Nine Bar Basics product guide
Bosch 300 Series VeroCafe TIU20109 Espresso Machine
Whole-bean households wanting four one-touch drinks and simple controls
The TIU20109 is a compact bean-to-cup machine with a ceramic grinder, a front-access removable brewing unit and an in-cup milk frother, offering espresso, coffee, cappuccino and latte macchiato with three strength levels. It accepts whole beans only, asks for the drip tray and dregs container to be emptied daily, and runs a roughly forty-minute calc'nClean with Bosch tablets. Its warranty caps normal household use at seven thousand cups.

Four drinks, and a firm rule about beans
The control panel described in the Bosch use and care manual has buttons for espresso, coffee, cappuccino and latte macchiato, plus a froth-milk button and a strength button offering three levels. Bosch's own product page puts the number of beverages available at five and names the milk system Milk Express. Neither description names a hot-water tap or a pre-ground bypass.
The manual is blunt about what may go into the machine. It says to use only pure roasted bean mixes suitable for fully automatic coffee or espresso machines, and specifically rules out coated beans, caramelized beans, oily beans and beans treated with sugar-containing additives. It also states plainly that ground coffee is not to be added, which matches the listing's whole-bean input field.
That restriction is worth weighing before purchase. If your household drinks flavoured or heavily oiled dark roasts, or wants to drop in a decaf scoop occasionally, this machine's own instructions do not support either habit.
The frother works in the cup, not in a jug
Milk here is handled by a frother that slides down into the cup rather than a separate pitcher. The key tips sheet supplied with the machine says to lower the frother into a cup of milk or milk alternative, hold the button for the drink you want until its light flashes, and press that button again when the foam level is right.
Froth level is saved per drink, not globally. The same sheet states that saving a froth level on one milk drink does not carry it to the others, so cappuccino and latte macchiato each need their own setting. The manual adds that frothing time can be adjusted by holding the drink button for three seconds while a suitable quantity of milk is in the cup, and that this does not change the fill level.
The manual asks for the frother to be cleaned after every use. Its routine is to place a glass of water under the outlet, slide the frother down and run the milk-system cleaning, then slide it up, let it cool, remove it and clean it thoroughly. The frother is on the dishwasher-safe list, with detergent residues rinsed off afterwards.
Grinder and cup sizes are adjustable, with conditions
Grind is set with a rotary selector, and the manual attaches a condition most buyers will not expect: the level must only be changed while the grinder is actually running, and moved step by step. Counterclockwise gives a finer grind for light-roasted beans and clockwise a coarser one for dark roasts.
Changes are also not immediate. The manual says a new grinding level only takes effect from the second cup onwards, so judging the result needs two drinks rather than one. We did not read the manual's troubleshooting section, so nothing here is drawn from it.
Cup volumes are programmable within limits. The manual gives an espresso range of about 0.8 to 2 ounces and a coffee range of about 2.7 to 6.8 ounces, and says the machine always brews a minimum of roughly 0.8 ounce for espresso and 2.7 ounces for coffee. Automatic switch-off can be set anywhere from fifteen minutes to four hours, with thirty minutes as the factory setting.
Size and tank figures, and one number that does not fit
The manual's technical specifications give 120 volts, 60 hertz, a 1,600-watt rating and a maximum static pump pressure of 15 bar, with a ceramic grinding unit. It lists the appliance as 15.1 inches high, 9.9 inches wide and 17 inches deep, with a power cord of about 39 inches. The listing's table is close on those, giving 16.5 deep by 9.75 wide by 14.88 high.
Weight is where the documents part company. The manual states an empty weight of roughly 17.6 to 19.8 pounds, while the listing's item weight field says 14.74 pounds. We are not guessing which is right; treat the heavier figure as the planning number if you need to lift or shelve the machine.
Capacities are near but not identical. The manual gives a maximum water tank capacity of 44 ounces without the filter fitted and a bean container of 8.8 ounces, about 250 grams, while the listing says 45 fluid ounces and a 9-ounce hopper. The manual also limits use to enclosed residential spaces up to about 6,560 feet of altitude, bans operation in a cupboard and rules out extension cords and multi-socket strips.
Daily cleaning and the calc'nClean session
The manual asks for the drip tray and coffee dregs container to be cleaned and emptied every day. It notes the machine rinses itself automatically when switched on cold or switched off after dispensing coffee, so the automatic rinses handle the lines but not the trays.
The dishwasher list is specific and short. Suitable: drip plate, drip grate, coffee dregs container, mechanical fill level indicator and milk frother, in a program that does not exceed 140 degrees Fahrenheit. Not suitable: the water tank and its lid, the aroma lid, the drip tray and the brewing unit. The brewing unit comes out of the front and is cleaned under warm running water only, with dish detergent, vinegar and acidic cleaners all ruled out.
The combined descale-and-clean service program, calc'nClean, is stated as taking about forty minutes and needs a cleaning tablet plus a Bosch descaling tablet and a container of roughly a litre. We are not reproducing the sequence here; follow the manual. The manual also rules out pure citric acid, vinegar-based agents and phosphoric-acid descalers, and says only tablets developed for the appliance should be used.
The warranty is two years with real conditions
Bosch's statement of limited product warranty in this manual runs for seven hundred and thirty days from the date of original delivery, which matches the listing's two-year description, plus a separate thirty-day window for cosmetic defects such as scratches and blemishes. Proof of purchase is required, and without it the production date plus three months is used instead.
Eligibility is narrower than the headline. Bosch's product page states the two-year term ends at two years from original delivery or seven thousand cups, whichever comes first, and the manual defines normal household use by that same cup count. Coverage applies to units bought new at retail from an authorized dealer rather than display, floor, as-is or B-stock, and to machines that stay in the country of original purchase within the United States or Canada.
The exclusion list matters for a machine with consumables. Water filters and other consumables are not covered, nor are products purchased on eBay or at auction, shipping damage, use-and-care-related repairs, or damage attributed to care products not sold by Bosch, which includes third-party descalers and cleaners. Bosch covers ground shipping back to it for a valid claim and requires its own shipping tote or packing instructions. We have not used this machine and make no claim about its output or durability.
