The 600mm/s in the title is travel speed, not print speed
The Amazon title says max 600mm/s high speed printing and a bullet repeats 600mm/s travel speed with 20000mm/s squared acceleration. Flashforge's own parameter table separates the two: printing speed is listed as 10 to 300 mm/s, max travel speed is 600 mm/s, and max acceleration is 20000 mm/s squared.
The maker's own table keeps printing speed and travel speed as separate figures. If you are comparing this machine against another on speed, use the 300 mm/s printing ceiling from that table rather than the travel figure the title leads with.
The manual also gives precision figures that the listing does not: plus or minus 0.2 millimetres accuracy, tested on 100 millimetre cubes, and positioning accuracy of 0.0125 millimetres on X and Y and 0.0025 millimetres on Z. Layer thickness runs from 0.1 to 0.4 millimetres.
Build volume, temperatures and what it is rated to print
Build volume is 220 by 220 by 220 millimetres, a cube, so check tall models before buying. Maximum extruder temperature is 280 degrees Celsius and maximum platform temperature is 110 degrees, both from the maker's own parameter table.
The supported filament line is precise about nozzles. With the default 0.4 mm nozzle, Flashforge marks PLA, PETG and TPU as recommended. PLA-CF and PETG-CF are listed only for the 0.6 mm and 0.8 mm nozzles, which are optional purchases alongside a 0.25 mm. The table does not list ABS, ASA, PC or nylon as supported filament at all.
The manual's Q and A does discuss ABS, but only as a safety answer: it says ABS can release toxic gases during heating, advises printing in a well-ventilated area, and recommends non-toxic materials such as PLA where children are present. It also says filaments from other brands can be used with parameter adjustments.
It is not enclosed, and Flashforge publishes a DIY enclosure
Neither the listing nor the manual's parameter table states that this printer is enclosed. The second document attached to the listing settles it: it is a Flashforge project sheet offering downloadable STEP, STL and 3MF files plus an installation guide and a video for a DIY Adventurer 5M enclosure, along with the open-source frame model for people who want to design their own side plates.
That is genuinely useful if you want to add an enclosure later, but read it with the manual's other rules. The manual says any modification of the equipment by yourself will void the warranty, so ask Flashforge in writing how its own enclosure project interacts with that clause before you print one.
The manual also asks for a dry, well-ventilated place with at least 20 centimetres reserved on the front, back, left and right sides. With a body of 363 by 376 by 413 millimetres excluding the screen and spool holder, that clearance rule is the real footprint number for shelf planning.
Four ways to send a print, including two clouds
Connectivity is listed in the parameter table as USB, Wi-Fi and Ethernet. The simplest route is a USB flash drive: slice, save the file, plug it in and print. The manual notes the printer reads FAT32 drives only, so format the drive that way before you start.
Over the network, FlashPrint 5 can send a sliced job to the printer on the same network, found either by automatic scanning or by typing the printer's IP address. Two optional cloud services are documented: FlashCloud, where you turn on a switch, read a registration code off the printer and pair it with an account, and Polar Cloud, which uses an account and PIN code.
The manual notes Polar Cloud service may not be available outside the United States. Nothing in the manual requires an account for USB or local network printing, so a cloud-free workflow is documented rather than just implied. Slicing is done in FlashPrint 5 or in OrcaSlicer, which Flashforge points users to on GitHub and supplies profiles for.
Build plates, levelling and the glue you will need
The Amazon bullet calls it a dual-sided PEI platform. The manual is more specific and describes the plate that comes with the printer as a powder-coated PEI plate that requires glue, suitable for PLA, PETG, PLA-CF, PETG-CF, ABS and ASA, with TPU needing no glue. A PEI film plate that takes PLA and TPU without glue is a separate purchase, as is a PC sticker plate for PC, ABS and ASA.
The manual also tells you to apply glue to the platform for the very first print. Glue is in the packing list along with the spool holder and screws, the screen, a grease tube, diagonal pliers, three Allen wrenches, a screwdriver and an unclogging pin tool.
Levelling is one-click and automatic. Flashforge says you do not need to level before every print if you stay on PLA, but you should level when switching material types, after replacing the build plate or the nozzle, and whenever adhesion or extrusion goes wrong. A separate vibration compensation routine is for ghosting and ringing, after belt tension changes, or after a long idle period.
Setup, maintenance and the claims only the listing makes
Setup is short but not zero: fit the spool holder with two screws, insert the filament guide tube into the extruder and the filament sensor, plug in and latch the touch screen cable, and unlock the build plate from its shipping position. The printer then runs its first calibration, during which the manual says vibration and noise are normal and you should not move it.
Named maintenance is specific and worth budgeting for. Apply lubricating oil to the guide rails after 200 hours of printing, and replace the filter cotton every 300 hours or when it darkens. Flashforge also recommends dedicating one nozzle per material type, especially for fibre-reinforced filament and PETG, and re-levelling after any nozzle change.
Three headline claims appear only on the Amazon listing and not in the manual we read: a high-flow 32 cubic millimetres per second nozzle, a 35-second warm-up to 200 degrees, and three-second nozzle changes. The listing also names an app called Flash Studio, while the manual names FlashPrint 5, FlashCloud and Polar Cloud. Ask Flashforge which app applies before relying on remote monitoring.
