Travelpro Platinum Elite 21-Inch Expandable Carry-On Spinner
Frequent flyers who want a suiter, USB ports and long airline-damage cover
Travelpro's Platinum Elite carry-on is 23.5 by 14.5 by 9 inches overall including wheels and handles, weighs 7.8 pounds and holds 46 litres. It has USB-A and USB-C ports that need your own power bank, a removable suiter and a two-inch expansion. Travelpro's airline-damage promise runs for as long as the original owner keeps a Platinum Elite softside bag.

Fit and limits
Strengths
- Airline-damage repair cover runs for as long as the original owner keeps it
- Removable fold-out suiter and quart-size wet pocket are built in
- Four handle heights, from 36 to 42.5 inches
Caveats
- Overall height is 23.5 in, which Travelpro says is above the 22 in limit it lists
- Amazon's table lists a combination lock that Travelpro's page does not name
- USB ports need a power bank you supply, and the bag weighs 7.8 lb empty
Two published sizes, and the one that matters is 23.5 inches tall
Travelpro publishes two sets of numbers for this bag. The case dimensions, meaning the packing body alone, are 21 by 14 by 9 inches. The overall dimensions, which Travelpro says include the wheels and carry handles, are 23.5 inches high by 14.5 inches wide by 9 inches deep.
Amazon's Measurements table for this listing gives only 14 by 9 by 21 inches, which is the case body and not the full bag. The listing bullet does give both figures. Travelpro's own FAQ says that airlines mean the overall size when they publish carry-on limits, so the 23.5-inch number is the one to compare.
Travelpro's FAQ openly says the 23.5-inch height is slightly above the 22 by 14 by 9 inch limit it lists for American, Delta and United, while stating that the bag is sizer-bin tested and fits their sizers and bins on mainline aircraft. That is the maker's claim, not something verified here, so check your own airline's current rule before relying on it.
Weight, shell and the eight-wheel system
Travelpro gives the weight as 7.8 pounds, and the listing bullet agrees, while Amazon's Measurements table says 7.72 pounds. The difference is small, but either figure comes out of your allowance on any carrier that weighs cabin bags as well as measuring them.
The exterior is high-density nylon with a DuraGuard coating that Travelpro says resists water and stains. The lining is Travelpro's ECOFAB fabric, which the maker says is made from recycled plastic bottles and treated with H2O Guard. Travelpro also describes genuine leather details and chrome zippers, and notes that the Intrigue Black colour uses gold-finish zippers instead.
Travelpro describes the PrecisionGlide system as eight MagnaTrac self-aligning, magnetic, 360-degree spinner wheels. Amazon's Features & Specs table records four wheels, and the listing bullet calls them dual spinner wheels; the listing title says eight wheels, so rely on Travelpro's description. The PowerScope aluminium handle locks at four heights: 36, 38, 40 and 42.5 inches.
USB ports, but you bring the battery
The bag has external USB-A and USB-C ports wired to a dedicated interior pocket for a power bank. Travelpro and the listing both state clearly that the power bank is not included. Without one of your own the ports have nothing to draw on, so plan to supply a battery if charging on the move is part of why you want this bag.
Travelpro publishes the port outputs. The USB-A port is listed at 5V 3A, 9V 2A, 12V 1.5A and 5V 4.5A, and the USB-C port at 5V 2A. Travelpro says the power bank pocket adheres to FAA regulations; check your airline's own rules on spare batteries in cabin bags before you fly with one fitted.
Travelpro's FAQ describes the arrangement as letting you charge without opening the bag. It does not say how the cable is routed or whether the pocket fits every power bank size, so check the pocket against the battery you already own once the bag arrives, inside the trial window described below.
Packing layout: suiter, wet pocket and expansion
Inside, Travelpro lists a drop-in, fold-out suiter that doubles as a removable garment bag, a deluxe tie-down system, integrated accessory pockets and a removable quart-size wet pocket that Travelpro describes as TSA compliant. Amazon's table counts nine pockets and three sections, a figure Travelpro's page does not repeat.
Volume is 46 litres on both Travelpro's Dimensions panel and Amazon's table. The zippered expansion adds up to two inches of packing depth, and Travelpro describes it as tapered so the centre of gravity stays low to help prevent tipping. Travelpro positions the bag for short to medium-length trips.
Travelpro warns in its Dimensions panel that a fully expanded carry-on may not meet airline restrictions, and its FAQ suggests boarding unexpanded if your airline enforces its sizer. Treat the extra two inches as room for the trip home or a checked segment rather than everyday cabin space.
The lock: the listing table says yes, the maker's page does not say
Amazon's Features & Specs table for this ASIN lists a lock type of combination lock and includes TSA Lock among the special features. None of the five listing bullets mentions a lock, and the Travelpro product page text we read, including its feature list, Details panel and FAQ, does not name a built-in lock.
We are not going to guess which document is correct. If a built-in lock matters to you, ask Travelpro about SKU 409186101 before buying, or plan to use a separate travel lock through the zipper pulls. Treat the lock row in the listing table as unconfirmed until the maker says otherwise.
Neither the listing nor Travelpro's page gives a maximum load for the bag. Travelpro's warranty page says its suitcases are tested above the maximum allowable weight for a checked bag, but it does not give a figure for this model, so do not read that as a stated capacity limit.
Warranty, airline-damage cover and the trial
Travelpro's Built for a Lifetime Limited Warranty covers defects in materials and workmanship on four named components: wheels, zippers, extension handles and carrying handles. The remedy is repair or replacement at Travelpro's discretion. The warranty panel on the product page says the covered defects are those that negatively impact the functional performance of the bag.
The Trusted Companion Promise adds repair of damage caused by an airline or other common carrier in the country of purchase, plus shipping to a Travelpro repair facility. Its duration table gives Platinum Elite Softside luggage cover for as long as the original purchaser or gift recipient owns the bag. Registration within 120 days of delivery or gift receipt activates it.
To claim, Travelpro's FAQ says you submit a repair request online with photos and proof of purchase or registration, or visit an authorised repair centre. Separately, Travelpro describes a 100-day trial with full refund and return shipping covered; the page we read does not say whether that applies to bags bought from other sellers.
