A four-stage purifier sold as the 5500-2's successor

The Amazon title calls the 5510 the new generation of the 5500-2. Winix's page describes it as a four-stage True HEPA purifier with Wi-Fi and PlasmaWave, and its manual covers the 5510 and 5520 together. The manual's package list holds the unit, a pre-filter, an AOC carbon filter, a True HEPA filter, a user manual and a Wi-Fi setup guide.

The manual lists the replacement as Filter Q, SKU 1712-0123-00, with the carbon and HEPA filters each lasting about 12 months. Amazon's part number field, 1022-0233-00, does not appear in the Winix documents we read, so check the model label on the unit rather than the part number.

Room size: 392 square feet verified, 1,882 per hour claimed

Winix states the 5510 is AHAM Verified at 392 square feet, based on 4.8 air changes per hour when removing tobacco smoke in rooms with eight-foot ceilings. The 1,882 square foot figure in the title is Winix's claim for one air change per hour, alongside 941 square feet in 30 minutes.

The CADR figures appear in a different order on Amazon. Winix's page gives dust 252, pollen 247 and smoke 253; the 5510 listing gives dust 253, pollen 252 and smoke 247. The numbers are close, but match the dust and smoke figures to Winix's own table when comparing models.

Leave 12 to 18 inches around it

The manual asks for 12 to 18 inches from walls and from TVs, radios and other electronics, and says not to run it closer than 12 inches to a wall because condensation may form. Plan a spot with open space on every side rather than a corner or a tight shelf.

Winix lists it at 13.59 by 8.27 by 22.17 inches and 13.3 pounds. Amazon's dimensions field gives 11 by 15.9 by 25.2 inches, which does not match Winix's figure, so use the maker's dimensions when checking whether it fits the spot you have in mind.

Maintenance schedule from the manual

The manual's filter table says to clean the pre-filter every 14 days. The carbon filter must not be washed. Winix gives about 12 months for the carbon and HEPA filters, so plan on one Filter Q set per year, sooner in a dustier room.

After replacing filters, hold Filter Reset for five seconds. The manual asks for the interior to be cleaned every one to two months. It lists 120 volts and 65 watts; the Amazon listing we read gives no wattage, so budget on 65 watts at the highest speed.

Sensors, sleep mode and PlasmaWave

In auto mode the smart sensor steps the fan between low, medium and high, and the manual says the sensor needs about four minutes after power-up before it operates normally. Winix's page lists five fan speeds and dual smart sensors. Sleep mode turns off the air-quality light and PlasmaWave.

The manual says the unit complies with a maximum ozone concentration of 0.050 parts per million over 24 hours. Winix's page reports an eight-hour average of 0.22 parts per billion in a chamber test and lists CARB among its certifications. Winix's own wording about ozone is a maker claim we do not repeat.

Warranty: two years, then no parts or repairs

Winix gives a two-year limited warranty from the date of purchase, valid in the USA and Canada and requiring proof of purchase. Keep the receipt, because the manual and the product page both make proof of purchase a condition of any claim.

The manual states that no spare parts will be made available after the warranty expires and that repair services are not available. After two years, a fault means replacing the unit rather than repairing it, which is worth weighing against the yearly filter cost.
