It needs a subscription for each dog, 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi for setup and cellular service, and PetSafe's own boundary rules set post distances from buildings and roads.

A fence collar that also tracks, on a subscription
The Guardian GPS 2.0 is a GPS collar that holds a dog inside boundaries you draw in the My PetSafe app and reports its location in real time. The user guide describes three parts: the app, a charging base and the tracking collar. It says you must choose a subscription plan during setup, and that the boundaries are saved to the collar.
PetSafe's page and the listing both say a subscription is required, with a monthly or annual plan and a one-month free trial. The listing adds that each dog needs its own collar and its own subscription. PetSafe's page says cellular service is required for the subscription GPS fences.
The user guide says boundaries can also be turned off so the collar works as a tracking device only, and that up to 50 boundaries can be saved. PetSafe's page and the listing also give up to 50 custom fences.
What you need before it will work
The user guide lists what you need: a 2.4 GHz wireless router, a high-speed internet connection, a smartphone, scissors, and a non-metallic collar and leash. PetSafe's page says a 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi connection is required for setup and updates, and the guide says the charging base applies firmware updates to the collar while it charges.
PetSafe's page says the system is ideal for properties of half an acre or larger without dense tree coverage. The listing points buyers with smaller yards or dense tree cover to PetSafe's in-ground or wireless fences instead.
Setup time is described two ways on PetSafe's own page: easy setup in 1 to 2 hours in one place, and under an hour in another, without saying which applies.
Boundary planning rules from the user guide
The guide sets minimum distances for the boundary. Digital fence posts must sit at least 25 feet per story from any structure, so 50 feet from a two-story house, and at least 15 feet from roads or other dangerous areas. If the dog is allowed in the house or garage, the boundary must surround it.
Opposing lines of fence posts must be at least 35 feet apart. Where a physical fence already runs along the boundary, the guide says to place the digital posts at least 10 feet outside it.

Fit and daily wear
PetSafe's page says the collar fits dogs with an 8 inch neck circumference and larger, and its comparison table lists 10-pound and up dogs; the listing title says neck 8 to 28 inches and dogs 10 pounds and up. The user guide notes that the collar may be too large for dogs under 10 pounds, and that the dog should be about 6 months or older.
The guide says not to leave the collar on for more than 12 hours a day, to remove it whenever the dog comes inside or leaves the pet area, and never to attach a leash or ID tag to it. It does not recommend the system for dogs with a history of aggressive behaviour.
Corrections are tone, vibration and 10 levels of static, according to PetSafe's page, the listing and the guide. The box includes short and long contact points; we do not summarise fitting or training steps, which are in the guide and the separate training guide.
Battery, charging and a 9V battery field
PetSafe's page and the listing give up to 70 hours per charge, and the user guide adds depending on frequency of use. The collar charges on a magnetic charging base, and the guide says not to remove it while a firmware update is in progress.
The listing's product details say 1 9V battery required and included. PetSafe's page describes the collar as rechargeable, and neither the What's Included list nor the user guide's contents list mentions a 9V battery.
PetSafe's What's Included list names the waterproof rechargeable collar, the charging base, a USB power cable, short and long contact points, a quick start guide and a training guide. The listing's box row matches that list.
Notifications, reliability limits and warranty
If the dog escapes, the guide says the app will notify you and show real-time tracking. It also carries a caution: app notifications depend on cellular connections, may be delayed or not received, and should not be relied on alone.
PetSafe says the collar uses dual-frequency GPS and what it calls AccuGuard technology, combining GPS data with AI-driven motion detection. We report that description as PetSafe's own and make no claim about accuracy beyond it.
The user guide and the listing state a 1-year limited warranty, and PetSafe's page lists a 45-day satisfaction guarantee return window for its own store. We have not read the full warranty terms in the customer care guide.
