The size label: 20, 23 or 24 inches?

The listing sells this as the Helium DLX 20 Inch Carry-On, and its bullet calls it the 20-inch Carry-On Plus. DELSEY's own product page for the same SKU, 40239780500, titles it the 24-Inch Expandable Carry-On Suitcase, and the page's size selector calls it S expandable. The same number ties both documents to one bag.

Ignore the labels and use DELSEY's measurements. The Technical Specifications give exterior dimensions of 23.5 inches high by 14.25 wide by 10 deep, growing to 11.25 inches deep when expanded. The interior is 20 by 13.5 by 9 inches, or 10.25 inches deep expanded. The listing bullet gives the same figures.

DELSEY's description says the bag is compatible with most airline carry-on rules, and the listing bullet adds that carry-on limits vary by airline. Neither claim has been checked here. Compare the 23.5 by 14.25 by 10 inch exterior figure, not the 20-inch label, with the published limit of each airline you fly, and remember the depth grows by 1.25 inches when expanded.

Capacity and weight

DELSEY publishes interior volume of 40 litres, or 46 litres when expanded, and exterior volume of 55 litres, or 62 litres expanded. The listing bullet gives the same 40 and 46 litre interior figures. Amazon's table lists capacity as 39.2 litres and storage volume as 36.1 litres, which match neither of DELSEY's figures.

DELSEY gives the weight as 6.8 pounds, and the listing bullet agrees. Amazon's Measurements table says 6.7 pounds. The difference is small, but use DELSEY's figure if your airline weighs cabin bags.

DELSEY lists the fabric as polyester and nylon at 480 by 300 by 900 denier. The listing bullet describes durable, tightly woven polyester, and its page title mentions DuraTec fabric. DELSEY's product page does not describe the fabric as water resistant, although Amazon's table says water resistant.

Packing layout and the washable lining

DELSEY describes two exterior pockets and an interior with a zipped mesh pocket and tie-down straps. It includes a removable bi-fold organizer as a bonus item, which snaps into the case. The description also mentions shoe and wet sections.

The lining is removable and washable, and DELSEY's product page says to wash it on a delicate cycle. For care of anything beyond the lining, check the documentation supplied with the bag or ask DELSEY.

The listing bullet calls the organizer a removable bi-fold toiletry bag and mentions padded top and side carry handles. Neither DELSEY nor the listing gives a maximum packed weight for the bag, so the published volume is the only capacity figure.

Wheels, zipper and the lock question

DELSEY describes Dual-Density Silent-Core wheels and ergonomic handles. Amazon's table records eight wheels; DELSEY's page does not give a wheel count. The listing bullet says the handle was designed specifically for the Helium DLX collection.

The zipper is DELSEY's patented Zip SECURITECH, which DELSEY calls an anti-theft zipper. The listing bullet adds that it uses two layers of zipper and is three times more resistant to intrusion than a conventional zip; that comparison appears in the listing, not on DELSEY's product page.

Amazon's table gives a lock type of combination lock, but neither DELSEY's product page nor the listing bullets describe a built-in lock. Separately, DELSEY's warranty page says product locks are intended only to prevent accidental opening and cannot necessarily prevent theft or entry by airline or airport staff or authorities.

Five years or ten? The warranty length conflict

DELSEY's product page gives a 5-year warranty in three places: the description, the 5-Year Worldwide Warranty badge and the Warranty & Returns panel. The listing bullet also says 5-year worldwide warranty. Amazon's Item details table, however, gives a 10 Year Manufacturer's Warranty.

DELSEY's warranty page says the length depends on the product and tells you to check the product labelling, the hangtag and the documentation that comes with the bag. DELSEY's own page states five years for this SKU in three places, so treat the 10-year table entry as unconfirmed and check the hangtag when the bag arrives.

Under DELSEY's 5 Year Limited Warranty, the coverage is manufacturing defects in material and workmanship for wheels, zippers, extension handles and carrying handles, counted from the date of purchase. It applies only to the original purchaser or gift recipient.

Proof of purchase, airline damage and claim costs

Registration is not required, but DELSEY's warranty page says that if you do not register you must provide the original store receipt showing purchase from an authorised DELSEY retailer. The page does not say which sellers count as authorised, so keep your order confirmation and consider registering using the hangtag details.

Damage from handling by third parties such as airlines and hotels is excluded, as are normal wear and tear, accidents, neglect or misuse, cosmetic abrasions, scratches, dents or stains that do not impair function, and exposure to extreme conditions or liquids. DELSEY advises claiming against the transit company at the place of arrival if a bag is damaged in transit.

Claims go through an Authorized Repair Center, and you pay the cost of getting the bag there, including packaging, shipping and taxes. If the repair is covered, DELSEY pays for the repair or replacement and return shipping, though the page notes some repair centres may charge an additional fee.
