Fit and limits
Strengths
- Expands to 50 litres of interior space at 6.6 lb
- DELSEY publishes interior and exterior sizes, expanded and not
- 2-year terms cover defects that affect function, not only named parts
Caveats
- DELSEY's own page says 2 years and 3 years for the warranty
- No built-in lock; you add your own to the zipper pullers
- Warranty excludes airline damage, and you pay shipping to the repair centre
Sold as 21 inch, titled 23-inch, measured at 22.75
The listing names this the Sky Max 3.0 21 Inch Carry-On. DELSEY's product page for the same SKU, 40397580500, titles it the 23-Inch Expandable Carry-On Suitcase and labels the size S expandable. The shared model number ties both pages to one bag, so use the measurements rather than either label.
DELSEY's Technical Specifications give exterior dimensions of 22.75 inches high by 15 wide by 10 deep, growing to 11.25 inches deep when expanded. The interior is 19.75 by 14.5 by 9.5 inches, or 10.75 inches deep expanded. The listing bullet gives 22.8 by 15 by 10 inches, including handles and wheels.
DELSEY's description says the bag meets carry-on requirements for most major airlines, and the listing says it is designed to fit most airline carry-on requirements. Neither claim has been checked here. Compare the unexpanded exterior size with each airline's published limit, and note that expanding adds 1.25 inches of depth.
Capacity and weight
DELSEY gives interior volume as 44 litres, or 50 litres expanded, and exterior volume as 56 litres, or 63 litres expanded. Amazon's table for this ASIN lists capacity as 35 litres, which matches none of DELSEY's figures. Use DELSEY's published volumes.
Weight is 6.6 pounds on both DELSEY's specifications and Amazon's table. The listing describes the bag as ideal for short trips of two to five days, business travel and weekend getaways, which is the seller's suggestion rather than a DELSEY specification.
The fabric is polyester according to DELSEY, and the listing says 100 percent polyester. Amazon's table records the bag as not water resistant, and DELSEY's page does not describe the outer fabric as water resistant, although it does mention a removable water-resistant pouch inside.
No built-in lock
This model has no built-in TSA lock. The listing says so directly, explaining that the interlocking zipper pullers are designed to accommodate a combination lock if you choose to add one. DELSEY's product page does not describe a lock, and Amazon's table records the lock type as zipper lock.
If you want the bag locked, you will need to supply your own lock for the zipper pullers. DELSEY's warranty page also notes that product locks are intended only to prevent accidental opening and cannot necessarily prevent theft or entry by airline, airport or government staff.
The listing describes an updated silhouette and a redesigned integrated carry handle with a soft-touch grip. DELSEY's page mentions top and side handles, and the listing adds a bottom handle, so you have three places to grip when lifting the bag into a bin.
Wheels, handle and interior layout
The listing describes four double-spinner wheels, and Amazon's table records eight wheels; neither explains the difference in count. DELSEY's product page describes smooth double spinner wheels without giving a count. The listing says the telescoping handle has two positions.
Inside, the listing describes two zip pockets, a fly zipper pocket and adjustable tie-down straps in the main compartment, plus two exterior zip pockets. DELSEY's page mentions multiple pockets for quick access and a removable water-resistant pouch, which the listing bullets do not mention by name.
Neither DELSEY nor the listing gives a maximum packed weight. The listing's Included Components row says only that a bonus item is included without naming it, so check the box contents against DELSEY's description when the bag arrives and ask DELSEY if anything seems missing.
Two years or three? The warranty conflict
DELSEY's product page contradicts itself. Its description says the bag is backed by a 3-year manufacturer's warranty, while the badge on the same page says 2-Year Worldwide Warranty and the Warranty & Returns panel says 2 years. Amazon's Item details table says 3 Year Manufacturer's Limited Warranty.
DELSEY's Warranty Coverage page lists 2, 5 and 10-year and lifetime terms, but no 3-year term, and it tells you to check the product labelling, the hangtag and the documentation that comes with the bag. Plan on two years, which is the shorter figure DELSEY states, and read the hangtag before relying on more.
Under DELSEY's 2 Year Limited Warranty, the cover is defects in materials and workmanship that negatively impact the functional performance of the product. It applies to the original purchaser or gift recipient and runs from the date of purchase.
Exclusions and how to claim
DELSEY excludes normal wear and tear, accident, neglect or misuse, cosmetic abrasions, scratches, dents or stains that do not impair function, exposure to extreme conditions or liquids, and defects caused by handling by third parties such as airlines and hotels. It advises claiming against the transit company at the place of arrival.
Registration is optional, but if you have not registered, DELSEY's warranty page requires the original store receipt showing purchase from an authorised DELSEY retailer. The page does not say which sellers are authorised, so keep your order confirmation and consider registering with the hangtag details.
An Authorized Repair Center assesses each claim and makes the final decision. You pay all costs of getting the bag there, including packaging, shipping and taxes; if covered, DELSEY pays for the repair or replacement and the return, though some repair centres may charge an additional fee.
