A belt drive built around a 140-volt DC motor

The 3042-TKH is Genie's SilentMax 1000. Genie describes a 140-volt DC motor rated three-quarter HPc turning a belt inside an enclosed C-channel rail. The Amazon details block gives the same part number, 37281X, and lists horsepower as 0.75, so the two sources agree on identity and on the power rating.

The listing description adds that the DC motor has soft start and stop control for smoother travel. Genie's page describes SmartSet programming and HomeLink and Car2U compatibility as standard, and the manual describes the Safe-T-Beam reversing system.

Genie's page describes the C-channel rail as enclosed. The listing also claims flush-mounting for low headroom applications, a claim we did not find on Genie's page for this model, so verify your headroom against the assembly instructions.

The two sources give different opening speeds

Genie's product page for 3042-TKH states an opening speed of up to 7.5 inches per second. The Amazon product description for the same model says increased opening speeds of up to 9 inches per second. That is a real gap, not a rounding difference, and neither document explains the other, so treat 7.5 inches per second as the figure the maker publishes for this model number today.

Speed is adjustable in any case. The manual's speed control page, which applies to DC models, says three speed settings are available for sectional doors, with up and down travel set separately to reduce wear on heavier doors.

The manual also cautions that actual travel speed is affected by door weight and balance and by the condition of door components and tracks. After changing a speed setting it tells you to repeat the safety contact reverse test.

Seven-foot doors out of the box, eight with kit 37302R

Genie states the motor will operate almost any residential garage door up to seven feet high out of the box, or up to eight feet with an extension kit sold separately as part number 37302R. The Amazon coverage field repeats the seven-foot figure and the separate extension kit, so both sources agree here.

Measure before you order. Genie prints the kit number 37302R on this model's own product page, so order by that number rather than by a kit listed for another Genie opener or rail type.

The manual's cover states this opener is for sectional or one-piece residential doors only, and it warns against using photocells from other manufacturers or other openers with this unit. The supplied Safe-T-Beam pair is the only safety sensor set the manual sanctions.

What is in the box, and a remote count Genie contradicts itself on

Both sources agree on the accessory list: two pre-programmed remotes, a wireless keypad that opens the door with a personal PIN, and a multi-function wall console with a vacation lock and an independent light control button, plus the Safe-T-Beam sensors, hardware and instructions.

The button count on those remotes is stated two ways on Genie's own page. Its descriptive paragraph says two pre-programmed three-button remotes, while its own bullet list says two preprogrammed two-button remotes. The Amazon title and included-components field both say three-button. Genie's page disagrees with itself here, so confirm with the seller if the third button matters to you.

Car integration is a stated strength. Genie says this opener works out of the box with HomeLink and Car2U built-in car remote systems without any additional hardware such as bridges or repeaters, and the manual includes a programming page for vehicle systems.

No battery backup, so California is out, and bulbs are extra

Genie's page carries a notice that as of 1 July 2019 this item cannot be shipped to California under Senate Bill No. 969, and that orders with a California address will be cancelled because California requires an opener with a battery backup included. The Amazon description says the same thing and points buyers to Genie's battery backup range.

Lighting is two bulbs, not supplied. The listing describes a two-bulb system with space for two 100-watt bulbs, and the manual's bulb page caps them at 100 watts maximum in incandescent, CFL or LED equivalent, in A19 size with no short neck. It warns that standard LED bulbs may reduce remote range.

The listing's battery field says four CR2 batteries are required and included, while the manual specifies CR2032 coin cells for the remotes. Check what is actually fitted before you buy spares, because those two cell types are not interchangeable.

Monthly checks, and a warranty both sources state identically

The manual's maintenance table is monthly for most items: a contact reverse test, lubricating rollers and hinges with a light general-purpose grease, a Safe-T-Beam wiring and lens check, and a door balance test. The yearly screw-drive lubrication line in that table does not apply to a belt drive like this one.

The door balance test is the one to take seriously. Follow the manual's procedure for it, and if the door opens or closes rapidly when released the manual tells you to contact a trained door system technician for the springs rather than adjusting them yourself. Spring work is not a homeowner job in any of the Genie documents we read.

On warranty the two sources match exactly. Genie's page and the Amazon warranty field both state a limited lifetime motor and gearbox warranty, fifteen years on the belt, five years on parts and one year on accessories. The listing-supplied manual contains no warranty text, so ask Genie for the written terms, including what limited lifetime means for a later owner of your home.
