A 457cc dual fuel inverter with remote start and a CO sensor

The iGen12000DFc is Westinghouse's 12,000-watt peak, gasoline and propane inverter generator, part number 11023. Amazon's model field, the maker's specification table and the manual cover all name iGen12000DFc, and the UPC on Amazon matches the maker page. It uses a 457cc four-stroke OHV engine, a 7.9-gallon gasoline tank and a THD rating of 3 percent or less.

One caution on the maker's page: its descriptive copy and headline talk about the iGen12000TFc tri fuel model and list natural gas ratings. The specification table on the same page, the Amazon listing and the manual all describe this model as dual fuel, gasoline and propane only. Rely on those, and do not plan to run this unit on natural gas.

Running watts on each fuel and the runtime conditions

Westinghouse rates it at 12,000 peak and 9,000 running watts on gasoline, and 11,000 peak and 8,100 running watts on propane, with the manual and spec table agreeing. If you plan to run on propane, size your loads against 8,100 running watts, not the 12,000 in the listing title. The manual also warns output drops about 3.5 percent for each 1,000 feet of altitude.

Maker runtimes are 19 hours at 25 percent load and 11 hours at 50 percent on gasoline, and 9 hours at 25 percent and 5 hours at 50 percent on a 20-pound propane tank. Amazon's details table shows a 17-hour runtime and a 9.8-gallon tank, which do not match the maker's 19 hours and 7.9 gallons; the manual lists 7.92 gallons.

Outlets: 14-50R, L14-30R, a GFCI duplex and a smart switch port

The spec table lists one 120V 5-20R GFCI duplex, one 120/240V 14-50R, one 120/240V L14-30R and an ST Switch connection, and describes the unit as transfer switch, interlock kit and RV ready. The manual's panel diagram labels the smart switch connector as not included. No TT-30R is listed, so an RV with a 30-amp TT-30 plug needs an adapter that is not in the documents' included lists.

The spec table gives the grounding system as bonded neutral. The manual says not to power a building's electrical system without an approved transfer switch, and the warranty excludes prime power use, meaning use as the main or continuous power source where utility power is unavailable or not used. It is meant for backup, not off-grid living.

Parallel use, Eco Mode and starting

The spec table says it can be paralleled with 240V Westinghouse inverter models using 240V parallel cables sold separately; the manual names compatible cable part 507096 and warns an incompatible generator can cause low voltage. It also says not to use Eco Mode during parallel operation or with inductive loads, and to switch Eco Mode off for large surge loads such as air conditioners or pumps.

Starting is by remote key fob, push button or recoil, with an automatic choke. The manual says the battery ships fully charged and a trickle charger is included to keep it topped up from a wall outlet. After a CO shutdown, a remote-start unit must be restarted from the panel button, not the fob.

Weight, clearance and the CO sensor

The maker lists a dry weight of 189 pounds and Amazon lists 187.4, with dimensions of 30.2 by 25.2 by 26.6 inches. Wheels, axles, mounting stabilizers and the handle are assembled by the owner, and the manual says to get help lifting it and never to lift it by the handle. The noise claim is as low as 64 dBA, with no distance or load stated.

The manual requires at least five feet of clearance on all sides including overhead while running and in storage, a flat level surface, and outdoor use far from occupied buildings with the exhaust pointed away. Its CO sensor shuts the engine off when CO builds up, flashes red after a CO shutoff and yellow for a sensor fault, and does not replace indoor CO alarms. The spec table marks it EPA compliant yes and CARB compliant no.

Oil, break-in and the warranty's labor limit

The unit ships without oil in the crankcase, but a bottle of 10W-30 is included; capacity is 1.1 liters. Check the oil before each use or every 8 hours. For break-in, stay under half the rated running watts for the first five hours and do not use full synthetic oil until the first scheduled change. The manual's schedule adds monthly oil changes under heavy load or high temperatures, and recommends valve adjustment at an approved service center, which is not covered by warranty.

The warranty runs three years for the original purchaser with proof of purchase: parts and labor for one year and replacement parts only for years two and three under consumer use. The maker page lists one year for commercial use. The owner pays shipping to and from a service provider, the starting battery is excluded, and using third-party parts or unaffiliated repair shops does not void it.
