What the 5761311 is and what ships with it
The 5761311 is Shop-Vac's 12-gallon, 6.0 peak horsepower wet/dry vac with a stainless steel tank, a rear blower port and a tank drain. Its manual identifies it as catalog number 5761311, model SH14-C600, and marks it for household use on the cover.
Shop-Vac's product page lists the accessories as a 7 foot by 1.5 inch diameter Lock-on hose, two 1.5 inch extension wands, a 12 inch wet/dry nozzle, a 1.5 inch crevice tool and a 1.5 inch gulper nozzle. For filtration it lists a cartridge filter, a foam sleeve and a 10-14 gallon disposable filter bag.
The manual's carton list also includes a filter retainer, two side handles with four handle supports and eight screws, four caster feet and casters, two hose holders and a tool holder. It names a flathead screwdriver and safety glasses as the tools required for assembly.
A 1.5 inch hose and tools
The listing title, the listing's tool compatibility field and Shop-Vac's own feature list all give the hose and tools as 1.5 inches in diameter. Shop-Vac's performance tab notes that its airflow and air watt figures were tested with a 1.50 inch diameter Shop-Vac hose.
That matters if you already own accessories of another size. Shop-Vac's definitions tab says the airflow you get depends on the type, size and length of hose, the tool used and the filter, and that a dirty filter reduces suction and airflow.
The manual's carton list names a nozzle and a 5-1/2 inch utility nozzle, while the product page names a 12 inch wet/dry nozzle and a gulper nozzle. The two lists describe the nozzles differently and neither explains why, so check which nozzles are in your box against both lists.
Which filter for which job
The manual says the cartridge filter handles dry pickup and small quantities of liquid. For large quantities of water it recommends swapping the cartridge for the foam sleeve, and it says a cartridge used wet must be cleaned and dried before dry pickup; rinsed cartridges take about 24 hours to dry.
For fine dust and powders such as plaster, drywall dust, cold ashes or concrete dust, the manual says a high efficiency filter bag should be used with the cartridge. The standard disposable bag is for dry pickup only, and the manual says it is not required for normal dry pickup.
The manual also warns never to use the vac for dry pickup without a dry filter, because dust will blow out of the blower port and the motor can be damaged. Its troubleshooting table lists a clogged or saturated filter, an air leak and an obstruction among the causes of poor performance.
Emptying, the float and tipping over
Liquid is emptied through the drain cap, and the manual's emptying section gives the order of steps. For drains above floor level, the manual says to lift the vac by its side carry handles. The drain appears on both Shop-Vac's feature list and the listing.
The automatic shut-off is a float. The manual says you will hear a higher-pitched motor note when it operates, and that failing to switch off at that point will cause extensive motor damage. If the vac tips over it may lose suction, and the manual says to stand it upright.
After wet work, the manual asks you to clean and dry the tank interior, the underside of the lid and the filters before storing or switching to dry pickup. It also says wet pickup accessories should be washed periodically with warm soapy water.
Electrical details and a plug conflict
Shop-Vac's performance tab gives 120 volts, 60 hertz and 11.5 amps, a maximum airflow of 100 CFM, sealed pressure of 67 inches and 240 peak air watts. Its definitions say peak horsepower is a laboratory figure that the motor does not reach in actual use.
The manual describes the vac as double insulated with a polarized plug and a two-conductor cord, and says to use only two-wire outdoor extension cords with two-prong plugs, sized from its wire gauge table. The Amazon listing instead describes a 3-prong grounded plug. Neither source explains the difference, so check the plug on arrival.
Shop-Vac and the listing both give a 20 foot cord. The listing's 22.9 pound weight and its dimensions of 15.46 by 15.46 by 26.2 inches do not appear on Shop-Vac's product page.
Lifetime warranty, with conditions
The product page and the manual call the coverage a limited lifetime warranty, while Shop-Vac's warranty page, for products bought on or after December 1, 2021, describes a full lifetime home use warranty. It applies to the original purchaser only and is not transferable.
The warranty page excludes accessories and filters, any product used for commercial purposes or tampered with, defects caused by non-genuine Shop-Vac filters or accessories, misuse and normal wear, and products bought or used outside the United States or Canada. Proof of purchase date is required for a claim.
Shop-Vac's remedy is to replace defective parts or the whole vac at its discretion. Claims go to Shop-Vac customer service by email, and the manual points to shopvac.com/warranty and asks you to register the product. The manual also says the motor has lifetime lubricated bearings.
