Nine Bar Basics product guide
Terra Kaffe TK-02 Super-Automatic Espresso Machine
App-driven households that want drip coffee and espresso from one machine
The TK-02 uses a hybrid brew unit to make drip coffee as well as espresso, with a milk carafe and frothing dial, a touchscreen and an app that stores custom drinks, espresso profiles and an auto-wake schedule. Cleaning is prompted with coloured status dots and needs superautomatic-formulated products. Check the published spec figures against the machine, and check that your seller is an authorized reseller before relying on the warranty.

One brew unit, two very different drinks
Terra Kaffe's own page describes a hybrid brew unit that makes drip coffee by adjusting brew volume and flow rather than stretching an espresso shot, alongside espresso from the same unit. The listing repeats that framing and notes the machine does not work with pods. Both whole beans and pre-ground coffee are supported, but by different routes.
The pre-ground path has firm limits in the manual. You select pre-ground on the touchscreen, lift only the pre-ground chute lid, and add a single dose of no more than fourteen grams. Whole beans must never go in that chute because they can damage the brew unit, pre-ground coffee must never be added while the machine is off, and with pre-ground selected you can make only one shot at a time.
The bean route has its own rule: only fresh, room-temperature, non-oily and unflavoured whole beans go in the hopper, and the manual says anything else will damage the machine. It recommends beans consumed within thirty days of a Roasted On date, and its maintenance list includes checking the hopper and chute for foreign objects.
Milk runs through a carafe, and it prompts you to rinse
Milk is drawn from a carafe connected by a hose to a port on the machine, with a frothing knob on the front for foam texture. The maker's page describes a dedicated heating element for steam and a frothing dial, and says any milk type can be used.
After the milk function runs, the manual says the machine displays a prompt to clean the milk spout, and that hot water and steam come out of the spout area while that runs. The same rinse can be started from the touchscreen menu when no prompt appears, and the carafe and hose are to be cleaned regularly by hand.
The troubleshooting page gives the practical failure mode: if the machine steams but no milk comes through, check that there is milk in the carafe, that the carafe is connected, that the hose reaches the bottom, that the milk is not too thick, and that the frothing dial is turned fully counter-clockwise.
How it sleeps, and why the rear switch matters
The manual describes a staged power-down. After thirty minutes without use the machine enters screensaver mode, and after five hours in screensaver it goes to sleep, running a cleaning cycle before it does and then lowering the internal heating temperature to save energy.
There is a clear warning about how you switch it off. The manual says to use the touchscreen to put the machine to sleep, and only then use the rear power switch if it will be unused for an extended period. Using the rear switch alone bypasses a rinse cycle and power-down process that the manual calls key to keeping the machine working properly.
Placement is also specified: at least an inch and a half of clearance on the left and right for the vents, and an empty glass under the spout while waking or sleeping the machine, because short spurts of hot water and steam can appear.
Three published spec sheets that do not fully agree
The manual's specification page gives 17.52 inches long by 10.87 wide by 14.37 high, 29.5 pounds, 5.5 inches of cup clearance, a 12-ounce bean hopper, 48-millimetre conical burrs, 19 bar pump pressure, a 40-ounce drip tray, a waste bin holding nine pucks, a three-foot cable, 1,450 watts, 120 volts and 60 hertz.
Terra Kaffe's support article repeats most of those but gives the width as 10.4 inches, the hopper as 12 ounces with up to 16 possible, and the water tank as 75 fluid ounces. The manual's own table says the tank holds 68 fluid ounces, or two litres. The listing sides with 75 ounces and with 10.4 inches of width, and lists 1,400 watts where both maker documents say 1,450.
None of these gaps is huge, but they are worth knowing before you plan a tight space or a circuit. Measure the machine on arrival, read the fill line on the tank rather than trusting one number, and ask Terra Kaffe which wattage figure applies if it matters to your outlet.
Cleaning is prompted, and skipping it has consequences
Cleaning status shows as coloured dots on the screen and in the app, in green, yellow and red. The spout rinses automatically when the machine is switched on or moved in and out of sleep, and both that rinse and the milk rinse can be started manually from the cleaning menu.
Two deeper cycles are automated but need the right consumables. Descaling requires a superautomatic-formulated descaling product, with the water filter removed first; brewer cleaning uses a brewer cleaning sachet emptied into the pre-ground chute when the screen asks. The manual warns that using an unsuitable product or performing either cycle incorrectly may result in faults that are not covered by the warranty, and that failing to run these cycles when prompted may lead to malfunction and may void the warranty.
Hand washing is the rule for the removable parts. The manual states that the milk carafe, water tank, drip tray, waste bin, drip tray cover, hopper cover and pre-ground chute cover are not dishwasher safe and should be hand washed and air dried. It also asks you to dump and rinse the waste bin regularly because grounds left sitting can grow bacteria.
The app is optional, but the warranty rules are not
Wi-Fi can be switched off from the settings menu on the touchscreen if you would rather not connect the machine. Connected, the manual and the product page describe customisable drink menus, espresso profiles, machine status at a glance, wake times and over-the-air updates.
The warranty in the manual runs two years or five thousand brews from the delivery date, whichever comes first, covering parts and labour on the whole unit, with Terra Kaffe paying outgoing and return shipping to an authorized service centre. Usage is judged by the machine's own cup counter, and repairs may use new or remanufactured parts.
Two exclusions deserve attention before you buy through a marketplace. The warranty covers only products bought through Terra Kaffe or an authorized reseller or distributor, and explicitly does not cover anything bought through an auction, a private seller or a non-authorized online reseller. It is also valid only for products purchased, located and used in the fifty states and the District of Columbia. Confirm the seller's status before ordering. We have not used this machine.
