Bambu Lab A1 mini 3D Printer with LED Lamp Kit

Small PLA, PETG and TPU prints on a desk with limited space

A compact open-frame printer with a 180 mm cube build volume, a 300C hotend and an 80C bed, which is what limits it to PLA, PETG, TPU and their supports. It can print entirely offline from its microSD card, but it has no internal memory, and AMS lite for multi-colour is a separate purchase capped at four colours.

A small printer with a small build volume

The A1 mini prints inside 180 by 180 by 180 millimetres, which is the number to check first. It decides which models you can print in one piece and which you will be cutting up and gluing. Check the dimensions of the things you actually want to make before buying.

Amazon's table gives the machine as 15.21 by 16.77 by 17.94 inches and 12.1 pounds. Because the heatbed is the Y axis and slides forward and back, Bambu Lab's FAQ asks you to leave roughly 390 millimetres of clear space in the Y direction so the bed can travel safely.

The frame is open and Bambu Lab says plainly that it does not recommend enclosing the A1 mini. Recommended room conditions are 10 to 30 degrees Celsius with humidity under 85 percent, so a cold garage or a damp basement is outside the maker's own guidance.

The 80-degree bed is the real material limit

Maximum hotend temperature is 300 degrees Celsius, but the maximum heatbed temperature is only 80 degrees. Bambu Lab lists the intended materials as PLA, PETG, TPU and their matching support filaments, and says it is not recommended to print ABS, ASA, PC, PA or PET, which need higher bed and chamber temperatures.

The FAQ is specific about what goes wrong with those materials on this machine: warping, parts detaching from the heatbed, and weakness in the Z direction. If engineering plastics are on your list, this is the wrong printer, and Bambu Lab does not recommend enclosing it as a workaround.

The factory nozzle is 0.4 mm stainless steel. Bambu Lab advises against running carbon-fibre or glass-fibre filled filaments such as PLA-CF, PLA-GF, PETG-CF and PETG-GF through it, and says a hardened steel nozzle is needed for those. Hardened steel nozzles are sold separately.

Multi-colour is a separate purchase that stops at four

This ASIN is the printer plus an LED lamp kit, not an AMS lite bundle. A spool holder is included in the accessories and the user fits it at unboxing, so out of the box this is a single-filament machine feeding from one spool.

If you add AMS lite later, Bambu Lab says the A1 mini supports only one unit, giving a maximum of four colours. A second AMS lite is not an option Bambu Lab describes. Using a full AMS instead requires the separate AMS hub accessory.

Bambu Lab recommends 50 millimetres between the printer and AMS lite, and gives a specific tube routing: the shorter 580 mm PTFE tubes into slots one and two, the longer 700 mm tubes into slots three and four, with slots one and two entering the left of the filament hub and three and four the right. Follow that or you add feeding resistance.

It can run with no internet, but there is a catch

Slicing is done in Bambu Studio, with monitoring through Bambu Studio or the Bambu Handy app, and the listing points at the MakerWorld model library. Bambu Lab's LAN Mode page covers A series printers and describes a LAN Only Mode you turn on from the third settings page and then bind to Bambu Studio with an access code shown on the printer.

In LAN Only Mode, Bambu Lab says you cannot start prints from outside the local network, the Bambu Handy app is not available, and Print History is not available. Separately, the A1 mini FAQ answers the harder question directly: yes, you can use the printer with no internet connection at all by starting prints from the microSD card.

The catch it states in the same answer is that firmware cannot be updated on the device without a Wi-Fi connection. There is also no built-in memory, so a microSD card must be in the machine to start a print. A 32 GB card comes pre-installed and Bambu Lab says cards up to 2TB are supported.

Build plates, calibration and running costs

A textured PEI plate comes in the box and takes PLA, PETG and TPU without glue. A smooth PEI plate is sold separately and suits PLA without glue, but Bambu Lab says PETG and TPU need liquid or solid glue on it. It also states that the smooth PEI plate's sticker is not replaceable, so a damaged one means a new plate.

Auto bed levelling is the default workflow. The printer checks five points first to decide whether to re-level or reuse the previous data, and Bambu Lab recommends leaving it enabled for every job rather than switching it off. The listing describes the rest of the calibration as automatic, and nothing we read asks the owner to level by hand.

Power draw is given as roughly 6 watts idle and an average of 57 watts while printing, higher while heating from cold. Noise in silent mode is about 48 dB. Speed modes on the printer are Silent, Standard, Sport and Ludicrous. Filament runout is caught by a hall sensor, prints resume after a power cut, and the machine can auto-recover from a step loss.

Two model numbers and an undescribed lamp kit

Amazon's item model number field for this listing reads PF002-M-EU. The quick start guide attached to the same listing shows PF002-M on its cover. Those are not the same string, and nothing we read explains the difference, so ask the seller which regional version, power supply and plug you will receive before ordering.

The LED lamp kit in the product name is described only in one sentence: print compatible lamp models and turn them into decorative lights. Neither the listing nor any Bambu Lab document we read states what is in the kit, what voltage it runs at, whether it is mains or battery powered, or which models it fits. Treat it as an unknown extra rather than a reason to choose this bundle.

The quick start's cover also carries a safety notice worth repeating: do not connect the printer to power until assembly is complete. The listing calls setup short, and that notice is the one rule it puts on the cover.
