Segway's F3 commuter, model 051701U
The listing's model and part number, 051701U, is the model number in Segway's F3 specification table, and the option inspected was 'F3 -44 Miles'. Segway rates the F3 at 450 watts nominal and 1000 watts peak, with a 46.8-volt, 477 watt-hour battery, a top speed of about 20 miles per hour, a maximum payload of 265 pounds and an IPX6 rating. The listing says the box holds the scooter, a charger and accessories.
The ride hardware is a front hydraulic suspension fork, rear elastomer suspension, 10-inch tubeless self-sealing tires, a front disc brake and an electronic rear brake, on what the listing calls a magnesium alloy frame. Segway gives the footboard as 7.09 by 20.08 inches and adds a dedicated front rim lock point at the base of the stem for a chain or U-lock.
The 44-mile claim is at 9 mph; at 20 mph it is 25
Segway's feature text and the listing say 44 miles in Eco mode at 9 miles per hour, and Segway's own specification table rounds the same figure to about 43.5 miles. In Sport mode at 20 miles per hour Segway says about 25 miles, so the headline figure depends entirely on riding slowly.
Segway also sells an external 468 watt-hour battery separately, which it says lifts the figures to about 43.5 miles at 20 miles per hour and 81 miles at 9 miles per hour. The listing bullet calls it a 460 Wh battery. Segway notes that the external battery stops working below 23 degrees Fahrenheit while the scooter itself keeps working down to 14 degrees, and resumes on its own when it warms up.
Weight, folded size and the charge time
Segway gives a net weight of about 38.6 pounds; the listing's details table says 42 pounds, and neither explains the gap. Folded, Segway lists about 45.4 by 22.9 by 24.1 inches, the same length and width as the unfolded 45.4 by 22.9 by 49.7 inches, so folding reduces only the height and the folded scooter is still nearly 23 inches wide.
Segway gives a single charge time of about eight hours with the standard charger, and sells a 48-volt fast charger separately. The F3 powers off automatically when folded, according to Segway's auto-unlock description. Climbing is rated at about 20 percent.
Tires, water and cold-weather storage
Segway says the self-sealing tires seal punctures up to 4 millimetres, but also asks you to repair punctures promptly, to check tire pressure and condition every three months, and to keep pressure between 42 and 48 psi. So the sealant does not remove tire checks from the owner's list; Segway's instructions keep them there every three months.
IPX6 is described on Segway's page as protection against high-pressure water streams. The same footnote says not to charge the scooter wet or in a moist environment, and that immersion in liquid and the resulting damage are not covered by the warranty. Segway says to store it no colder than 14 degrees Fahrenheit.
Certification wording and a warranty document for another model
The listing claims UL 2271 and UL 2272. Segway's store page states the F3 was tested and certified by TÜV Rheinland for the UL 2272 standard, and its product page says the F3 series received the UL Micromobility Performance Verification Mark. Neither Segway page we read mentions UL 2271, so ask Segway directly if UL 2271 matters to you.
The warranty PDF attached to this listing is Segway's North American limited warranty for the MAX G3, not the F3. Its component table, two years on the frame, motor and controller and one year on the battery, charger and lights, matches the listing's warranty field, but we could not read an F3-specific warranty to confirm it. Ask Segway for the F3's terms and buy from an authorised dealer.
