Buyers who need a TT-30R and a 240V L14-30R outlet on one inverter

WEN's DF680iX makes 5,100 running watts on gasoline or 4,500 on propane, with electric start, CO Watchdog shutoff, a TT-30R RV outlet and a 120/240V L14-30R outlet. A selector switch decides which outlets are live. Expect frequent early oil changes, and treat the EV-charging and bonded-neutral claims as product-page only.

What you get: a 224cc dual-fuel inverter with a 240V outlet

The DF680iX is WEN's 6,800-watt dual-fuel inverter generator with electric start and a recoil starter as backup. The manual's packing list includes a funnel, screwdriver, LPG regulator hose, 25.4 fluid ounces of engine oil, a spark plug socket and a wrench. Its specification table lists a 12V, 7Ah lead-acid battery.

The panel carries two 120V NEMA 5-20R household outlets, a 120V TT-30R RV outlet, a 120/240V 30A L14-30R twist-lock outlet, a 12V DC outlet and two USB ports rated 1A and 2.1A. The L14-30R is the outlet that can deliver 240 volts, and only when the voltage selector on the panel is set for it.

Watts per fuel and the Eco-Mode limit

WEN's manual rates it at 5,100 running and 6,800 starting watts on gasoline, and 4,500 running and 6,000 starting watts on propane. Rated current is 42.5 amps gas or 37.5 amps propane at 120V, and 21.25 or 18.75 amps at 240V. The manual recommends keeping continuous load at or below 4,590 watts on gas or 4,050 watts on propane.

Eco-Mode lets the engine slow down to match the load. The manual says to keep it engaged below 3,000 watts and not to engage it above 3,000 watts, because the engine must run at full speed for larger loads. WEN's product page states harmonic distortion under 0.3 percent at no load and under 1.2 percent at full load; the manual we read does not list a THD figure.

The voltage selector decides which outlets are live

The manual's control-panel page says that with the selector at 120V, the 120V outlets are active and the L14-30R supplies 120V. At 240V, the parallel outlets are active and the L14-30R supplies 240V. Read that page before planning to run RV and 240V loads together, and check the outlet each device uses against its own amp rating.

Parallel operation needs the WEN GNA240i kit, sold separately, and the manual says the parallel feature works at 240V only. WEN's product page says two 240V WEN inverter generators can be linked with that kit. We did not read the kit's own instructions, so follow them for connection steps.

Claims that appear only on the product page, and one weight conflict

The listing and WEN's product page describe a bonded-neutral 240V configuration that provides low-power Level 2 charging for electric vehicles. We searched every page of the manual and found no mention of neutral bonding or vehicle charging. Treat EV charging as a product-page claim, and confirm with WEN and your vehicle maker before relying on it.

WEN's page gives a decibel figure at quarter load but states no measuring distance, so we do not repeat it as a comparable number. The manual lists the generator at 94.8 pounds, while the Amazon listing gives 99.2 pounds. Neither source explains the difference. Amazon's technical table also lists 4,500 running watts, which matches the propane rating rather than gasoline. Neither WEN's page nor the manual mentions CARB or 50-state status, so confirm with WEN if that matters where you live.

Tank, run time and a front-loaded oil-change schedule

The manual lists a 2.9-gallon tank and half-load run time of 6.1 hours on gasoline or 9 hours on propane; WEN's page ties the propane figure to a 20-pound tank. It ships without oil. Crankcase capacity is 26.37 fluid ounces, while the included bottle is 25.4 ounces, and the manual lists 30W, 10W-30 or synthetic 5W-30 by temperature.

Break-in asks for eight hours at or below half load, an oil change after those eight hours, another at 25 hours, then every 50 hours. The schedule also calls for air filter service every three months or 50 hours and draining the carburetor after each use and before storage. The manual says failure to maintain the generator properly will void the warranty.

Outdoor placement, CO Watchdog and warranty terms

The manual says to use it only outside, far from windows, doors and vents, never in homes, garages, crawl spaces or partly enclosed areas, and to keep at least five feet from buildings or other equipment. It also says to keep it out of rain. The CO Watchdog shuts the engine off if CO builds up and is not a substitute for an indoor CO alarm.

The manual says the CO sensor lasts about seven years and a yellow light can mean it has reached end of life. WEN's home-use warranty runs three years or 500 hours, whichever comes first, with parts and labor for one year and parts only for years two and three. Commercial use gets ninety days, and purchases must come from a direct WEN vendor.
