Operator only: what this listing leaves out

The listing's title says operator only and no rail included, and LiftMaster's own packing list explains what that means. The 6690L ships in two cartons: the first holds the opener head, and the second holds the assembled solid steel belt T-rail by itself, at 17 pounds.

LiftMaster says carton one holds the opener head, the 485LM battery, the L958W Smart Control Panel, two L993M three-button remote controls, the Protector System safety reversing sensors and the L979M wireless keyless entry system, with a carton weight of 25 pounds. The listing's own weight of 24.2 pounds is close to that figure.

So the accessories are there but the rail is not, and a rail is not optional on a belt drive opener. Confirm with the seller exactly what ships and treat a rail as a separate purchase. The listing's model number field reads 6690 where the title and every LiftMaster document read 6690L, and its mount type field says wall mount although LiftMaster's own documents describe a ceiling-mounted belt drive on a T-rail.

Which rail matches which door opening

LiftMaster publishes three rails against three door openings. The 7 foot rail is part 2777, with an installed length of 122.5 inches and a maximum opening of 7 feet 6 inches. The 8 foot rail is 2778, installed length 139 inches, maximum opening 8 feet 6 inches.

The 10 foot rail is part 2770, with an installed length of 163 inches and a maximum opening of 10 feet 6 inches. Measure the door height first and then the run of ceiling available, because the installed length is what has to fit.

LiftMaster also gives the headroom clearance required as 2 inches, and the opener head as 10 inches long, 19 inches wide and 7 inches high, with the width becoming 30 inches when both decorative doors are open. Leave room for that swing when planning the mounting position.

The specification block, in plain numbers

The motor is a 12 volt DC unit at 53 revolutions per minute with automatic thermal protection and permanent lubrication. LiftMaster markets it as a 1 and a quarter HPs motor, and its own footnote qualifies that: it is for comparison purposes only, with lift capacity similar to a 1 and a quarter horsepower AC motor, and DC motor lift capacity is not measured in horsepower.

Travel speed is 9 inches per second upward and 6.5 inches per second downward, so it opens faster than it closes. Power is 120 volts AC at 60 hertz with a 2.7 amp current rating, UL listed, on a 6 foot three-prong cord.

The mechanics are a steel chassis with T-rail and trolley, a full reinforced belt drive with 63 to 1 gear reduction and an adjustable door arm, auto-force adjustment for changing weather and environmental conditions, electronic limits, and a DC Wi-Fi logic board with a built-in surge suppressor whose replacement part LiftMaster names on the same sheet.

What 360 degrees actually means here

LiftMaster's product page calls this a 360 degree camera with adjustable wide angle and full night vision. The product guide is more precise about how that works: the camera sits on a built-in swivel mount, and the lens itself is a 130 degree wide angle that you point in whichever direction you need.

So it is one wide lens you can aim, not a lens that sees all the way round at once. LiftMaster's product page is where the 360 degree description appears; the product guide is where the 130 degree lens and the swivel mount appear, and neither document reconciles the two.

The lighting is where the 360 figure does apply. The product guide gives 2,000 lumens of integrated LED covering 360 degrees and describes it as motion-activated. Neither LiftMaster document read here states a service life for that assembly or names a replacement part for it.

Battery backup, and a warranty split into three tiers

The battery backup is built in, using LiftMaster's 485LM garage door opener battery, and the product guide puts it in carton one rather than treating it as an accessory. Neither LiftMaster source we read publishes a run time or a cycle count for it.

The warranty runs in three tiers rather than one. LiftMaster gives a lifetime term on the motor and the belt, five years on the LED and on parts, and one year on the battery, the camera and accessories.

That tiering is worth reading before buying. The battery, the camera and the accessories carry the shortest cover on the sheet at one year, the integrated LED and the parts sit at five years, and only the motor and the belt carry the lifetime term the marketing leads with.

Controls, radio range and who fits it

Two L993M three-button remotes come in the box, each able to operate up to three openers or myQ light accessories, and LiftMaster says the premium remote is backwards compatible with all LiftMaster openers made since January 1997. A L979M wireless keyless entry system is also in carton one, which LiftMaster says installs without additional wiring.

The L958W Smart Control Panel is the hub on the wall. LiftMaster says it programs remote controls, keypads and myQ accessories, carries a Maintenance Alert System and handles the Wi-Fi setup, displays time and temperature, and automatically activates the light when you enter the garage.

On radio, LiftMaster gives an operating range up to 1300 feet and an operating temperature from minus 40 to 150 degrees Fahrenheit, with Security plus 3.0 coding and a myQ radio on 902 to 928 MHz across 50 channels. HomeLink compatibility is version 4.0 or higher. The product guide heads the model built for you, installed by pros, so a dealer fitting is the expected route.
