Identity, size and what is in the box
Genie's own store page and the listing agree on the model, 6172H-O, and on what it is: a jackshaft opener that mounts to the side of the door's torsion spring rather than hanging from a ceiling rail. Genie gives UPC 050049023706 and SKU 41410RR.
One field does not match. The listing's part number field reads 410410RR while Genie's SKU is 41410RR, a digit shorter. Quote Genie's SKU if you are ordering parts or checking a serial number with support, and ask the seller which unit the listing is actually shipping.
The kit is listed the same way by both sources: a three-button pre-programmed remote, a wireless wall console, a wireless LED light, the Aladdin Connect Wi-Fi technology built in, and an automatic door lock. No battery backup appears in either list. Genie gives the unit as 6.8 inches wide, 12 inches tall and 9 inches deep.
Aladdin Connect will not work without the light fixture
The notice is printed in Genie's manual on the Aladdin Connect programming page: the Aladdin Connect feature will not operate unless the light fixture is installed and operational. The wireless LED light is not an optional extra on this opener, it is part of the smart system.
Before setup the manual asks you to check signal. It says to hold a smartphone or other mobile device near the garage door opener and read the Wi-Fi meter, and if the signal is very weak or nonexistent, to move the router closer to the garage or install a Wi-Fi range extender.
What the app gives you is set out plainly. Genie says it can operate up to 20 openers or controllers, allows up to 20 users on an account, sends notifications any time the door is operated from the app, wall console or remote, shows usage reports with dates and times and who operated the door, and lets you set rules to close a chosen door at set times. The manual also states that the system is designed for unattended operation and the door could move unexpectedly.
The measurements that decide whether it fits
Genie publishes a dedicated pre-install sheet covering models 6072 and 6172, and it is the thing to read before ordering. It says critical measurements must be taken to ensure this opener will fit the intended door, and then names them.
The opener fits torsion shafts, solid or tubular, of 1 inch diameter with or without a keyway. The torsion bar centreline must sit between 2.5 and 6 inches from the wall and at least 2.25 inches from the ceiling. The shaft must protrude no less than 2.25 inches from the bearing plate, and there must be at least 7 inches from the end of the torsion shaft to the side wall.
The size envelope is consistent across Genie's documents: residential sectional doors up to 850 pounds, up to 18 feet wide, up to 14 feet tall and not more than 180 square feet. Genie's store page adds the motor figure, a 24 volt DC unit, and says the opener can be installed left or right-hand.
High lift: two different ceilings in the same set of sources
Both the listing and Genie's store page say this opener works on standard, high lift and vertical lift doors up to 14 feet tall, so far so consistent. The disagreement is over how much high lift it tolerates.
Genie's pre-install sheet for models 6072 and 6172 prints high lift up to 84 inches. The listing's own product description says the opener works on high lift garage doors up to 54 inches of high lift. That is a thirty inch gap between two documents describing the same model, and neither explains itself.
If your door has any high lift at all, this is the number to settle in writing before you buy. Measure your high lift, then ask Genie which figure applies to the 6172H-O rather than assuming the larger one.
Doors Genie rules out, and the outlet question
Genie's store page lists the exclusions in one line: not compatible with reverse wound springs, low headroom setups, extension springs, or one-piece doors. The pre-install sheet words it as three unsupported configurations, one-piece doors, doors with extension springs, and low headroom with outside pickup, and supports low headroom only with a front mount spring on inside pickup.
The supported list is standard radius track, low headroom front mount spring with inside pickup, high lift and vertical lift. The manual's cover restricts the opener to a residential sectional door with front torsion springs and says not to use photocells from other manufacturers or other openers.
On power, the two Genie sources disagree slightly. The store page and the listing both say a standard outlet within 6 feet, while the pre-install sheet says a standard 115 volt AC grounded outlet within 5.5 feet of the bottom of the opener. Measure to the shorter figure, and ask Genie what the options are if no outlet reaches.
Drum settings, batteries, warranty and the monthly list
One setting catches people out. The manual says drum selection is pre-programmed at the factory for 4 inch standard lift drums and must be changed for standard or high lift drums larger than 4 inches and for vertical lift doors, and it warns that altering the drum selection means the force profile sequence has to be performed again.
The battery information does not line up either. The listing's battery fields say three AAA cells are required and included, of lithium manganese dioxide type, while the manual says the wall console takes two AAA cells and prints the three-button remote's cell as a CR2232. Check what is actually in your box before buying spares.
Warranty rests on the listing alone: it states a limited 15 year motor and limited 5 year parts warranty, and neither Genie's store page nor the manual read here states any term. The manual's maintenance schedule is monthly throughout, and on an unbalanced door it tells you to contact a trained door system technician to have the springs serviced.
