A plug-in NACS charger where an EV-grade NEMA 14-50 outlet can be placed precisely
Grizzl-E's plug-in Wi-Fi station in black with a NACS connector: 40 A and 9.60 kW on a 50 A circuit, a 25-foot output cable and a cast aluminium UL Type 4 body. A plug-in 40 A charger with a NACS connector
The Classic Connect is Grizzl-E's plug-in station: a cast aluminium body with a NEMA 14-50 input cable and a 25-foot output cable. This listing is the black NACS version. Grizzl-E's manual and its tech specs panel both say the model is offered with either an SAE J1772 or a NACS connector.
The manual's specification table gives AC Level 2, a maximum output of 40 A and 9.60 kW for use with a 50 A circuit rating, a 25-foot cable, a UL Type 4 indoor and outdoor installation rating, an operating range of minus 22 to 122 degrees Fahrenheit, humidity at 95 percent RH non-condensing, enclosure dimensions of 10.25 by 6.25 by 3.75 inches and a weight of 21 pounds.
One naming caveat before you file the paperwork. The listing's manufacturer part number reads GRS-14-25NACS-B, while the manual's four model numbers are written GRS-077-W-14-25J40-A-GB, the same with GW, and the two matching N40 numbers for the NACS versions. The listing's model number field simply says Grizzl-E Classic Connect, which is the product the manual covers.
The outlet is the part to get right
Grizzl-E's manual asks for a dedicated circuit rated 50 A on 208 VAC single phase or 240 VAC split phase for the full 40 A setting, with a double pole breaker of the circuit rating, and says the station can be plugged into a standard NEMA 14-50 receptacle. Installing that receptacle is work for a licensed contractor, electrician or trained installer.
Three requirements from the manual shape where the outlet goes. The receptacle must be rated EV grade, it must be installed with the ground facing downward, and its bottom must sit at least 18 inches above floor level. Grizzl-E also says the distance between receptacle and charger has to leave slack in the input cable.
Measure before anyone drills. The manual states that the input cable length is 16 to 24 inches because of manufacturing variances, and tells you to measure your own unit's cable before installing the charger and the receptacle. That is a narrow window, and it decides where on the wall the outlet can be.
Current settings, GFCI and the optional hardwire path
The maximum output is adjustable with a four-position DIP switch behind the front cover, reached with the supplied hex key and with the power off. The manual pairs a 50 A circuit with 40 A output, 40 A with 32 A, 30 A with 24 A and 20 A with 16 A, and notes that only 80 percent of the circuit-rated load may be used.
The charger has GFCI built in, and the manual says additional downstream GFCI is not required. Where code does require GFCI at the outlet, it asks for a 20 mA GFCI breaker and warns that a 5 mA breaker may disrupt the charger's operation. That is a detail worth passing to your electrician before they pick a breaker.
There is also an optional hardwire route. The manual includes a section for removing the NEMA 14-50 input cable and wiring the charger directly, with its own equipment list and torque figures. It is explicit that the work must be done by a licensed contractor, electrician or trained installer, so read that section in the manual itself.
Mounting, contents and the monthly check
The manual's package contents are a mounting kit with the bracket, four front plate screws, two back plate screws, a hex key tool and a security pin, plus a charging holster with four Phillips-head screws and four anchors. Grizzl-E's overview page lists the charger, a Heavy Duty EasyEvPlug and a mounting kit, and the listing's bullets also mention the heavy-duty holster.
The mounting rules are strict. Grizzl-E says every charging station must be anchored into a support such as a two-by-four stud or a solid concrete wall and must not be mounted directly to stucco or drywall, that the coupling device's storage means should sit between 18 and 48 inches from grade, and that the supply cord must not touch the floor once installed.
One recurring job comes with the plug-in design. The manual says to check the NEMA 14-50 receptacle's torque at least once a month and tighten it if it is out of specification, because the receptacle can loosen during normal use, and it prints a warning about the consequence of leaving it loose. Read that warning in the manual before you install.
Wi-Fi, the app and what the lights mean
Connectivity is a 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network, according to both the manual's specification table and Grizzl-E's tech specs panel. The manual's contents list names later sections on Wi-Fi troubleshooting, automatic hidden Wi-Fi and Wi-Fi connection reset, so check that a 2.4 GHz band reaches the garage wall before installation day rather than after.
Pairing runs through the Grizzl-E Connect app, which the overview page describes as covering scheduling, charging history, access control including disabling the charger, and device management. The listing adds that charging works with or without an online connection and that premium OCPP is unlocked by a one-time activation.
We did not read the manual's later pages. Its contents list names sections on indicator lights, the LED fault indicator, self-monitoring and recovery, error troubleshooting, the Grizzl-E Connect app and Wi-Fi troubleshooting, so the light codes and fault behaviour for this model sit in the manual rather than on this page.
Where the documents disagree, and the warranty
Grizzl-E's own overview page does not match its own manual everywhere. The page's tech specs list max power as 40A 10kW while the manual's specification table says 40 A and 9.60 kW. Its visual features line reads 22F to 122F operating temperature where the tech specs panel and the manual both say minus 22 to 122 degrees Fahrenheit.
The enclosure is described three ways as well. The overview page's visual features call it an aluminium IP67 enclosure, the tech specs panel says UL Type 4 Indoor/Outdoor Rating, and the manual's specification table also says UL Type 4. Weight is another gap, at 21 pounds in the manual against 19.16 pounds in the listing, with no explanation in either document.
On cover, the overview page's tech specs give a 3 Year default warranty and its protected block mentions a lifetime warranty with Grizzl-E Club, while the listing's warranty field and bullets say 3-year warranty. The manual we read does not print warranty terms, so ask United Chargers what your unit carries and what the club condition involves before relying on it.
