There is no rail: this opener bolts to the torsion bar
The RJO20 is a wall mount opener. Instead of a powerhead in the middle of the ceiling driving a rail, it mounts on the wall beside the door and turns the door's torsion bar directly. The manual's cover states it is for residential use and for installation on sectional doors with torsion assemblies only.
That means the usual questions about belt versus chain, rail length and an eight-foot extension kit do not apply here. It also means the ceiling above the door stays clear of a powerhead and rail. Amazon's own comparison table describes the drive as a direct drive DC motor.
Neither Chamberlain's page for RJO20 nor the manual we read states a horsepower or HPc rating for that motor. If you want a power figure to compare against a ceiling opener, this product does not publish one, and we are not going to estimate one for you.
Your door and hardware have to pass a specific checklist
The manual's compatibility list is strict, and a door that misses any item on it is not a fit for this opener. The door must be a standard sectional up to 14 feet high and up to 18 feet wide, but no more than 180 square feet in total area, and high lift is allowed up to 54 inches.
The torsion hardware matters just as much. The torsion bar must be one inch in diameter, extend at least one and a half inches past the bearing plate, sit at least three inches from the ceiling and two and a half inches from the mounting wall, with at least eight and a half inches between the end of the bar and the side wall. Reverse wound drums are not compatible, drums should be four to six inches across, and smaller three to 3.9 inch drums are limited to doors up to 430 pounds.
The manual also rules out doors with extension springs and low headroom tracks with an outside pickup drum, and requires a 120 VAC 60 Hz outlet within six feet of the opener. It tells you to call a trained door systems technician if the bar or drums do not meet those requirements.
What the carton holds, and the keypad the manual does not list
The manual's carton inventory lists the opener, a three-button premium remote control model 953ESTD with a visor clip, the myQ Control Panel door control model 041A7928-3, the Protector System safety reversing sensors and brackets, a power door lock, a cable tension monitor, a remote light, a Chamberlain Internet Gateway, the mounting bracket, collar and hardware.
The Amazon included-components field lists a wireless keypad as well, and the comparison table marks battery backup protection for this model. The manual's carton inventory shows neither a keypad nor a battery backup, and Chamberlain's page for RJO20 carries a California notice that openers without battery backup cannot be sold or installed there on or after 1 July 2019. Confirm both items with the seller rather than assuming.
Two of the included parts are conditions of operation. The manual says the door will not close at all unless both the Protector System and the cable tension monitor are connected and properly aligned.
myQ, the gateway, and the HomeLink repeater question
The listing says the myQ app includes core features that let you control the door, get status notifications and set schedules. The manual's connectivity page describes registering a Chamberlain Internet Gateway to an account at myChamberlain.com and pairing it to the myQ Control Panel.
The manual's cover also states this opener is only compatible with myQ accessories, so third-party remotes and keypads are out. Neither the manual pages we read nor Chamberlain's page for this model mentions a subscription fee for the app features they describe, but they also do not say the app is free forever.
HomeLink needs a caveat. The manual says a repeater kit is required for all 2006 and older vehicles and must be bought by the homeowner, and that only one repeater is needed per home. Check your vehicle year before counting on in-car control.
Unattended closing, the light, and the monthly checks
The quick start guide is explicit that the Timer-to-Close feature and the myQ app both count as unattended close, and that unattended close is for sectional doors only. The control panel offers one, five or ten minute timers.
Lighting is not in the opener head the way it is on a ceiling unit. A separate remote light plugs into an outlet and is triggered by the opener, and the control panel has its own motion sensor for the lights.
Upkeep is light but not zero. Once a month the manual wants you to operate the door by hand and check balance, confirm it opens and closes fully, and repeat the safety reverse test. Once a year, oil the door rollers, bearings and hinges. It states the opener itself needs no additional lubrication and that you should not grease the door tracks. Remotes use 3V CR2032 coin cells.
Discontinued by Chamberlain, and a warranty field that does not fit
Chamberlain's own product page for RJO20 is headed discontinued and shows only replacement parts. Those parts are still catalogued and named, including the RJO 2.0 receiver logic board 041DJ002MC, motor kit 041A6095, transformer 041C0168, cable tension monitor kit 041A6104 and power door lock kit 041A6102, and the English owner's manual and quick start guide are still published there.
A discontinued model is not automatically a bad buy, but it changes the calculation. Weigh the parts list above against how long you expect to keep the opener, and check the seller and condition of the offer you are looking at, because the warranty below runs from the date of purchase by the first retail purchaser.
The manual's warranty table is short: five years on parts, lifetime on the motor, one year on accessories, for the first retail purchaser and for the residence where it was first installed. The listing's warranty field repeats those three but adds a lifetime belt term, and this opener drives the torsion bar with no belt named in either Chamberlain document we read. The warranty excludes labor for reinstalling a repaired unit, consumables such as remote batteries and bulbs, non-residential installs, and anything to do with the door, its springs, rollers, alignment or hinges.
