Fit and limits
Strengths
- Garmin publishes battery life at three update rates, not just a headline
- User-replaceable battery, with an extended pack sold separately
- Radio link to the handheld, with no subscription described
Caveats
- Collar only: a compatible Garmin handheld must be bought separately
- At the 2.5 second update rate the standard pack gives only 25 hours
- Listing says plastic contact points and 1.3 oz; Garmin says metal and 9.26 oz
A collar that needs a Garmin handheld
The Alpha TT 25 is a GPS dog collar with both tracking and training functions, and this listing is the collar alone. The listing says it pairs with Garmin dog tracking handhelds such as the Alpha and the Pro 550 Plus, both sold separately, and its bullets tie the fastest tracking updates to a compatible handheld.
Garmin's In the Box list names the Alpha TT 25 dog collar device, a charging clip, a USB-C cable, short and long metal contact points with a wrench, and documentation. The listing's components row adds a 1 inch orange collar strap and describes the contact points as plastic, which does not match Garmin's word metal.
The link between collar and handheld is radio on the MURS band, per Garmin's specs, and neither the Garmin pages we read nor the listing describes a subscription for the collar.
Battery life depends on the update rate you pick
Garmin's specs give the included standard battery pack up to 68 hours using the dynamic update rate, which Garmin marks as the default. At a fixed 2.5 second update rate the figure drops to up to 25 hours, and at a 2 minute rate it rises to up to 84 hours.
An extended battery pack, sold separately, doubles those figures: up to 136 hours on the dynamic rate, 50 hours at 2.5 seconds and 168 hours at 2 minutes. The listing quotes only the dynamic-rate figures of 68 and 136 hours.
The manual's footnotes tie the battery to specific Garmin part numbers: the standard battery is only for use with part 361-00035-16 and the extended battery box with part 361-00148-00. Both packs are user-replaceable, according to Garmin and the listing.
Range, fit and weight
Garmin gives a tracking and training range of up to 9 miles, and the manual's specification gives a VHF radio range of up to 14.48 kilometres, or 9 miles, with an ANT wireless range of up to 10 metres. The listing adds updates as frequent as every 2.5 seconds when used with a compatible handheld.
The collar measures 3.2 by 1.8 by 1.4 inches. Garmin gives 6.75 ounces for the transmitter and antenna without the collar strap and 9.26 ounces in total with it. The listing's item-weight field says 1.3 ounces, which does not match Garmin's figures.
Garmin lists collar compatibility up to 1 inch wide, and the listing describes a user-replaceable flex band and a design sized for large and small breeds. Neither Garmin document we read gives a minimum neck size or dog weight.
Temperatures, water and positioning
The manual rates the collar at 1 ATM, which it describes as withstanding pressure equivalent to a depth of 10 metres, and Garmin's product specs agree at 1 ATM, or 10 metres. The operating range is minus 20 to 60 degrees Celsius, or minus 4 to 140 Fahrenheit.
Charging is limited to 0 to 40 degrees Celsius, or 32 to 104 Fahrenheit, and storage to minus 20 to 70 degrees Celsius, or minus 4 to 158 Fahrenheit, according to the manual's specification page.
Garmin lists GPS and Galileo with a high-sensitivity receiver. The collar also carries a multicolour LED beacon that the listing says can show yellow, magenta, cyan, white, green, red or blue.
Modes, updates and training features
Garmin's specs list a sleep mode, for Alpha products only, and a rescue mode. The listing says the collar installs software updates automatically over Wi-Fi when it is charging and connected to your network, and Garmin's specs list Wi-Fi software updates on the same terms.
Training features are stimulation, vibration and tone, per Garmin's specs; the listing describes 18 levels of continuous or momentary stimulation plus audible tone and vibration, used through a compatible handheld. We do not summarise how to train with stimulation.
Garmin's support page for 010-02447-20 lists an Important Safety and Product Information document, which we did not read. Read it, and the handheld's training guidance, before fitting the collar.
Warranty
The listing's warranty field says 1 year limited warranty. We did not read Garmin's own warranty terms for this collar, so we cannot add conditions to that line.
We read only the collar specification page of Garmin's web manual, so any warranty wording elsewhere in that manual is not reflected here. Garmin's support page for part 010-02447-20 is where its manuals and safety document are listed.
If the contact points in the box are plastic rather than the metal Garmin lists, contact Garmin before use, since the two sources describe them differently.
