Fit and limits
Strengths
- Three years of airline-damage repair cover in most Travelpro documents
- Removable compression organizer and a YKK zipper repair kit are included
- Lifetime cover on wheels, zippers and handles while the original owner keeps it
Caveats
- Overall 23 x 14.5 x 9.5 in, above the 22 x 14 x 9 limit Travelpro itself lists
- Handle heights appear only in the listing, not on Travelpro's page
- No built-in lock is described, and it weighs 7 lb empty
The size: 23 inches tall and 9.5 deep with wheels and handles
Travelpro's Dimensions panel gives the case body as 20.5 by 13.75 by 9 inches and the overall size, which includes wheels and carry handles, as 23 inches high by 14.5 inches wide by 9.5 inches deep. The listing bullet gives the same two sets of figures, and Amazon's Measurements table gives the overall size.
Travelpro's FAQ says airlines mean the overall size when they publish limits, and it acknowledges that the 23-inch height is slightly above the 22 by 14 by 9 inch limit it lists for American, Delta and United. It then states the bag still fits those carriers' sizers and bins on mainline aircraft because it has been sizer-bin tested.
That is the maker's claim and has not been checked here. The overall depth of 9.5 inches is also above the 9-inch figure in Travelpro's own table. Compare all three overall dimensions with your airline's current published limit, and Travelpro's FAQ notes that regional jets have smaller bins.
Weight, capacity and what is in the box
Travelpro, the listing bullet and Amazon's table agree on a weight of 7 pounds and a volume of 47 litres. Travelpro describes the bag as a full-size carry-on for short and medium-length trips, suitable for business or leisure travel.
The bag comes with a removable compression packing organizer, which Travelpro says secures contents, optimises packing space and can be used as a divider in the main compartment. Travelpro also says a YKK zipper repair kit is included, so check that it is in the box when you unpack the bag.
Inside, Travelpro lists interior hold-down straps, water-resistant storage and multiple accessory pockets. Amazon's table counts five pockets. Neither the listing nor Travelpro gives a maximum packed weight, so the 47-litre volume is the only published capacity figure.
Wheels, handle and zippers
Travelpro describes the PrecisionGlide system as eight 360-degree MagnaTrac self-aligning spinner wheels, and Amazon's table also records eight wheels, so the sources agree on the wheel count. Wheels are one of the four components named in the lifetime warranty.
The handle description differs between documents. Travelpro's page calls it an airline-grade PowerScope Lite extension handle with a Contour Grip and does not list height stops. The listing bullet calls it a PowerScope aluminium handle adjusting to 36, 38, 40 and 42.5 inches. If the handle heights matter to you, confirm them with Travelpro before relying on the listing figures.
Travelpro says the bag uses YKK zippers for alignment, smooth operation and durability. Zippers are also covered by the lifetime warranty, so a zipper fault that affects function is a warranty matter even before you reach for the included repair kit.
Expansion, fabric and lining
The tapered zippered expansion adds up to two inches of packing capacity, and Travelpro says the tapered design keeps the centre of gravity low to help reduce tipping. Travelpro warns that a fully expanded carry-on may not meet airline restrictions.
Its FAQ suggests boarding with the bag unexpanded wherever the sizer is enforced and keeping the expansion for the trip home or checked segments. Treat the two inches as extra room for the return journey rather than everyday carry-on space.
The listing says the DuraGuard fabric resists stains and abrasion. The ECOFAB lining with H2O Guard is made from recycled plastic bottles; Travelpro says 9 bottles for this bag, while the listing bullet says 8.5. Amazon's table records the lock type as zipper lock, and Travelpro's page describes no built-in lock, so plan on a separate travel lock if you want one.
Airline-damage cover: three years in most documents
The Trusted Companion Promise pays for repair of damage caused by an airline or other common carrier, plus shipping to a Travelpro repair facility, in the country of purchase. For Crew Classic, Travelpro's duration table, the product description, the warranty panel on the product page and the listing all give three years.
One Travelpro document says something different. The summary at the top of Travelpro's Crew Classic warranty page says the promise is valid for the period the product is owned by the original purchaser or gift recipient. This page reports both terms rather than choosing one; the three-year figure is the more cautious assumption, so ask Travelpro to confirm the term when you register.
Registration within 120 days of delivery or gift receipt is the condition in every version. The product page FAQ does not name the warranty for this bag, instead referring you to Travelpro's warranty pages, so keep a copy of the Crew Classic warranty page with your receipt.
Lifetime warranty terms and how to claim
Travelpro's Crew Classic warranty covers defects in materials and workmanship that negatively impact function, including wheels, zippers, extension handles and carrying handles, for as long as the original purchaser or gift recipient owns the bag. Proof of purchase is required, and Travelpro also recommends registering the bag.
It excludes abrasions, scratches, dents or stains that do not impair function, normal wear and tear, abuse, mishandling, accidents, and damage caused by an airline, train service, cruise ship or other common carrier. Loss of contents and similar incidental costs are excluded. Luggage used by professional flight crews is covered for three years.
To claim, drop the bag at an authorised repair centre with proof of purchase, or contact Customer Service to arrange shipment if you registered within 120 days. Unregistered owners pay to ship the bag to the facility; Travelpro pays for the return. The product page also describes an online repair request with photos.
