Bambu Lab A1 mini Combo with AMS lite (PF002-M and SA005)

The Combo is the printer plus one AMS lite

This ASIN pairs the A1 mini with the AMS lite four-spool changer. The quick start attached to the listing shows both part codes on its cover, PF002-M for the printer and SA005 for the AMS lite, so what you are buying is clear. Amazon's item model number field records the pair as PF002-M+SA005-AU.

That trailing AU is worth a question to the seller. The quick start's own cover shows no regional suffix on either code, and nothing we read explains what AU refers to, so confirm which regional version, power supply and plug you will receive before ordering.

Bambu Lab's AMS lite FAQ says an A1 series printer can be connected to only one AMS lite. There is no stacking to eight or sixteen colours here: four spools is the ceiling for this printer, and a second AMS lite is not an option Bambu Lab describes.

What AMS lite will not feed is the important part

Bambu Lab states that AMS lite should not be used to print flexible materials, naming TPU, TPE and absorbent PVA. It draws the TPU line by hardness: 77D, 55D or harder can go through AMS lite, while 95A, 85A, 83A, 80A and anything softer cannot. Check the shore rating printed on the spool you plan to buy before assuming it will feed.

It also says to avoid materials that are too hard or too brittle, listing third-party fibre-reinforced filaments such as PET-CF, PET-GF, PLA-CF, PLA-GF, PA-CF, PA-GF and glow-in-the-dark PLA. The stated risk is breakage inside the feeder channel or damage to the channel itself, and the recommended workaround is external spool placement rather than the changer.

There is one carve-out. Bambu Lab says its own PLA-CF and PETG-CF, which it describes as more durable with relatively smoother surfaces, are compatible with AMS lite. If fibre-filled printing through the changer matters, that narrows you to the maker's own filament.

Spool sizes, placement and tube lengths

AMS lite takes spools 40 to 68 millimetres wide with an inner diameter of 53 to 58 millimetres. Measure any spools you already own against that range before assuming they will fit the changer. Recommended conditions are the same as the printer's: 10 to 30 degrees Celsius and humidity under 85 percent.

Bambu Lab says AMS lite cannot be wall-mounted, and recommends putting the heavier spool in slots two and three and the lighter spool in slots one and four so the unit keeps a lower centre of gravity and does not shake during printing. Keep 50 millimetres between the printer and the unit to limit tube resistance.

Tube lengths differ by bundle and this trips people up. The PTFE tubes supplied in the A1 mini Combo are two at 580 mm and two at 700 mm. A separately bought AMS lite ships with tubes sized for the larger A1 combo, two at 730 mm and two at 850 mm, and Bambu Lab says overly long tubing raises resistance and can trigger false filament-entanglement alarms.

The printer itself: a 180 mm cube with an 80 degree bed

The A1 mini prints inside 180 by 180 by 180 millimetres. Maximum hotend temperature is 300 degrees Celsius but the maximum heatbed temperature is only 80 degrees, and that bed figure is what decides the material list: PLA, PETG, TPU and their matching support filaments.

Bambu Lab says it is not recommended to print ABS, ASA, PC, PA or PET on the A1 mini because they need higher bed and chamber temperatures, and names the failure modes as warping, detaching from the heatbed and weakness in the Z direction. It also says it does not recommend enclosing the printer, so an enclosure is not the maker's answer to that limit.

Amazon's table gives the boxed combo as 16.77 by 14.82 by 19.5 inches and 22 pounds. Because the heatbed is the Y axis, Bambu Lab asks for roughly 390 millimetres of clear space front to back for bed travel, on top of whatever the AMS lite occupies beside the machine.

Calibration, running costs and the microSD requirement

Auto bed levelling is the standard workflow, with the printer checking five points first to decide whether to re-level or reuse its previous data. Bambu Lab's FAQ recommends leaving auto bed levelling on for every job rather than switching it off to save time, and the listing describes the calibration as fully automatic.

Power draw is given as roughly 6 watts idle and an average of 57 watts while printing, higher when heating from cold. Silent mode is quoted at about 48 dB, and the on-printer speed modes are Silent, Standard, Sport and Ludicrous. AMS lite will switch automatically to another spool with the same filament properties when one runs out.

The factory nozzle is 0.4 mm stainless steel, with hardened steel versions sold separately for abrasive filament. There is no internal storage, so a microSD card must be in the machine to start a print at all; a 32 GB card is pre-installed and Bambu Lab says cards up to 2TB are supported.

Cloud, LAN mode and going fully offline

Slicing is done in Bambu Studio, with monitoring and control through Bambu Studio or the Bambu Handy app. LAN Only Mode is documented for A series printers: you enable it on the third settings page and bind the printer in Bambu Studio using an access code shown on its screen.

Bambu Lab lists what LAN Only Mode costs you. You cannot start prints from outside your local network, the Bambu Handy app is not available, and Print History is not available. Those are the trade-offs if you want the printer off the cloud.

The A1 mini FAQ goes further and says you can use the printer with no internet connection at all by starting prints from the microSD card. The stated catch is that firmware cannot be updated on the device without a Wi-Fi connection, so a fully offline machine is a machine frozen on the firmware it shipped with.
