Called a 22-inch carry-on, measured at 24.5 inches

The Amazon title describes this bag as the Elevation Plus 22-Inch Carry-On. Samsonite's own specification table gives the external dimensions as 24.5 inches high, 15.8 inches long and 10.5 inches wide, with a linear dimension of 50.8 inches. The 22-inch label does not match the maker's outside height.

Amazon's details table lists 14.5 by 8.5 by 21.25 inches, which sits close to Samsonite's interior figure of 21.3 by 14.5 by 8.5 inches rather than the outside of the bag. If you compare the listing numbers with an airline limit, you will be comparing the packing space, not the case that goes into the sizer.

Samsonite states that carry-on allowances vary by airline and adds that an overstuffed bag may not be accepted. Check the 24.5 by 15.8 by 10.5 inch figure against the published limit of your carrier and fare before you buy; this guide does not claim it fits any particular sizer.

Expansion adds 1.5 inches, and the bag is soft

Samsonite and the listing both say the bag expands by 1.5 inches. Samsonite does not say whether its 10.5-inch external width is measured with the expansion open or closed, so ask Samsonite if that detail decides whether the bag fits your airline.

This is a softside case. The listing's table gives the material as polyester and the shell type as soft, and Samsonite describes the body fabric as Recyclex RPET. Samsonite's own page warns that an overstuffed bag may not be accepted by airlines.

Keep the expansion closed on flights where your bag is likely to be measured, and use it when the bag is checked or when you have room to spare. That approach follows Samsonite's own caution rather than any test of ours.

Weight: 8.2 pounds from Samsonite, 8.31 from Amazon

Samsonite's specification table gives the weight as 8.2 pounds. Amazon's details table gives 8.31 pounds. The difference is small, but if your airline enforces a cabin-bag weight limit, use the heavier figure when planning what you pack.

The RightHeight handle system offers multiple one-inch height adjustments, according to both sources. Neither gives the lowest or highest handle position, so taller or shorter travellers should check the handle in person if that matters to them.

Samsonite describes recessed 360-degree dual spinner wheels. Amazon's table counts eight wheels. Neither source gives a wheel diameter, and the warranty text does not list wheels as a separately covered part.

Packing features: what is inside and outside

Samsonite lists a Quick-Access Stash Pocket with a soft lining for smaller items and a retractable identification tag. Neither Samsonite nor the listing mentions a laptop sleeve, so do not plan on carrying a computer in a dedicated pocket in this case.

For packing, Samsonite lists a PEVA-lined wet pouch inside the top pocket, a lined bottom pocket, X-style cross straps, and a compression panel with a U pocket. It also describes a gusseted Zip and Expand laundry bag for keeping worn clothes apart from the rest of the load.

Samsonite describes a Modular Packing Panel made from the exterior body fabric, meant to be used beyond the journey as a separate accessory. The listing names the same panel. The lining is Recyclex RPET Clean Chroma fabric, according to Samsonite.

AirTag holder and colour choice

Samsonite says a holder for an AirTag is permanently attached on the interior of the bag. The listing calls it a dedicated AirTag holder. Neither source says an AirTag is included, so plan to supply your own tracker if you want to use the holder.

The Samsonite page offers this carry-on in Cypress Green, Midnight Blue and Slate. The listing sells the Slate colour under part number 147938-2134, and the Samsonite item numbers for this bag begin with 147938, which is the family this guide describes.

Samsonite's page does not describe a built-in lock for this softside model, and the listing does not mention one either. If a TSA-accessible lock matters to you, confirm with Samsonite before buying.

Warranty: ten years for manufacturing defects

The Samsonite page names a Limited 10 Year Global Warranty. The warranty page says that covers manufacturing defects in material and workmanship for ten years from purchase, for the first purchaser or gift recipient, with Samsonite choosing whether to fix or replace the product.

It excludes misuse, neglect, accidents, abrasion, exposure to extreme temperatures, solvents, acids and water, normal wear and tear, and transport damage such as damage by airlines. Only manufacturing defects in material and workmanship are covered.

Warranty repairs must be done by an approved Samsonite service centre, and improper repairs void the warranty. For purchases in California on or after July 1, 2023, Samsonite says the warranty starts on the delivery date.
