Which Genie model this actually is
The listing calls this B6172H, and we found no Genie page using that exact string. What does match is the manufacturer part number in the listing's details block, 41410V, which is the SKU printed on Genie's own product page for the 6172H-BO wall mount opener with battery backup.
Genie sells several close relatives. Its 6172H-B page carries a different SKU, 41410R, with UPC 050049022761, and its title distinguishes the variant by its battery backup and Wi-Fi. Use the part number 41410V rather than the model string when you order anything.
The two Genie pages also disagree about how tall the unit is. The 6172H-B page and the Amazon bullet both say 6.8 inches wide, 12 inches tall and 9 inches deep, while the 6172H-BO page says 6.8 wide, 14.5 tall and 9 deep. Measure your clearance against the larger figure to be safe.
A jackshaft opener rated for heavy, tall doors
There is no rail. The opener bolts to the side of the door's torsion spring tube, and both Genie pages describe it as a direct-drive side-mount design. Genie specifies a 24-volt DC motor.
Genie states it lifts residential doors up to 850 pounds and handles standard, high lift and vertical lift doors up to 14 feet tall. The listing adds limits Genie's pages do not repeat: a maximum of 180 square feet of door, up to 18 feet wide, and high lift up to 84 inches.
If your drums are larger than four inches or your door is vertical lift, the manual requires you to change the opener's drum selection setting, which ships pre-programmed for four-inch standard lift drums. It warns that if you alter that setting afterwards, the whole force profile sequence has to be run again.
The spring types it will not work with
The manual's cover is the narrowest statement: use this opener only with a residential sectional door with front torsion springs. It also says not to use photocells from other manufacturers or other openers with it, so the supplied Safe-T-Beam pair is the only safety sensor set sanctioned.
Genie's two product pages list exclusions in different words. The 6172H-B page says it is not compatible with reverse wound springs, low headroom setups, extension springs or one-piece doors. The 6172H-BO page says not compatible with reverse-wound, outside pickup spring cables, or rear-mounted torsion springs. Treat the union of all three statements as the real limit and check your springs before buying.
The manual's parts list includes a TorqueMaster adapter kit and an alternate mounting kit. Neither Genie page we read says which door setups call for them, so ask Genie about your specific spring system before ordering.
Aladdin Connect, the door lock and a light that pairs wirelessly
Aladdin Connect Wi-Fi is built in according to both Genie pages. The listing lists Amazon Alexa, Google Assistant and SmartThings among supported platforms and adds Amazon In-Garage Delivery and Genie's BenchSentry porch boxes. Neither Genie page nor the manual pages we read mentions a subscription for these features.
The accessory list is the part that separates this from a plain opener: a three-button pre-programmed remote, a wireless wall console, a wireless LED light fixture and an automatic door lock that secures the door once it closes. The lock, console and light all appear as individually ordered service parts in the manual.
The light is a separate plug-in fixture rather than bulbs in a powerhead. The manual treats it as a portable luminaire with a polarized plug, tells you never to use it with an extension cord unless the plug fully inserts, and explains that it auto-pairs with the opener on power-up and has a clear and re-pair procedure.
Power, wiring and the outlet distance the sources disagree on
Both Genie pages and the listing say installation requires a standard outlet within six feet of the opener. The manual states it differently: if a 115V outlet is not available within five feet from the bottom of the opener once mounted, you may use the Alternate Low Voltage Power Kit, which is a separate part. Plan against the five-foot figure.
Permanent wiring is not a do-it-yourself step. The manual's special installation section says permanent wiring should be completed by a trained electrician only, requires all connections inside the chassis with at least three inches of new supply wire, and notes that conduit, fittings and wire nuts are not provided and local code governs.
Mounting heights follow the usual rules: install the opener seven feet or more above the floor where possible, put the emergency release within reach but at least six feet up, and locate the wall control within sight of the door and at least five feet from the floor.
Backup battery, monthly checks, and the warranty nobody but the listing states
The battery backup is included and Genie says it makes the opener compliant with California SB-969. The manual specifies a 12-volt, 5Ah sealed lead-acid battery, Genie part 111658.0002.S, asks for 24 to 48 hours of charging before you test it, notes the opener runs slower on battery, and says you cannot set limits or do any programming on battery power alone.
Maintenance is monthly across the board: a contact reverse test, lubricating rollers and hinges with a light general-purpose grease, a Safe-T-Beam wiring and lens check, a door balance test and a battery backup test. The manual prints CR2232 as the remote's coin cell and 2 AAA cells for the wireless wall console, so check the cell in your own remote before buying spares.
On warranty only one source speaks. The listing's field states a limited 15-year motor warranty and a limited 5-year parts warranty. Neither Genie product page we read nor the owner's manual states any warranty term for this opener, so get those periods and their conditions confirmed by Genie in writing before you rely on them.
