TP-Link Deco XE70 Pro Tri-Band Wi-Fi 6E Mesh System, 3-Pack

Which kit this is and what is in the box

The listing's tables give the model number and manufacturer part number as Deco XE70 Pro(3-pack), UPC 810142820974, three items, item weight 3.24 pounds and item dimensions 4.1 by 4.1 by 6.7 inches. TP-Link's page is headed Deco XE70 Pro and subtitled AXE4900 Tri-Band Mesh Wi-Fi 6E System, and the user guide attached to the listing gives the model number as Deco XE70 Pro.

TP-Link's package-content block for the 3-pack lists three Deco XE70 Pro units, one RJ45 Ethernet cable, three power adapters and one Quick Installation Guide. The listing's included-components field says three mesh units, one installation guide, one Ethernet cable and three power adapters, which is the same list.

Each unit is 4.1 x 4.1 x 6.7 in (105 x 105 x 169 mm) on TP-Link's specifications tab, matching the listing's item dimensions. The tab's buttons row lists a reset button only, and the user guide describes a Reset button, a power slot and a status LED that changes colour on each Deco.

One 2.5 Gbps port and two gigabit ports on every unit

TP-Link's hardware block reads one 2.5 Gbps port plus two Gigabit ports per Deco unit, with WAN/LAN auto-sensing, and the overview page and the listing bullet describe the same arrangement. The user guide shows three RJ-45 Ethernet ports on each Deco and names a 2.5 Gigabit Ethernet port for the modem or Ethernet outlet. On a three-unit kit that is nine sockets, three of them at 2.5 Gbps.

TP-Link's footnote says only one port can serve as WAN at a time and that 2.5 Gbps internet speeds require a compatible service plan. If a unit's 2.5 Gbps port carries the internet feed or a wired backhaul run, the other two sockets on that unit are gigabit. The specifications tab has no USB row.

AXE4900 or AXE5400? TP-Link's documents disagree

The listing title says AXE4900 and 4.9 Gbps, TP-Link's overview page gives 4.9 Gbps across six streams under an AXE4900 heading, and the user guide attached to the listing is titled AXE4900 Whole Home Mesh Wi-Fi 6E Router, with an FCC statement naming the AXE4900 Whole Home Mesh Wi-Fi 6E System, model Deco XE70 Pro. TP-Link's specifications tab labels its WiFi Speeds row AXE5400.

That specifications tab gives the band rates as 2162 Mbps on 6 GHz and 1922 Mbps on 5 GHz, both 802.11ax at HE160, and 574 Mbps on 2.4 GHz. Those add up to 4,658 Mbps, which matches neither label. Neither TP-Link web page explains the difference, so ask TP-Link about the labelling if the headline number matters to you.

The specifications tab gives the standards as 802.11ax on 6 GHz, 802.11ax/ac/n/a on 5 GHz and 802.11ax/n/b/g on 2.4 GHz. Its capacity block lists Tri-Band, 2x2 MU-MIMO, OFDMA and 6 Streams, with four high-gain internal antennas, beamforming, and Router and Access Point modes.

Coverage: three figures in three forms

The listing title says 7,200 Sq. Ft Coverage and the listing's coverage field says up to 7,200 square feet, but one of its own bullets says connect from anywhere in your home up to 2,900 sq. ft. TP-Link's overview page says coverage up to 7,200 square feet without naming a pack size.

TP-Link's specifications tab does not use square footage at all. It rates the range as 1-3 bedroom houses for a 1-pack, 3-5 bedroom houses for a 2-pack and 4-7 or more bedroom houses for a 3-pack, which is the rating TP-Link ties to a three-unit kit.

TP-Link footnotes the 200-device claim as based on laboratory test data, and another footnote sets an 802.11k/v/r requirement on client devices. Nothing on the listing explains why its bullet gives 2,900 sq. ft. while its title and coverage field give 7,200.

Security, VPN and what HomeShield charges for

Wi-Fi encryption is listed as WPA-Personal, WPA2-Personal and WPA3-Personal; the listing's security-protocol field reads WPA-PSK, WPA2-PSK and WPA3. Network security covers an SPI firewall, access control and TP-Link's HomeShield set, with a guest network on each of the three bands.

VPN server and client are both listed for OpenVPN, PPTP and L2TP/IPSec, and WireGuard is not listed for this model. TP-Link's test-data block gives Wi-Fi transmission power as under 20 dBm on 2.4 GHz and under 23 dBm on 5 GHz and 6 GHz under CE rules, and under 30 dBm on all three bands under FCC rules.

TP-Link's HomeShield footnote for this model says HomeShield includes basic and advanced features and that advanced features require a paid subscription. TP-Link also says the XE70 Pro is compatible with every other Deco model to form a mesh network.

Listing fields, environment and warranty

Several listing fields do not match TP-Link's per-unit figures. The antenna field says 12 and the port field says 9, while TP-Link gives four antennas and three ports per unit. The Wi-Fi generation field says Wi-Fi 6, while TP-Link's pages, the user guide and the listing title say Wi-Fi 6E, and the operating-system field reads IOS and Android.

Environment limits on the specifications tab are operating temperature 0 to 40 degrees Celsius, storage minus 40 to 60 Celsius, operating humidity 10 to 90 percent and storage humidity 5 to 90 percent, with CE, FCC and RoHS certifications listed.

The listing's warranty field says 2 year manufacturer. The TP-Link documents recorded for this guide give no warranty term, so confirm the period and procedure on TP-Link's support site before relying on the listing field.
