Garage door opener remotes: match the remote to your opener's learn button, then to its brand

Before you buy a remote, find the LEARN button on your opener. Chamberlain says to look under the light cover, on the same side as the antenna. Chamberlain's chart matches its remotes to the button's color. A white button means Security+ 3.0. For white buttons, Chamberlain lists its CH363 3-button remote and its CHU62 universal 2-button remote. Its universal KLIK5U and LiftMaster's 893MAX do not list white. For a Genie Intellicode opener, Genie's G3T-R controls up to three openers made from 1997 on.

Prepared from Chamberlain's, LiftMaster's and Genie's product pages and from our opener guides, read October 10, 2026. We have not tested these remotes. Range and compatibility claims are the makers' own. Four remotes have buy links: the CHU62, G3T-R, G1T-BX and ACSCTG-UNIV2, each checked on October 10, 2026 as new, sold by Amazon.com and in stock. The CH363 listing was not in stock when we checked, so it is not linked, and the other remotes were not checked.

Battery and range

Every remote above whose battery the maker lists takes one CR2032 coin cell; LiftMaster's 893MAX page does not name one. Our B2405 guide reports Chamberlain's figure of up to three years per cell, and that a flat one shows when the remote's LED stops flashing. Check the cell in your own remote first: our Genie 6072H-O guide reports that its manual prints the remote's cell as a CR2232. Range figures are the makers': up to 1,300 ft for the CH363 and CHU62, conditions permitting, and 800 ft for the KLIK5U. Our C2212T and SilentMax 1200 guides report that both manuals warn LED bulbs may cause remote interference or reduce remote range.
