What it is, and what the carton actually holds
This is a jackshaft opener that mounts on the wall beside the door and drives the torsion bar, so nothing hangs from the ceiling. LiftMaster's own product page and the listing agree on that, and the listing adds that this model replaces an earlier wall mount unit.
The manual's carton inventory is the definitive kit list, and it is generous: the opener itself, a Smart Control Panel model 880LMW, a 893MAX three-button premium remote with visor clip, an automatic garage door lock model 841LM, a myQ Remote LED Light model 827LM with its hardware, battery model 485LM, the Protector System safety reversing sensors with brackets, a mounting bracket, a collar with set screws, the emergency release rope and handle, and the fixings.
Worth a note: the product guide's carton contents list on its last page leaves the 485LM battery out, while the same guide's in the box page, LiftMaster's product page and the manual's inventory all include it. Check the box against the manual rather than the guide's shipping line.
The doors and drums LiftMaster says it fits
The manual's preparation page is the buying filter. The opener works on doors that use a torsion bar and springs, and the torsion bar must be 1 inch in diameter. It is explicitly not compatible with reverse wound drums.
On drums, LiftMaster lists standard lift sectional doors using 4 to 6 inch diameter drums, 4 to 6 inch straight drums, and 3 to 3.9 inch drums only on doors up to 430 pounds. High lift is allowed up to 54 inches, using 8 inch diameter taper drums, and vertical lift sectional doors need 8 inch diameter full taper drums.
The size envelope is a maximum door height of 14 feet, a maximum width of 18 feet and a maximum door weight of 850 pounds. The listing adds that the opener is not compatible with roll up doors, low headroom track or a Wayne Dalton TorqueMaster system and must have a front mount torsion bar; those specific exclusions appear on the listing rather than in the LiftMaster documents read here, so confirm them with a dealer.
Five clearances to measure before you order
LiftMaster sets out the space requirements as lettered items, and a wall mount opener either fits the door it is going on or it does not. There must be a minimum of 2.5 inches between the wall and the centre of the torsion bar, and a minimum of 3 inches between the ceiling and the centre of the torsion bar.
There must be at least 8.5 inches between the side wall or any obstruction and the end of the torsion bar, and the torsion bar must extend at least 1.5 inches past the bearing, which LiftMaster notes may vary with your installation. An electric outlet is required within 6 feet of the installation area, and if there is not one, the manual says to contact a qualified electrician.
Two more checks close it out. The gap between the floor and the bottom of the door must not exceed a quarter of an inch or the safety reversal system may not work properly. And LiftMaster's note says the torsion bar must show no noticeable movement up, down, left or right as the door is raised and lowered, warning that uncorrected movement greatly reduces the opener's life.
The specification block, in plain numbers
The motor is a medium-duty 12 volt DC unit with automatic thermal protection and permanent lubrication, driving an internal chain and sprocket mechanism with 63 to 1 gear reduction inside a steel chassis under a plastic cover. Lift capacity is given as up to 850 pounds.
Travel speed is 8.5 inches per second upward and 7.6 inches per second downward. Power is 120 volts AC at 60 hertz with a 1.5 amp current rating, UL listed, on a 6 foot three-prong cord. The opener head measures 22 inches long, 7.25 inches wide and 7.5 inches high.
The headline change LiftMaster makes for this model is the removal of a part. Its product guide leads with no more cable tension monitor, which it says makes installation faster and easier. The owner's manual still mentions a cable tension monitor in one planning line about extension brackets, so the two documents are not perfectly aligned on that point.
Light, lock, battery and the close timer
Because there is no powerhead over the door, the light is separate. The 827LM myQ Remote LED Light is rated at 1,500 lumens, operates automatically with the opener and works with the myQ app, and LiftMaster says up to sixteen of them can be added to one system.
The 841LM automatic garage door lock deadbolts the door every time it closes, and the manual carries one compatibility note worth remembering: older 24 volt door locks are not compatible with this opener. The 880LMW Smart Control Panel carries a motion detector that turns the lights on when it sees movement.
Time-to-Close is a feature rather than a setting to find later. LiftMaster says the door closes automatically after a user-defined period of 1, 5 or 10 minutes, or a custom time. The integrated 485LM battery backup is there so the door still opens when the power is out.
Warranty, radio and who installs it
The warranty runs in three tiers. LiftMaster gives a lifetime term on the motor, five years on parts, and one year on the battery and accessories. Neither document read here defines which of the bundled items count as accessories rather than parts, so ask a dealer before assuming the battery, light, lock and panel all fall in the one year tier.
On radio, the operating range is around 200 feet, the operating temperature runs from minus 31 to 149 degrees Fahrenheit, and the coding is Security plus 2.0 with what the product guide calls anti-burglary coding. The myQ radio runs on 902 to 928 MHz across 50 channels with two-way communication, and Bluetooth is built into the logic board alongside Wi-Fi.
Two naming quirks close it out. The page's own title calls this model Elite Series while the heading on the same page calls it Premium Series, and LiftMaster's page carousel names the included remote as an L993M where both the product guide and the owner's manual name a 893MAX. The listing's part number field is also truncated, reading 9802. LiftMaster's guide heads the model for purchase and professional install.
