A containment collar, not a tracker
The Dogtra GPS Fence is a GPS collar that keeps a dog inside a virtual boundary you set in Dogtra's app. Dogtra's page says it focuses on boundary training without live tracking, and lists no live tracking and no real-time notifications among its key features. The listing also describes it as containment only, with no live tracking or notifications.
The listing's item model number is GF10UC. That code does not appear on Dogtra's GPS Fence page or in the Owner's Manual we read, but Dogtra's own page carries a Shop on Amazon link to this exact listing, so we treat the listing as Dogtra's GPS Fence. Use the product name rather than GF10UC if you contact Dogtra.
Dogtra's page says no monthly fees and no installation, and the listing says no digging, wires, Wi-Fi or data. Both say the phone is needed only for setup, and the manual says the app is not required to operate the collar after sync. Dogtra's package list names the collar, a 5mm-to-USB charging cable, a quick start manual and a flag training manual; the manual says power adapters are not included, and the listing says training flags are sold separately.
Property size and where it works
Dogtra's page, the listing and the manual all require at least three-quarters of an acre, and say the collar is for outdoor use only. The manual warns that indoors the device may misinterpret the dog's location and apply unintended corrections, and says to remove the collar whenever the dog goes inside.
The manual says GPS accuracy varies and needs a clear view of the sky, and it lists obstructions that affect it. It names areas near buildings over three stories, indoor use, dense forest and areas near large bodies of water as environments to avoid.
It also describes the system as a virtual training device, not a physical fence, and asks for at least 10 to 15 feet between the boundary and any road or highway. The manual lists preparation and verification checks to carry out before use, including walking the perimeter; read that section in full.
How the fence is built
The listing describes layered boundaries: a warning zone, a primary fence and two backup fences, and the manual describes the backup fences as two additional perimeters. Dogtra's page gives 30 custom boundaries, and the listing says up to 30 fences can be saved.
According to the manual, a custom fence can have up to 25 posts, and a circular fence can range from 13 yards to 2.5 miles in diameter. It also says not to place a boundary over water and not to let a fence overlap buildings.
The listing says corrections can be tone, vibration or stimulation, with 100 levels, and Dogtra's page says the warning zone can use tone, vibration or correction. Dogtra's page also describes a Come Home Sequence with warnings and return tones, and says no corrections are applied while the dog is returning.
Which dogs it fits: two different minimums
Dogtra's page and the listing say the collar is for dogs of 15 pounds and up with a neck of at least 10 inches, and the listing adds a 10 to 30 inch neck range on a 3/4 inch strap and a minimum age of 6 months. The manual's main-features page instead says for dogs as small as 10 pounds.
We cannot tell from these documents which minimum weight Dogtra intends. If your dog weighs between 10 and 15 pounds, ask Dogtra to confirm before buying.
Dogtra's specs give the collar as 7 by 1.63 by 1.42 inches and 6.9 ounces, with a 3/4 by 32 inch strap. The manual says not to leave the collar on for more than 6 to 8 hours at a time, to reposition the contact points every few hours, and to remove it after 8 hours of use.
More than one dog, and the phone you need
Dogtra's page lists pair up to 3 dogs as a key feature and says a second collar is required for each additional dog, while its specifications block says single device pairing. The listing says up to three dogs can share the same fence profile through the app. Confirm the arrangement with Dogtra if you plan to contain more than one dog.
The manual requires iOS 14 or later on iPhone 8 or newer, or Android 7.0 or later, with Bluetooth 5.0 or above, and Dogtra's page gives the same iOS, Android and Bluetooth minimums. The listing asks you to keep both the app and the collar firmware updated.
The collar is rated IPX9K by the listing and by the manual's features page. The manual adds that the charger's power plug and cord are not waterproof.
Charging and warranty
The manual says the collar uses a lithium polymer battery and needs a full 2-hour initial charge before first use. It says charging takes about 3 hours or more, and that the unit should be fully charged before storage of 3 months or more.
The listing says the battery lasts all day; neither Dogtra's page nor the manual sections we read give a runtime in hours.
The manual's warranty gives one year from purchase for the original purchaser who bought from a Dogtra authorized dealer and has proof of purchase. It excludes products bought from non-authorized dealers or outside the US or Canada, and the listing's warranty field says 1-Year Limited Warranty.
