Sold as a 20-inch, but it is 23 inches tall with wheels
The listing names this size Carry On 20 Inch. Travelpro's Dimensions panel gives the case body as 19.75 by 13.75 by 9.5 inches and the overall size, which includes wheels and carry handles, as 23 inches high by 14.5 inches wide by 9.5 inches deep. The listing bullet and Amazon's table both repeat the 23-inch overall height.
Travelpro's FAQ says airlines mean the overall size when they publish limits, and it states plainly that the 23-inch height is slightly above the 22 by 14 by 9 inch limit it lists for American, Delta and United. It then claims the bag still fits their sizers and bins on mainline aircraft because it has been sizer-bin tested.
That fit claim is Travelpro's and has not been checked here. The depth of 9.5 inches is also half an inch over the 9-inch figure in Travelpro's own table, so if your airline measures strictly, compare all three overall dimensions with its current published limit before relying on the bag.
Weight, shell and corner protection
Travelpro, the listing bullet and Amazon's table all give the weight as 6.7 pounds, and volume as 46 litres. That weight includes the built-in lock and eight wheels described below, since Travelpro gives it for the empty bag as sold.
The shell is 100 percent polycarbonate, which Travelpro says is engineered to flex on impact and resist cracking. Inside, Travelpro describes upgraded, reinforced inner corner guards. The maker also says the finish is designed to deflect visible wear, which is a claim rather than a measured result.
The warranty is clear that cosmetic marks are your problem. Travelpro's Maxlite Air V2 warranty excludes abrasions, scratches, dents or stains that do not impair the bag's function, and Travelpro's FAQ calls surface scuffs on hardside shells cosmetic. It recommends storing the bag in its provided fabric cover when not in use.
Lock, handle and wheels
This model has a built-in TSA lock. Travelpro describes it as letting TSA authorities unlock and relock the bag for inspection, with the default code set at 0-0-0, and the listing agrees. Travelpro's page, as read, does not describe how to change the code, so follow the instructions supplied with the bag or ask Travelpro.
The PowerScope Lite handle locks in two positions only, 38 inches and 42.5 inches, according to Travelpro. There is no intermediate stop, so if you are notably shorter or taller than average, check whether either height suits how you walk with a bag. Travelpro describes a patented Contour Grip with a rubberised finish.
The bag rolls on eight 360-degree spinner wheels, and on this ASIN Amazon's table also records eight wheels, so the documents agree. Wheels are one of the four components named in the Built For A Lifetime warranty, along with zippers, extension handles and carrying handles.
Packing layout and the expansion
Inside, Travelpro lists two zippered divider panels and a built-in accessory pocket. The ECOFAB lining is made from recycled plastic bottles, which Travelpro puts at about 9.5 bottles for this bag, and it is treated with H2O Guard for moisture resistance.
The main compartment expands by two inches. Travelpro warns that a fully expanded carry-on may not meet airline restrictions, and its FAQ suggests boarding with the bag unexpanded wherever the sizer is enforced, saving the expansion for the trip home or for checked segments.
Neither the listing nor Travelpro gives a maximum packed weight for the bag. Amazon's table lists one pocket and two sections, which matches the two divider panels and accessory pocket described by Travelpro only loosely, so rely on the maker's description of the interior.
Travelpro's documents disagree on the airline-damage cover
The Trusted Companion Promise pays for repair of damage caused by an airline or other common carrier, plus shipping to a Travelpro repair facility, in the country of purchase. How long it lasts for this bag depends on which Travelpro document you read, and they do not agree.
Travelpro's Maxlite Air V2 warranty page says the promise is valid for the period the product is owned by the original purchaser or gift recipient. Travelpro's duration table lists Maxlite Air as the first year only, the warranty panel on the product page says the first year, and the listing bullet says one year. The product page FAQ also says the bag is covered by the Maxlite 5 warranty.
This page reports both terms rather than choosing one. Until Travelpro confirms otherwise, the cautious assumption is the shorter one-year term, so ask Travelpro to confirm the term in writing when you register. Registration within 120 days of delivery or gift receipt is the condition in every version.
What the lifetime warranty covers and how to claim
The Built For A Lifetime Limited Warranty covers defects in materials and workmanship that negatively impact function, including the wheels, zippers, extension handles and carrying handles. It runs while the original purchaser or gift recipient owns the bag, and proof of purchase is required; Travelpro also recommends registering the bag.
Exclusions include cosmetic damage that does not impair function, normal wear and tear, abuse, mishandling, accidents, and damage caused by an airline, train service, cruise ship or other common carrier. Loss of contents and similar incidental costs are excluded. Professional flight crews get three years rather than lifetime coverage.
To claim, Travelpro says you drop the bag at an authorised repair centre with proof of purchase, or ship it after contacting Customer Service if you registered within 120 days; otherwise shipping to the facility is your cost. Travelpro pays to ship the repaired or replacement bag back, and describes a separate 100-day trial on its own site.
