Seven-foot sectional doors outside California with no need for an app

Genie's Chain Drive 550 puts a half-HPc DC motor on a factory-assembled chain and a five-piece rail, and adds a keypad, wall console and safety beams. It has no Wi-Fi and no battery backup, cannot ship to California, and covers parts for one year against ten on the motor.

The listing title and the listing's own details give two model numbers

The Amazon title calls this Model 2035-TKO, while the listing's own expanded details block says Model Number 2035-TKV with manufacturer part number 38957R and UPC 050049020453. Those two suffixes are not the same string, and a buyer searching for parts later needs the right one.

Genie's own catalogue settles it. Genie's product page for 2035-TKV carries exactly the same part number, 38957R, and exactly the same UPC, 050049020453, as the listing's details block. We found no Genie page for a 2035-TKO, so treat 2035-TKV as the model and the title as the outlier.

Genie's page adds one more naming wrinkle: its heading says Chain Drive 550 while the descriptive paragraph underneath repeatedly calls the same product the ChainMax. Use the model number rather than the marketing name when ordering anything for this opener.

Half an HPc on a chain, rated to seven feet and 500 pounds

Genie describes a lightweight DC motor rated half an HPc with GenieSense monitoring, driving a chain on a five-piece rail that snaps together without added hardware. The listing adds that the chain arrives factory pre-assembled.

The stated door limit is residential sectional doors up to seven feet high and 500 pounds in weight. For an eight-foot door Genie names extension kit part number 39027R, sold separately, and the family manual's parts pages list a rail extension kit for chain drive alongside a separate one for belt drive.

The listing's product description also credits the DC motor with soft starts and stops. Genie's page for this model does not repeat that claim in those words, so weigh it as listing copy rather than a published specification.

The remote count is stated two ways on Genie's own page

Both sources agree the box holds the opener, two pre-programmed remotes, a wireless keypad for PIN entry, a multi-function wall console with a vacation lock and light control button, the Safe-T-Beam safety sensors, hardware, batteries and printed instructions.

The button count does not agree with itself. Genie's descriptive paragraph says two pre-programmed three-button remotes, while Genie's own bullet list on the same page says two preprogrammed two-button remotes. The Amazon title, bullets and details field all say three-button. Confirm with the seller if the extra button matters to you.

Neither Genie's page nor the listing says whether light bulbs are supplied. The family manual caps bulbs at 60 watts maximum in incandescent, CFL or LED equivalent, in A19 size with no short neck, and warns that ordinary LED bulbs may reduce remote range, so budget for bulbs that meet those limits.

No battery backup, which rules out California

Genie's page carries the notice that as of 1 July 2019 this item cannot be shipped to California under Senate Bill No. 969, and that orders with a California shipping address will be cancelled because that state requires a battery backup to be included. Nothing in the listing's included-components field shows a backup either.

If you are outside California and an outage matters to you, the manual's emergency release is the fallback for opening the door by hand. Read that procedure in the manual before you need it, and note the manual asks for the release to be mounted at least six feet above the floor.

Car integration is a stated strength here. Genie says the opener works with HomeLink and Car2U out of the box with no additional hardware such as bridges or repeaters, and the manual devotes a page to programming both systems.

Safety hardware is not optional, and the upkeep is monthly

The manual's cover states this opener is for residential sectional overhead doors only and that the included Safe-T-Beam system must be installed before the door will close, with no other brand or type substituted. Safe-T-Reverse is described as stopping and reversing a closing door within two seconds of contact with an object.

The wall console has a Sure-Lock function that blocks the powerhead from responding to the console or a remote while the door is closed, and an independent light button. The automatic lighting turns on when the door is activated and switches off four minutes later.

Maintenance is listed as monthly: a contact reverse test, lubricating door rollers and hinges, a Safe-T-Beam check, and a door balance test, with chain tension inspected as needed. If the door moves quickly when released halfway, the manual sends you to a trained door system technician for the springs.

Ten years on the motor, and what the fine print narrows

Here the three sources line up. Genie's page states a ten-year motor and gearbox warranty with five years on the chain and one year on parts and accessories, the listing's warranty field says the same, and the family manual's warranty page names model 2035 and gives ten years on motor and gearbox, five years on chain for chain drive products, one year on core unit parts and one year on accessories and other parts.

The manual defines core unit as the power head, wired wall control, Safe-T-Beam system, J-Arm and rail, which for this model is a one-year term, while the same warranty page gives five years of core unit cover to models 3033, 3035, 3053, 3055, 7033, 7035, 7053 and 7055. Read that line before deciding.

The conditions are narrow. The warranty runs to the original purchaser only, is not transferable, applies to residential installs in the country of purchase, and excludes labor charges entirely. It also excludes batteries, use of an extension cord, missing or damaged parts from clearance or open-box sales, and any repair or maintenance to the door itself.
