accessory; it is not in this box. For plug-in use, Ring sells a separate Plug-In version of the camera with a 12.5 W USB-C adapter in its box, and an Indoor/Outdoor Power Adapter as an accessory. The install article lists a Phillips screwdriver and, for stucco, brick or concrete, an optional 3/16 inch masonry bit.

What works without a Ring plan, and what does not

Ring's FAQ says a Ring Protect subscription is not required to use the camera. Without one you still get real-time notifications, can answer them to see, hear and speak in real time, and can view the image last captured on your dashboard.

The same answer says that without a plan you cannot review any videos or images you missed, and cannot save or share videos or photos. The listing makes the same point: rewatching events and intelligent alerts need a compatible Ring Protect plan, sold separately. Neither source lists a memory card slot. A free 30-day Ring Protect trial is included, per Ring's page.

Round-the-clock recording is more limited. Ring's FAQ says 24/7 Recording works only when the camera is plugged in, needs a Ring Protect subscription plus a paid Continuous Recording add-on, and cannot be turned on while the camera runs on battery or solar power. No power adapter is listed in this Battery version's box.

Weather limits

Ring gives operating conditions of minus 4 to 122 degrees Fahrenheit, or minus 20 to 50 Celsius, and describes the build as weather resistant. Neither Ring's tech specs nor the listing publish an IP rating.

Both sources add that the camera may temporarily turn off when exposed to direct sunlight in extreme heat conditions. Keep that note in mind if the only practical mounting spot is in full sun.

Ring's install article says the security screw on the battery cover creates a seal to prevent damage from rain or humidity, and to always tighten it when replacing the battery. Charging uses the Micro USB cable supplied for the Quick Release Battery Pack.

Warranty terms from Ring

Ring's tech specs and the listing both state a one-year limited warranty. Ring's warranty page says that for devices bought new or Certified Refurbished from Ring, Amazon or authorized resellers, Ring warrants against defects in materials and workmanship under ordinary consumer use for one year from the date of original retail purchase.

It excludes devices sold as Used, including used devices sold as Warehouse Deals, and does not cover accident, misuse, neglect, fire, alteration, third-party repair or parts, or other external causes. Ring may repair, replace or refund at its option, and a repair or replacement is covered for the rest of the original term or 90 days, whichever is longer.

Check that the listing's condition is New before ordering, since a used unit falls outside this warranty. Warranty service starts through Ring Community Support.
