Replacing an existing wired floodlight where a wide 180-degree view is wanted

A hardwired 2.5K floodlight camera with a 180-degree diagonal view and three dimmable heads totalling 3,000 lumens. It needs a junction box and a neutral wire, records 24/7 to a microSD card you supply, and connects on 2.4 or 5 GHz Wi-Fi. Wyze's chart, read 2026-09-29, shows its vision-AI light control without a plan note.

Before you buy: a junction box and a neutral wire

Wyze's installation guide says you must have an existing junction box and a neutral wire to use this floodlight, and that installing it takes about 30 minutes where self-installation is legal; Wyze's product page says under 20 minutes instead. It has no battery; Wyze's specs list hardwired 110 to 120 volt AC power.

The guide tells you to check local laws and building codes first, since your area may require a permit and professional installation. If there is no junction box, it says your wiring is not compatible and to contact a licensed electrician; it also suggests an electrician whenever you are unsure about wiring.

Wyze recommends mounting the floodlight at least 10 feet off the ground, and notes a ladder may be needed. For a spot with an outdoor outlet instead of a junction box, Wyze's product page offers a separate Floodlight Plug-In Mount as an add-on; it is not in this box.

What is in the box

Wyze's installation guide lists the floodlight, a mounting accessory kit with six bracket screws (two each of #6, #8 and #10), a ground wire screw, a long floodlight screw, a rubber stopper, the mounting bracket, two wire nuts, a hook, a screwdriver and a quick start guide.

A microSD card is not included. Wyze's FAQ says so directly, and its specs say the slot takes cards up to 256GB. The wiring steps themselves are in Wyze's installation guide and the app, which walk through them with the power shut off at the panel.

Camera, lights and alerts

Wyze gives 2.5K QHD video at 2560 by 1440, 20 frames per second by day and 15 at night, and a 180-degree diagonal field of view; the product page adds 170 degrees horizontal and 95 vertical. Night vision uses a starlight sensor for colour plus 12 infrared lights at 850nm.

Three adjustable heads give 3,000 lumens in total, 1,000 per head, at a fixed 5000K colour temperature. They are dimmable. Wyze's FAQ says the motion-activated light and ambient light mode both default to a sunset-to-sunrise schedule, with ambient light at 10% brightness.

Motion is detected by onboard vision AI rather than a PIR sensor, up to 30 feet away by Wyze's FAQ. Wyze's page says the AI turns the lights on only for objects you select, like people and vehicles, and sends notifications to your phone. The siren is 105 dB measured at 4 inches, and Motion Warning plays a recorded-voice clip every 10 seconds when a person is detected.

Where Cam Plus fits (Wyze pages read 2026-09-29)

Wyze's floodlight comparison chart, a support article last updated in November 2025 according to Wyze's help center, lists Vision AI Light Control as Yes and Motion Warning as Yes for the Pro, with no plan condition. Its supported services are Cam Plus and Wyze Web View; the tech specs list Cam Plus and Cam Protect.

Wyze's Cam Plus page describes the plan as adding cloud video recordings saved for 14 days, person, pet, vehicle and package detection, and web viewing of live streams and past events. The Pro's product page and tech specs read here do not say which of those the Pro provides without a plan.

Setup may end with a prompt for a Cam Plus free trial, according to Wyze's setup guide. If person or package alerts on your phone are the point of buying, ask Wyze what the Pro does without Cam Plus before you rely on it.

Wi-Fi, storage and sharing

The Pro connects to 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz Wi-Fi (802.11 b/g/n) and sets up over Bluetooth Low Energy. Wyze's setup guide recommends the 2.4 GHz network if the floodlight is far from the router or behind several walls, and its installation guide includes a signal-strength check in the app.

Local storage takes 8, 16 or 32GB cards formatted FAT32, or cards up to 256GB formatted exFAT, for 24/7 recording. Wyze's product page says a 256GB card holds up to 30 days. Phones need Android 9.0 or iOS 15.0 or later, and it works with Alexa, Google Assistant and IFTTT.

Wyze's sharing guide says a floodlight can be shared with up to 250 users. Shared users can watch live and event video, use two-way audio and switch the light and siren, but they cannot view the microSD card footage.

Weather, size and warranty

Wyze rates it IP65 for indoor and outdoor use, with an operating range of -4 to 140 degrees Fahrenheit (-20 to 60 Celsius). It measures 10.2 by 9.1 by 7.8 inches and weighs 2.9 pounds, with a polycarbonate body and a glass and plastic lens.

Wyze's tech specs list a 1-year warranty. Wyze's policy gives one year from purchase through an authorized retailer, and 18 months only for purchases made directly from Wyze on or after January 1, 2026. The warranty is for the original purchaser and is not transferable.

The policy excludes products bought from unauthorized retailers, products without valid proof of purchase, products where repairs were attempted, and damage from use not in line with the quick start guide or Wyze's other instructions. Keep the dated receipt for any claim.

Common questions

Can I install the Wyze Cam Floodlight Pro without a junction box?

Not as supplied. Wyze's installation guide says you need an existing junction box and a neutral wire, and to call a licensed electrician if there is no junction box. Wyze sells a separate Floodlight Plug-In Mount for an outlet, which is not in this box.

Does it work on 5 GHz Wi-Fi?

Yes. Wyze lists 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz support and Bluetooth setup. Its setup guide suggests choosing 2.4 GHz if the floodlight is far from the router or behind several walls.

What size microSD card does it take?

Wyze's specs list 8, 16 or 32GB cards in FAT32, or up to 256GB in exFAT. No card is included.
