What the Magnifica Duo listing sells

This Silver listing is model ECAM33080SXB, the number De'Longhi's US product and support pages also use. It is a fully automatic bean-to-cup machine with a 2.4-inch display: it grinds, doses, brews and froths milk. De'Longhi lists 20 preset hot and iced recipes built on three brewing methods for espresso, drip-style coffee and cold brew.

The listing's included components are the machine, a hot milk carafe and a cold milk carafe, a removable water spout, a carbon active filter, a measuring scoop, a water hardness test strip, a cleaning brush and two cleaning tabs. The instruction book's accessory list notes that the number and type of accessories differ according to model, so check the carton against the listing.

Two milk carafes with different storage limits

The instruction book refers to a LatteCrema Hot carafe and a LatteCrema Cool carafe, with a froth dial set to minimum, medium or maximum for different drinks. It lists soy, almond and oat drinks as usable. After each milk drink the machine asks you to run a Clean function on the carafe.

If milk is left in a carafe, the manual says to refrigerate it straight after cleaning: the Hot carafe for no more than two days and the Cool carafe for no more than one day. A carafe left out of the fridge for more than 30 minutes should be taken apart and cleaned. The manual recommends washing carafe parts in a dishwasher, with hand washing as an alternative.

Coffee options and pre-ground limits

De'Longhi lists a conical burr grinder with 13 settings, three user profiles, five drink sizes, four intensity levels and three temperature options. The manual says the grinder ring should only be turned while the grinder is running, and that at least three coffees should be made before adjusting again. The machine includes an on-screen grinder tutorial.

Pre-ground coffee goes through a separate funnel. The manual says never to add more than one level scoop, that only one cup can be made at a time with pre-ground coffee, and that the double espresso cannot be made that way. The listed default espresso is 40 millilitres, programmable from 20 to 180, with other drinks shown in the manual's quantity table.

Where to put it

The installation section says the machine gives off heat and needs at least 3 centimetres (1.18 inches) clear at the sides and back and 15 centimetres (5.9 inches) above. It warns against placing it near taps or sinks or in a room that can drop below freezing, and says to check the mains voltage against the rating plate under the machine.

De'Longhi's product page lists dimensions of 240 by 440 by 360 without units or axis labels, and its comparison table gives 17.32 by 9.45 by 14.17 inches. The listing gives 17.5 inches deep, 9.5 wide and 14 high. Add the clearances above to whichever figure you decide to use.

Routine cleaning and descaling

The manual asks you to empty the grounds container every time the drip tray is removed, clean the water tank about monthly, brush the pre-ground funnel about monthly and vacuum the inside of the machine about monthly. The brewing unit is rinsed with water only, with no detergent and no dishwasher, and the drip tray grille is marked as not dishwasher safe.

A guided Machine Cleaning routine uses one cleaning tab and takes about ten minutes, and descaling takes about 25 minutes. The manual says to use only De'Longhi descaler and warns that unsuitable descaler or skipped descaling may cause faults not covered by the guarantee. Follow the on-screen steps and the manual for quantities; this guide does not repeat them.

Figures that disagree between sources

De'Longhi's technical data lists 1,450 watts at 120 volts, while the Amazon listing states 1,250 watts. The maker gives the water tank as 60.87 ounces and the listing as 60 fluid ounces. The maker's bean hopper line reads '8.82' under a grams label and the cup height line reads '5.46' under a millimetres label, so read the figures in the manual or on the box before relying on either line.

The listing states a two-year manufacturer warranty plus one extra year with product registration. De'Longhi's product page mentions a full manufacturer warranty and product registration but does not state the term in the text read for this guide. Check the warranty card in the box and register the machine if you want the extended cover the listing describes.
