Replacing a wired floodlight on a 2.4 GHz network, with local card recording

A hardwired 2K floodlight camera with a 160-degree view, two dimmable panels totalling 2,800 lumens and a 270-degree PIR motion sensor. It needs a junction box and a neutral wire, and connects on 2.4 GHz only. Wyze's pages, read 2026-09-29, tie AI light control, person and package detection and cloud backup to Cam Plus.

Fit and limits

Strengths

  • 2K camera, 2,800 lumens and a 270-degree PIR sensor that switches the light on, listed with no plan note
  • Wyze lists 24/7 microSD recording, siren, two-way audio and ambient light with no plan note
  • Access-point setup avoids scanning a QR code at the top of a ladder

Caveats

  • Wyze's pages (read 2026-09-29) tie AI light control, person and package detection and cloud backup to Cam Plus
  • Needs a junction box and a neutral wire, and no dimmer or timer on the circuit
  • 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi only, and Wyze's own pages disagree on the card limit wording

Wiring first: junction box, neutral wire, 120 volts

Wyze's installation guide says you must have an existing junction box and a neutral wire to use the Floodlight v2, and to shut off power at the panel before starting. Wyze's app flow asks you to check that the junction box is at least 10 feet off the ground.

The quick start guide heads its wiring steps with "WARNING: Risk of electrical shock!" It also says to verify a 120 V AC 60 Hz supply, not to use a dimmer switch or timer, and to apply caulk around the mounting surface on all sides for waterproofing. Outside North America, it says installation and wiring must be done by a licensed electrician; everywhere else, follow the wiring steps in Wyze's guide and app rather than a summary here.

Wyze tells buyers to check local laws and building codes, since a permit and professional installation may be required, and to ask a licensed electrician if there is no junction box. For an outdoor outlet instead, Wyze sells a Floodlight Plug-In Mount separately; it is not in this box.

What is in the box, and what you supply

Wyze lists the assembled floodlight, a mounting bracket, bracket screws in #6, #8 and #10 sizes (two of each in the quick start guide), a ground wire screw, a floodlight screw, a rubber stopper, two wire nuts, a hook and the quick start guide.

Wyze's installation guide names a Phillips screwdriver and a ladder as required tools, and neither box list includes a screwdriver. A microSD card is sold separately. The quick start guide suggests leaving the ladder in place until pairing and aiming are finished.

Camera, lights and motion sensing

Wyze gives 2K video at 2304 by 1296, 20 frames per second by day and 15 at night, colour night vision and a 160-degree diagonal view. Wyze's comparison chart lists six 850nm infrared lights. Two dimmable LED panels give 2,800 lumens in total at a fixed 5000K.

Motion is sensed by a 270-degree PIR sensor that switches the light on. Wyze's quick start guide says that, mounted 10 feet up, it detects motion up to 30 feet away, and that the motion sensor should be angled parallel to the ground.

Wyze lists a 105 dB siren, two-way audio, an ambient light mode with scheduled low-level light, dusk-to-dawn automation and custom detection zones. The product page states these without a plan condition; the next section covers the features Wyze does tie to a plan.

Which features need Cam Plus (Wyze pages read 2026-09-29)

Wyze's floodlight comparison chart, a support article last updated in November 2025 according to Wyze's help center, lists Vision AI Light Control for the v2 as With Cam Plus Subscription, and Motion Warning the same way. Its supported services for the v2 are Cam Plus and Wyze Web View.

The v2 product page says to add AI alerts and cloud backup with Cam Plus, and to get Person and Package Detection and more with Cam Plus, with unlimited cloud video storage. It also says person alerts on Alexa and Google devices come with Cam Plus.

Wyze's pages disagree in places. The product page's comparison table and its FAQ show Motion Warning on the v2 with no plan note, while the support chart says it needs Cam Plus, and the page's opening summary lists AI-Powered Light Control without the plan note its own table gives. Wyze's Cam Plus page lists cloud recordings saved for 14 days and person, pet, vehicle and package detection, where the v2 page says unlimited cloud video storage. Confirm these features and the storage terms with Wyze if they matter.

Wi-Fi, storage and setup

The v2 connects to 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi only (802.11 b/g/n); Wyze's FAQ says it does not support 5 GHz. Setup uses a Wi-Fi access point from the floodlight instead of a QR code, and the app asks for location permission for the dusk-to-dawn setting.

Wyze's specs say local storage supports microSD cards up to 256GB in exFAT format, for 24/7 recording. One FAQ answer instead says up to 265 GB in exFAT and FAT32 formats, so buy a card of 256GB or smaller and ask Wyze about FAT32 if that matters.

Phones need Android 9.0 or iOS 15.0 or later, and it works with Alexa, Google Assistant and IFTTT. Wyze's troubleshooting steps for failed setup, including a factory reset from the setup button, are on Wyze's product page and support site.

Weather, size, power draw and warranty

Wyze rates the v2 IP65 with an operating range of -4 to 140 degrees Fahrenheit (-20 to 60 Celsius). It measures 9.5 by 7.7 by 7.0 inches and weighs 2.76 pounds, with a polycarbonate body. The quick start guide gives the input as hardwired 120V, 50/60Hz, 0.61A.

The quick start guide gives a one-year limited warranty. Wyze's policy gives one year from purchase through an authorized retailer, and 18 months only for purchases made directly from Wyze on or after January 1, 2026, for the original purchaser and not transferable.

The policy excludes products from unauthorized retailers, products without valid proof of purchase, products where repairs were attempted and damage from use not in line with the quick start guide, so keep the dated receipt for any claim.

Common questions

Does the Wyze Cam Floodlight v2 work on 5 GHz Wi-Fi?

No. Wyze's FAQ says it only supports 2.4 GHz networks, and the quick start guide lists 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi.

Which Floodlight v2 features need Cam Plus?

As read on 2026-09-29, Wyze's support comparison chart lists Vision AI Light Control and Motion Warning for the v2 as With Cam Plus Subscription, and the product page ties person and package detection, AI alerts and cloud backup to Cam Plus. The product page's own table shows Motion Warning without that note, so confirm with Wyze.

Can I use a dimmer switch with it?

No. Wyze's quick start guide says not to use a dimmer switch or timer with this product, and to verify a 120 V AC 60 Hz supply.
