Identity, and a light fixture that both kit lists forget

Genie's own store page and the listing agree on model 6072H-B and on SKU or part number 41410X, and the listing adds UPC 050049023355. Both give the unit as 6.8 inches wide, 14.5 inches tall and 9 inches deep, and both call for a standard outlet within 6 feet.

The kit lists are where they wobble. Genie's what's included line reads a pre-programmed three-button remote, the battery backup, a wireless wall console and an automatic door lock. The listing's included components field is the same four items, with a stray double comma where something appears to have been deleted.

Yet both sources describe a light elsewhere on the same page. Genie's own opening paragraph says the opener includes accessories like a wireless wall console, LED light and remote garage door lock, and the listing description names a Bluetooth LED light. Neither kit list includes it, so ask the seller in writing whether a light fixture is in the carton.

What the battery backup actually does

The backup is what separates this version from the plain 6072H-O. Genie's page and the listing both say it is included, and both note that battery backup is required in California, where state law SB-969 applies to all installed garage door openers.

The manual sets expectations the store page does not. It recommends charging the backup for 24 to 48 hours before testing it and says the opener may not run from the backup until the battery is fully charged. On battery power the opener runs at a slower speed than normal.

One restriction is easy to trip over during installation: AC power must be present to set limits, and the manual says not to attempt to set limits or any other programming step from battery power only. The backup must go in a dry location, is not intended for outdoor use, and takes a 12 volt 5 amp-hour sealed lead-acid replacement cell under a Genie part number.

Aladdin Connect is a separate purchase here

Genie's store page carries a one-line footnote under the specification list saying Aladdin Connect is sold separately for this model. Neither the listing nor the store page claims Wi-Fi, an app or smart home platform support in the box, so treat this as an opener with a backup rather than a smart opener.

If you do plan to add it later, read the manual's Aladdin Connect page first. It carries a notice that the feature will not operate unless the light fixture is installed and operational, and the light fixture is exactly the item missing from both kit lists for this model.

The manual also says to check Wi-Fi before any setup, by holding a phone near the opener and reading the signal meter, and to move the router closer or install a range extender if the signal is very weak or nonexistent. It notes the system is designed for unattended operation and the door could move unexpectedly.

The measurements that decide whether it fits at all

Genie publishes a pre-install sheet whose heading names models 6072 and 6172, and it lists the checks to make before ordering. The opener fits torsion shafts, solid or tubular, of 1 inch diameter with or without a keyway.

The torsion bar centreline must sit between 2.5 and 6 inches from the wall and at least 2.25 inches from the ceiling. The shaft must protrude no less than 2.25 inches from the bearing plate, and there must be at least 7 inches between the end of the torsion shaft to the side wall. The sheet says the headroom required is less than the smallest standard drum.

The size envelope is the same across Genie's documents: residential sectional doors up to 850 pounds balanced weight, up to 18 feet wide, up to 14 feet tall and not exceeding 180 square feet. The installation sheet adds that only torsion springs with a 1 inch bar, solid or hollow 14 or 16 gauge tubular steel, are supported.

What the wall behind it has to be, and the doors ruled out

A detail worth checking before the box arrives: the installation sheet says the opener must be mounted to garage framing material and must not be installed to particle board or drywall. It adds that its guidance assumes standard wood framing and bracing, that additional bracing may be needed, and that hardware for masonry or steel construction is not provided.

The door exclusions are firm. Genie's pre-install sheet lists one-piece doors, doors with extension springs and low headroom with outside pickup as unsupported, and the installation sheet repeats that the opener is not compatible with low headroom outside hook-up, meaning reverse wound drums.

The supported side covers standard radius track, low headroom with a front mount spring on inside pickup only, high lift up to 84 inches and vertical lift, each with the drum series Genie names. Alternate mounting kits exist for TorqueMaster and indirect chain couple installations.

Wall console controls, warranty and the monthly list

The wireless wall console does more than open the door. The installation sheet describes three buttons: a door button that runs the opener, a delay button that adds a delay before the door operates and can be pressed up to three times for 10, 22 or 30 seconds, and a light button that overrides the opener's automatic timed light function.

Warranty rests on the listing. It states a 5 year parts warranty and a limited 15 year motor warranty, while Genie's store page for this model and the owner's manual state no term at all. Get those figures confirmed in writing before you buy.

The manual's maintenance schedule is monthly throughout: contact reverse test, lubricating rollers and hinges, a Safe-T-Beam check with the lenses cleaned, a door balance check and a battery backup test. Where the door fails that balance check, the manual says to contact a trained door system technician to have the springs serviced.
