De'Longhi Rivelia EXAM44055B, Onyx Black

Households that switch between two beans and want one-touch hot milk drinks

The Rivelia EXAM44055B in Onyx Black has two removable bean hoppers, a 3.5-inch touch display, four user profiles and a LatteCrema Hot carafe. Swapping hoppers needs the grinder emptied to avoid mixed beans, and cold foam needs a separately sold accessory. The hopper line in De'Longhi's data table does not match its own 8.8-ounce wording, so check the box.

What this Onyx Black listing sells

This listing is the Rivelia in Onyx Black, model EXAM44055B, which De'Longhi's US product page calls the Rivelia LatteCrema. The instruction book linked from the support page covers the EXAM44X5Y range at 120 volts, 60 hertz and 1,450 watts. It is a fully automatic machine with a 3.5-inch colour touch display, four user profiles and 18 or more preset recipes.

The listing's included components are the machine, a hot milk carafe, a filter, a measuring scoop, a total hardness test, a cleaning brush and a removable water spout. Both the listing and De'Longhi's page describe the LatteCrema Cool cold-foam accessory as a separate upgrade, so cold milk recipes are not part of this box.

How the two bean hoppers work

The Rivelia takes two removable bean hoppers, which the listing and maker page describe as 8.8 ounces each. The manual's setup has you check the grinding regulator is on 5, remove a grinder protection lid, then align the hopper's arrows and turn it to the lock mark; follow its own pages for the sequence.

Swapping hoppers is guided on screen. The manual warns that if you change hoppers without emptying the grinder, your next coffee will be a mix of the old and new beans, and it offers options to use up the remaining beans in a drink or run a grind-and-empty cycle. Coffee powder on the hopper housing is described as normal.

Milk, travel mugs and profiles

The manual says the machine works with cow's milk and plant-based drinks, but not raw milk, and that milk left in the carafe can go back in the fridge for no more than two days. It recommends the dishwasher for the milk carafe parts, and the machine reminds you each week to clean the carafes thoroughly with a guided sequence.

A 'to go' function sizes drinks for a travel mug no taller than 14 cm (5.51 inches); the manual says the mug itself is sold separately and drinks should be used within two hours. Settings saved with the My function apply only to the profile selected at the time.

Space and routine cleaning

Place the machine on a level, stable surface with at least 3 cm (1.18 inches) at the sides and back and 15 cm (5.90 inches) above, away from taps and sinks and out of rooms that can freeze. De'Longhi and the listing both give 17 by 9.75 by 14.75 inches. The manual also includes a guided empty-circuit routine.

The grounds container prompts appear 72 hours after the first coffee even if it is not full, and it must be emptied whenever the drip tray comes out. Clean the tank and the pre-ground funnel about monthly. The brewing unit is soaked and rinsed with water only, with no detergents and no dishwasher. After more than three days unused, the manual recommends refreshing the tank and running two or three rinses.

Descaling

The machine shows a message when descaling is due, and the guided procedure takes about 30 minutes with a 1.5 litre container. The manual says to use only De'Longhi descaler and warns that unsuitable descaler or incorrect descaling may cause faults not covered by the warranty. Follow the on-screen steps and the manual for amounts rather than a summary.

If you have not bought descaler when the message appears, the manual says the cycle can be postponed. Set the water hardness at setup using the supplied test strip so the descaling reminder matches your supply, and keep De'Longhi descaler in the cupboard before the prompt arrives.

Figures that differ between sources

De'Longhi's technical data lists a 19 bar pump, 1,450 watts, a 47.34-ounce water container and 21.39 pounds; the listing gives 1,450 watts, 47 fluid ounces and 21.4 pounds, and describes the grinder as having 13 settings. The maker's bean hopper line reads '8.82' under a grams label and the cup height '5.46' under a millimetres label, which do not match the 8.8-ounce hopper wording elsewhere.

The listing has no warranty field, and De'Longhi's page mentions a full manufacturer warranty and extended warranty through registration without stating a term in the text read here. Check the warranty card in the box. The manual's cleaning table lists which parts are dishwasher safe; confirm your parts against that table before loading the dishwasher.
